I’m the bleary-eyed fellow yakking with Jay. Thanks to everyone for watching. This was an incredible experience. I wish we could have delved into some of the more technical aspects of the bike, but I’m so happy the feel of it translated. It truly is a remarkable machine. Thank you as well to Jay and his amazing team. Exploring the garage never fails to take away my breath.
I was so impressed with this engine when it first came out and always felt it never achieved the success it deserved, it's great to see Triumph is still working on it and now it seems more tempting than ever. Have you guys ever considered using this engine in a go cart or mini car, I thought it had potential to create it's own class perhaps track only. If I had some extra money burning a hole in my pocket I'd by the bike Jay rode.

Jay is a great host, never shows if he’s doubtful of a new project car, or dislikes a guest. But he can not hide it when he really likes something that shows up at his shop.
He was pretty annoyed when that electric million dollar fisker remodeling showed up. He was having none of anything that salesman told him :D But in general I have to agree, if the vehicle is great or the guest is enthusiastic, Jay will be, too.

This kid Lance is awesome. Throws out the Trident manufacturing run off the top of his head, and drops an Uncle Miltie joke! Cool bike, great production as usual. Thank you Mr. Leno and we wish you a speedy recovery.
Every time I watch a Leno's Garage episode, I'm reminded of my dad, who got me into motorcycles and absolutely loved watching Jay's channel as well as the tonight show. He was a car guy too and passed away with 13 project cars, after just completing his dream garage. His garage had a bathroom, air conditioning, about as much shelving for parts as an Autozone warehouse, and four brand new hydraulic lifts. Sad to see he really didn't get to work on the cars in his new dream garage, but he told me before that for him the fun was in the project itself, not the completion of it, so because of that I've got to think he really enjoyed himself building that garage that took years. Sometimes the anticipation is better than the final result. I kept his American Graffiti '32 Ford Coupe to finish myself because it was the star of his garage and his favorite I think. I will take it to cruises in tribute to my dad.
I'm almost seventy years young and in recovery from a serious accident. Watching you riding that bike does my heart good and the GT version will be my next purchase when I'm passed A1 fit to ride. Many thanks for the video.
His sound guy really knows his stuff! Even though he's riding at speed, even though you can hear the wind, his voice is totally clear...best video with instant commentary I can remember.
Checks all the box’s for an experienced (older like Jay) rider: torque puts a smile on his face, comfortable riding position not painful, safe handling and stopping gets you there And back, vintage heritage but modern engineering, Most importantly, especially these days, the joy of riding - Fun!
You're right. I'm 50yrs old soon enough, never rode until a few years back, got a 2021 R1 and still had those chicken strips that always bothered me, so I sold it on, got a Rocket 3 R instead, and surely enough, that's a motorcycle I'll never sell! Just like my 2001 Speed Triple, something about Triumph bikes that just makes my bits tingle in the right places! Also, black motorcycles is the only real motorcycles!
When I was a kid growing up on Air Force bases, I used to see a lot of Triumph Bonnevilles because the young airmen bought them. I always liked the look !!!
2.5 liters! Geeeeez! I had a '77 Yamaha 750 3 cylinder. I loved that bike. I really loved the sound it made. My wife and I toured many miles on that bike. After 30 years it was worn. I found a '78 Goldwing with low miles. It does the job. I think of it as heavy and docile. That Triumph at 643 pounds is a relative lightweight, unlike my Goldwing. Nice job, Triumph. Enjoy, Jay!
That number is DRY, and probably the R, not the GT. Dry doesn't make sense anyway. These are more like 700 lbs. WET. Still way lighter than Harley/Indian baggers..
One of the best reviews on you tube for any bike. All other reviewers take note. This is how it’s done. Great bike. A motor cycle enthusiast testing and riding it. A proud company man answering Jays questions without over the top technical information.
