Your videos are short and to the point, without going on about say why upwind is important. As someone said long ago (u probably know who) better less but better! Thanks for the great video.
Labas, Rytis! Ačiū, geras vido! Please tell about when you are - all the time strong (like flat) for any wind conditions or sometimes release it, when wind is light?
I have a question. I teach windsurfing in Belgium at the Windsurfing Federation. From 2021 I will not only teach slalom but also foiling. May I use your video's for these teaching purposes since I think you explain everything very carefully with great shots and detailed movement explanations?
Great tutorial, as usual. What about more outhaul to help going upwind? Can that help? BTW, that blanket behind you reminded me of the one my grandma made for me many years ago!
Yes, that can help. If you are well powered on a halfwind reach - most likely you will want to pull on your outhaul when going upwind. However, if I am lacking power to go upwind I will obviously release the outhaul. Hahaha - yes, this one was made by my Great grandmother.
What might be cool (but not sure it’s feasible) would be to show beginner/advanced riders typical foiling mistakes, and help them correct these (like before/after). To always see perfect execution is good, but many will only be able to correct something when they see their own mistakes first.
I see the benefit of it, but I guess it would have to be a separate video series for that. Also at the moment it is a bit hard to find some volunteers to sail with me in sub 10° celsius
That’s the skill I would like to learn the most. In our area the wind is usually light. I try pumping, but I cannot get speed enough to fly. I am doing something wrong, or my msterial is not adequate.
Hi Rys, Amazing video, once again. If you have the time, Which wing size and span are best for course racing? And for a solid upwind? Is 750 enough? Also, fuselage wise, what do you recommend? Thanks?
If you can close the gap or not will depend a lot on the shape of your sail - so it should not be the focus. But as you lean forward slightly the sail should naturally rake back.
He did not tell all secrets. 😄 There is a secret: When you go, you need to open the sail a little twisting the body in the direction of the movement and as if to give up-forward to the wind, and then re-close, that is, all the time trying to bring it forward-up to the wind a little under-closed, this is the most ideal position for going upwind. In this way, the sail has the minimum drag and the maximum thrust forward, that is, the sail begins to pull you forward and up into the wind. And we control the speed, we slow down a little, sail a learn little back, thereby increasing the apparent wind, if you still slow down, then you need to bear away, there is a whole art and thousand hours of practice are always needed in a pair with someone.
It is difficult to explain by words, better one time to see... So: you twist front body against wind and at the same moment extend back hand and sail little open, and at the same time you trying to "learn" sail forward-up into the wind (same direction of movement like in water start), but of course this movement not radical, and maybe even will be not visible if you look from the side... what is happen: you must notice, like sail pulls you directly into the wind...
Just tried your tips Rytis, big change thanks for putting this video! You are mentioning the super 7 position. However, I've noticed that when I'm leaning FW taking the sail back, I have less pressure (down) on my back leg, so I need to bend it down to put more pressure and this makes my stance quite uncomfortable. Alsp I've noticed I'm kind of twisting my back to look upwind and have my front shoulder face upwind. So I can't really do the super 7.. any ideas why?
Hey, I just saw your video on your own foiling. I used to foil with my 135 slalom board and I had the same problem. Now I use the IQ Foil board where your back foot is placed more outwards in comparison to the slalomboard I used to use. This helped me a lot in finding a natural/comfortable stance and thereby do the super 7. So I think it's mainly the board you use for foiling because your technique lookes quite neat. Hope I helped a bit with this info!
Oh boy, those girls on the beach upwind are in trouble now!
Hahaha - awesome!
Your videos are short and to the point, without going on about say why upwind is important. As someone said long ago (u probably know who) better less but better! Thanks for the great video.
Thanks for that!
Awesome... so far the best in depth vid on going up wind with the foil!
Thanks a lot for following my comment, amazing tips and great shots!!!!
Thanks ☺️ - share to friends 😉
Much appreciate. Old windsurfer, newbie foiler. Congrats on your Elimination Final win @ Tiberius. Good luck in Croatia!
I can't wait to try this tips on my next foil session. Super tips and really well explained.
Thank you very much, great advice ... now let's go straight to that beach;)
Hahah - great idea!
Thanks for your excellent tips, i will figure it out😉🙋🤙
Great tops !!! Thanks 😄
Thanks very much
Great video! Thank you!!!
Do you have any tips for the same foiling on freeride foil?
Labas, Rytis! Ačiū, geras vido! Please tell about when you are - all the time strong (like flat) for any wind conditions or sometimes release it, when wind is light?
Thanks
maybe you can make a video about how to pump when you are flying on the foil.
Yes, that is a hard skill for sure - do you think there is a lot of people who would want to physically suffer so much haha? I can tell it is not easy
I think there are a lot of people trying that. also i can't find any video about this.
Nailed it! Too bad there is corona going on. Would have loved to have done some neat droneshots.

Sure Sander, it would be an honour!

interesting video, now show how to safely slide down in strong wind

Which wing size and span are best for course racing? And for a solid upwind?
Is 750 enough?
Also, fuselage wise, what do you recommend?
Thanks?
For course racing I would say you need at least 900cm2 wing with a 110+ fuselage as the minimum
Thanks Rytis!
Do you recommend raking the sail back to close the gap like in normal windsurfing?
If you can close the gap or not will depend a lot on the shape of your sail - so it should not be the focus.
But as you lean forward slightly the sail should naturally rake back.
Thanks ! Btw, where is this awesome lake?
Kaunas, Lithuania
Rytis, did I see it right that you don't have back straps on the board at all ??
Yes, that is correct.
It is due to the center of power from my foil, which is very far forward.

hahaha your legs and your aaa...."glute" muscles 😂
for me more problems to go down wind
I like Rytis vlogs! Unsubscribed from Niko Prien...😄. Rytis will understand 😉
