Wow, all these negative no-hows ! This is an excellent knot that just takes a little time to master. It is the smoothest there is for casting, much smaller than the double uni, GT or cats paw and more secure than the FG. You cannot tie it faster without a bobbin as some dropkick commented. Amazing how people are quick to condemn something they have never tried (or not able to master). For those of us that use this knot and can tie it quickly, I guess we'll continue to enjoy the benefits of the PR and the rest won't !
You're 100% correct. These comments are silly about how a uni to uni is somehow the ultimate line to line connection. It's fine for some applications but it's useless for others. Nobody is tying this knot faster or even close to as well without the bobbin. There are less expensive bobbins than this one but it's necessary. I use it to end splices with hollow core and it's incredible. Basically just tying this knot over the splice to ensure the line doesn't ride up but it's so thin even serving can't do it better.
This is a very fine tool, I enjoy very much the excellent knot, thin and strong, it's not for free but definitely worth the money. Thanks for the video
That was a good informative video on using the bobbin mate. Amazed at all the negative comments though... if it's too expensive to buy Shimano then look on ebay/Amazon. Dozens of off brands for less. If you can tie an FG knot faster than this video then why the f#$k are you trolling youtube for easier methods? And this isn't the FG knot btw.
When you've lost half a dozen bluefin tuna because any and all knots you tie just ends up slipping, then you start looking for real strong knots. You don't need this if you are going to platter fish...
I always use PR knot for my braided / fluorocarbon line combination and the best way to do this is using a bobbin. It will be cumbersome at first but you will get used to it. Very thin, streamlined, and strong knot.
I'm a woman, I can tie the uni splice in a minute or less. Tie it, Lick the line, easy lubricant, pull, you are done. I could of bring in a 30lbs yellow tail by the time he's done with the video.
The PR knot gets close to 100% line strength. A uni to uni join loses about 50% of the lines strength. There is no comparision. A uni to uni is a reliable connection, but not the best for strength or for casting profile. A well tied PR knot should be tied the night before. Uni to uni or 4 turn surgeons good for when the fish are biting.
I'm not going to dislike this vid because I think it was well put together . But there are easier faster knots that woks just as well and I just cant see the use for a bobbin winder, unless you are retired and got nothing better to do with your time than to take 10 minutes to tie a knot
These guys are jigging with long leaders and the connection is going through the guides endlessly. A uni to uni is not the correct knot for this application, it's too bulky and will weaken throughout the fight. They use $50+ jigs so it's not just losing a fish to the knot. Either an FG, a PR, or many now use hollow core to eliminate the knot entirely. The uni to uni is a fine knot for some applications but this definitely isn't one of them.
Uni slip knot to tie leader to hook/swivel/lure/jig, double uni to tie leader to braid. Alberto knot to tie thick leader to thin braid. There, that's what will do the job for most fishermen. Unless if you catching pei tuna Marlin ofc

i love shimano products but hands down i can tie this same knot twice as fast by hand
there's nothing wrong with this video, when I first started fishing, it took me 30min to an hour to tie a knot. it's good for a beginner.
