Gone West: EAA's Tribute to Joe Engle

🚀 Retired NASA astronaut and test pilot, Joe Engle, made enormous contributions to the world of aerospace. He was the last surviving X-15 pilot, and a dear friend and supporter of EAA. 💙
Engle passed away earlier this week at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife Jeanie, who had a nearly 40-year career at #NASA as well.

Joe leaves a legacy like no other pilot. What he accomplished in his career can never be overstated. It was his wish that people would give their support to the EAA museum in his name as part of that legacy, and I hope that many people will do so. For myself, I will always cherish the time I was able to spend with him when we did talks and panels together, and I am very grateful that he wrote the foreword for my book on the X-15. Thank you Joe. Always fly high!

Amazing man, he gave a huge contribution to aviation! Being bumped from LM pilot on Apollo 17 missing out on walking on the moon must have been the hardest pill to swallow but he never stopped contributing. Blue skies and tailwinds.