I bought one of the limited edition TFC versions. I had one of the older Rocket 3's previously (plus a T120 and a couple of Harleys) and just love this bike more than anything. It handles so much better than the previous version and, as Jay says, it stops really well when you consider its weight. The weight is low down so its dead easy to balance. I love mine. Its number 448 out of only 750 made and the TFC edition is slightly different from both the ones on Jay's show. The finishes are amazing. It has so much torque that 1st and 2nd are almost unnecessary. It is an incredible piece of engineering. Like Jay I am also getting a bit old for Café Racer positions. This is ideal for me. I love it. It's like taking a big, happy puppy out for a walk (well maybe a bit more challenging than that).
After riding Harley's and Victory's for many years I bought a T120 and wow! Nice, nice bike. So I bought a Thunderbird 1700 and double wow!! Triumphs are now my favorite.
Jay Leno is my idol, I love classic cars and don't have the money to afford one, this man has 100s and has worked for every single one of them, as hard as it is and as long as it may take I hope to follow in his footsteps one day , although I'll never meet him, he'll always be my hero
I own the T120 Bobber and a 10 yr old Thunderbird 1600. Rock solid bikes. My dealer complained that the bikes are too well built. They can't make any money on repairs and riders don't even bring em back for service very often.

Mr LE Jones is an excellent ambassador for Triumph and does a super good job highlighting the bike. He’s a keeper. Triumph, please take god care of him. Loving my T120. Now thinking about adding a Rocket.
L.E. Jones I watched your vid and am deeply saddened. I think your idea of the nonprofit and going in a direction more closely aligned with your heart is wonderful. I an a social worker, trained and imbued with many of the values you expressed. I had a similar moment as yours when the Rodney King incident occurred in LA. I left my social work career and joined a police department hoping to see if i could apply my views of social justice to policing. 16 years. It made a difference. You will too. Contact me if you want to continue a little dialogue. I stand with you.
Can't fool me, that's a car motor. They finally refined the looks to match the performance. What a great looking bike with a motor you know will effortlessly take you anywhere. Thank god they offer mid controls and not just forward mounted fat dumb and stupid controls. I own a Triumph; they are a well-designed reliable bike that gives you a great feeling of pride when riding it.
The thing is love about this bike is really just the amount of practical power an engine with this displacement provides for real every day riding. Most powerful bikes need to be made to scream to really get that power. This big of an engine has a deep amount of power to be called on at any time in any gear at any rpm. This is coming from someone who rides a 600 sport bike. It’s exciting and I love it, but if I had the financial resources this is what I’d throw my leg over. I love making a beautiful bike scream but my bike doesn’t have the range that a bike like this has
6 minutes into this video and Jay arrives at His garage. I liked this intro and I think Jay would do well to change the format of His show from time to time. I am glad to see Jay continuing on even at His age. As for the motorcycle I liked the older Triumph triple cylinder engines. I know this will not disappoint and I may go check em out.
It depends, sometimes you need a lot of backstory to get why something is interesting. With the ROCKET 3 it's not that hard. That Engine is 2/3 of the motorcycle :)) Seeing it go already tells most of the story. Lean sensitive ABS et all are really good to have but they wouldnt come accross on video
A guy that I frequently ride with that owns a Rocket 3 once told me the main difference between a Rocket 3 and a something like a Harley is that you could put cruise control on, take your hands off the bars, and ride your motorcycle at 100mph down the highway no problem on the Triumph whereas a Harley you'd lose control of the bike at 100mph the second you took one hand off the bars. I couldn't agree more.
The earlier models were a really special bike, not for everyone, but for the right person they're magical. Good handling, power like you've never felt, great brakes..This redesign is a little mixed to me, but being a triumph tech for years i really grew to love all their bikes. They really do put all they make back into the lines and it shows. Go for it, ride the Rocket and be amazed.
@@Oldbmwr100rs Thanks for the info, but are the differences between the older R3's and these new ones that you mean? I'm an old Triumph to Harley back to Triumph guys.
Thanks so much for making these videos, Jay. Sincerely. I’ve binged watched most of them during the current situation, and it’s so much fun to live vicariously through another gearhead. Stay healthy!
I test rode the R at the Hua Hin test drive. Wow! Butter smooooth. What Torque monster. At 6' tall I prefer the confort of the GT model much better. The price is a bit high, but I'm definitely considering buying. We only live once. Might as well live the dream.
The Triumph representative, Lance, seems to be a really good people person and he did a good job explaining the bike. He's a little on the short side but that's nit picking.
@@Marauder252 That's how I felt at first until I started hearing him talk about the bike and Triumph company history. The guy knows his stuff and I think he's rightfully in his position not with the intent of attracting a younger crowd. He's just super knowledgeable.
@@somegreatbloke You make a good point but age is somewhat subjective. The guy could be in his 40s and looks really young. I'm 37 and people mistake me for being in my 20s all the time. Is 40 even considered old these days? I mean, even the "old white dude" that people would expect to be Triumph's PR guy had to start at some decent age right? Either way, at the price point of this bike you're not going to find twenty-somethings flocking to Triumph to get one just because of this somewhat seemingly young PR guy. I think Triumph is too smart to pull what Harley did. They know better than to piss off the purists.
What fun. You can clearly see how much Jay loves this bike. Its checks all the boxes and adds some new ones..I'm about the same height as Jay..5'10" , I immediately relate with the balance and power..I've been looking at Honda and Harley but I haven't seen anything that has gotten me more emotional than Watching Jay's youthful smile that this provoked. I want that feeling. I'll wait a year to here reliability reviews but i'm getting this new in 2021.. The ABS is a true lifesaver on a bike. I want to go back in time...safely.
@@r.awilliams9815 Low compression, mild cams, EFI..The folks at Mr Turbo say this bike was made for turbocharging. And their kit fits right under the seat where the exhaust header meets the muffler and the airbox fits, pull all that out and their's plenty of room for another nearly 100 HP and 100 foot pounds of torque.
Another great bike review from Jay. You really cannot beat these new Triumphs, I've had my current one for over five years and after 30+ years of riding bikes, this one is by far the most reliable I've ever owned. John Bloor deserves a Knighthood! I owe a massive debt of gratitude to both him and my dad who gave me his love and passion for motorbikes in the first place. Cheers for another great video.
Rocket 3 gt was the first bike I've ridden in 8 yrs (besides majesty 400)...holy crap that thing is a torque monster. Pulls from 3k rpm want to your pull arms off.
Jay: Thank you for showcasing the Triumph Rocket 3! Please ride the GT version too. I was all set to purchase the R version, but a test ride on both had me falling in love with the GT. The foot pegs on the GT have four levels of adjustability, so you can have the pegs feet-forward, or in the same position as the R version. Plus the seat on the GT is more comfortable versus the R version.
I already had two bikes (a 14’ Street Triple and 10’ Aprilia RSV 1000 R) but wanted a brand new cruiser bike that I didn’t have to wrench all the time either and I test rode the GT version and LOVED it. The torque is really indescribable. But at the last minute I decided on a 2018 KTM Super Duke that was in the same dealership. Lol. It’s bonkers torque too. But I know I’ll eventually get a Rocket 3. So comfy too. Ride safe!
The pegs on the GT have only 3 levels of adjustability, not 4. And no one has the same position than the R, it's just to adapt to different rider leg lengths. However, you can get the R pegs installed on the GT as an option.
Daver G Old reliable those Vulcans. For me I just dig motorcycles. I love destroying off the line but I also love catching up and overtaking with crazy top end like my old K7 Gixer 1000. Actually the Super Duke does both. Lol. I dunno. Just as long as the brakes are good, I guess?
Test rode GT early October, it's amazing power handling parking lot maneuvering is a breeze. And comfort. @200 lbs. Lighter than my HD. Road king. My soul has been sold. This machine will find its way into my barn.
Had the chance to ride a few different current Triumphs....love that sound the triple makes, and love the torque. Jay is adding one more to his collection from the look of things!
Triumph makes the greatest modern motorcycles. From the 675R to the 1080, and the absolutely amazing Rocket 3. Being a rider of all three and a veteran of 25 years of as many different bikes as I could get my hands on. Triumph is simply the bikes to ride.
160HP😲 I thought my 2007 Model was powerful enough. The torgue is enough to bring about a organism. I went Fatty rear (car tire) for one go-round. Still peeled the rubber down by 15k. It was a extreme joy to ride. Passed it on to my son.
That was a great review. The bike rep knew his bikes and was a good rep to send to show these bikes. He knew what he was talking about. Also, Jay also had some great imput. I especially like what he said about the Furgeson tractor engine. It was true too. I had a 1953 Furgeson tractor and it did favor the old three cyl bike.
Just watched the episode of the Triumph Rocket. I love that bike! I've never ride one. But I gotta tell you that I have a bike that I just love like crazy. Back in 2017 I saved up in one year's time to purchase a brand new Indian Vintage painted Willow Green/Ivory Cream. Beautiful bike that's modern technology but classic looks. Buuuut when I pulled up to the dealership to see if my bike was in, I saw a bike sitting outside against the windows on display in the back row that made me stop in my tracks! So Dave the salesman saw me outside and came out and said, Hey Tony we have your bike inside. Just came in!" I replied back with a ho hum answer back like "Hmm...thanks....but what the heck is this!?!" He said, Oh... that's called a Rune"! I said, "What's a Rune"?! He told me they're rare and that you just never see em on the road. Well now that I've blabbed on long enough here, I didn't get the Indian Vintage. I ended up buying the Rune! I love it! I ride it often and get double takes EVERYWHERE I go! Phones come out to take pictures. When I am putting gas in it people walk over and ask what it is and say how beautiful of a bike it is. Mine is the Maroon color and is the Chromed Wheel version. Most of them had polished wheels. They Chromed just a handful of the bikes wheels. My understanding is that Tom Hanks has or had one. But I've only seen it a couple times on the road of other people riding one. But luckily I get to see one every day. Anyway there's my story. Hope you like it.
I hope you got one in black with the heated grips Jay Your love for vehicles and engineering are contagious as you just give off and show real joy Keep up the the great vids #StaySafe 🦠😷
My roommate back in the mid 80's had a 250 Honda Rebel. I took it for a ride once and made the mistake of getting on the freeway. 75 MPH was the end of the world on that bike, and all the traffic around me was going 75 and over. There was no way to power _out_ of trouble. The tires were so thin that it kept sticking in the rain grooves and had to be shoved just to change lanes. It was NOT a fun bike to ride. I'll stick to my V-Max.
I am a fan of all the videos, of this channel, but without a doubt this is one of my favorites, not only because of my love for motorcycles, but also because of the family and friends of the whole explanation, what an incredible motorcycle.
I seriously need this bike in my life. 57 year old fighting cancer.....if I get a miracle I'm celebrating and try to buy one if not I hope there's a Triumph Dealership in Heaven....
Jay speaks from the heart that i love. Fun to watch the reaction from the triumph guy... I need to see one of those bikes in person. Thanks jay i agree Black😎
Picking up my GT next week. Can't wait. Utterly awesome. The extraordinary bike for the slightly unhinged discerning gentleman. It shouldn't exist but it does. Mental!
The guy looked so uncomfortable when Jay started talking about other brands, Jay probably wants to have a real convo and the guy was there as a salesman.
It's Jay's show , he's rich, and he was a stand up comic and talk show host for years....I imagine it's difficult for him to take a back seat in any conversation.
I've been a "sport bike" guy, since the 70's, before sport bikes even existed. But, I really like this bike. I think Triumph really nailed it here. The Rocket 3 has went from being a decent, but not impressive bike, to now being one of the most desirable bikes on the road. Well done!
I want one Jay!!!!! Black also. Thanks for the review. Your are the first rider that didn't burst out laughing when you hit the throttle the first time. Great job!
I am 72 years old. I got my first bike 50 years ago. I bought a Bonneville 650 Triumph as parts in a box and put it together in my dorm room. I love that 1960s bike; kick start and all!🛵
They're great quality bikes but quite buzzy and boring. The engine is very soulless and truck like in power delivery. I couldn't handle the old K75 or K100 after a lifetime of sportbikes.

I don't own a triumph yet, but they really have stepped their game up last few years the attention to detail and fit and finish is top quality
Even at his age? Just how old do you think Jay is?
Do you wear your hat backwards, Ricky? Use a backpack, do ya?
It depends, sometimes you need a lot of backstory to get why something is interesting. With the ROCKET 3 it's not that hard.
That Engine is 2/3 of the motorcycle :))
Seeing it go already tells most of the story. Lean sensitive ABS et all are really good to have but they wouldnt come accross on video
@@dbx1233 70 next month...lol
Yeah, kinda like the unvarnished take for a review.
The old Rocket or the new one? I tried that on the new one to great success.
Why do I have feeling Jay is getting a black R with heated grips? LOL
C Johnson He took delivery not too long ago!
gym shoe Just hold on tight and trust the brakes!
I knew he'd get one
I was thinking the same thing...
L.E. Jones He probably got one in exchange of the video. Great publicity for Triunph.
Man I love Jay sense of humor especially during these tough times
Maybe all his money is invested in cars and bikes. Not the stock market.
Friend in high school had a B.S.A. rocket three in the 70,s. I lusted over it.. Was huge for the day.
I've been seriously considering a Rocket lll. I'm so happy to see Jay do this bike at this time. I'm sold.
Lucy you Sid. Incredible looking ride.
I'm so happy for you. I'd love one. Friend of mine's taken one out and said hes in love.
@@sidcostello7532 I think the new one is a complete redesign.
So depressing lately, watching Leno talk about bikes and cars brings a smile to my face without fail.
I really like these Triumph motorcycles, new and old,..the edge to the newer Triumph's.
Amen. I'm 6'6 and the GT definitely fit better, but being able to lower the pegs on the R helpes too.
It's obvious Jay is going to buy one of these, age has its benefits, what a great host and guy he is.
The Triumph representative, Lance, seems to be a really good people person and he did a good job explaining the bike. He's a little on the short side but that's nit picking.
a hair under 7 feet... yup, he's a midget
Yeah he was ok. But I was expecting to see some older white dude. You can tell they are trying to go for a younger demographic
@@Marauder252 That's how I felt at first until I started hearing him talk about the bike and Triumph company history. The guy knows his stuff and I think he's rightfully in his position not with the intent of attracting a younger crowd. He's just super knowledgeable.
@@xfiringsquadx He just did his homework... But also the face of the Triumph PR department.
I think these engines would be perfect for a trike or a superlight sportcar.
I'm a bike guy and I do appreciate what Triumph has accomplished here.
Imagine it tuned up in a gutted yaris lmfao.
Tricky Ricardo lmao
@@Rozzado Gutted yaris, could make a funny sleeper... But I was more thinking about something like a Lotus seven.
Yep. Put a forced-induction system on it for even more Big Fun.
Jay’s putting in an order.
"Order," he'll get it for free.
The R looks better overall.
This is false information...
Beautiful bike, 10/10 from me
This is the only brand where the stock sound is really good!
Not a person who would ever buy a motorcycle but if I would, this would be it!
This would be a very questionable choice for a first motorcycle.
160HP😲 I thought my 2007 Model was powerful enough. The torgue is enough to bring about a organism. I went Fatty rear (car tire) for one go-round. Still peeled the rubber down by 15k. It was a extreme joy to ride. Passed it on to my son.
Jay is a national treasure
12:46 I like how jay understood the riding habits of daily riders.

Jay clearly loves the bike, he can't stop playing with it.
i am so happy Jay is doing what he loves.

“Fun bike to ride”. I don’t think I have ever rode a motorcycle and said, wow that wasn’t fun!
Good one buddy!!!🤣🤣🏍🏍🏍🦅🍺🍺
No doubt
My roommate back in the mid 80's had a 250 Honda Rebel. I took it for a ride once and made the mistake of getting on the freeway. 75 MPH was the end of the world on that bike, and all the traffic around me was going 75 and over. There was no way to power _out_ of trouble. The tires were so thin that it kept sticking in the rain grooves and had to be shoved just to change lanes. It was NOT a fun bike to ride. I'll stick to my V-Max.
