    Thanks again for another great video. I was also struggling to go upwind especially when not on the foil. May I add that one piece of advice that I was given and that helped me a lot? Basically the same thing Gwen is saying, just another way to look at it and maybe see things a little more clear:
    It makes a huge difference on wich side of your body you hold your wing, be it shifted further towards the nose of the board or further towards the back. Looking from above, holding the wing rather shifted towards the nose of the board, the wind blowing into the wing is going to pivot the boards nose downwind, so you'll want to make sure to always hold the wing shifted more towards the back of the board. That's what should happen automatically when following Gwen's adivce to "twist your body and look into the wind"

    The Duotone Wing Academy advises to keep the board flat when you go offwind and try to get on the foil. That’s what I tried and mostly failed. Your advice is to keep the weight centered but with more weight on the heels and the board skipped slightly to the luv rail to get it going upwind. That helped me a lot to get the needed stability on the first flights. Thanks a lot! I really appreciate your videos!.

    I just spent several hours in very light wind learning how the wing works relative to the board. Coming from a windsurfing background, I knew to move the back of boom up and down to tack and gybe. Problem is that because a wing does not connect to the board there are a third and fourth movement of the wing. I found two important axis to move wing, vertical (sail power control) and horizontal (board angle control). To adjust the lift and power of the wing is up and down. To move wing up (overhead) bring back hand down relative to the front hand and to bring it down from above, for more power, move back hand higher. To direct the board to point to weather, hold sail back (toward tail of board) which will load up the back of the board and push the nose into the wind, to go more downwind hold sail toward the front. I like your analogy to snowboarding for foiling. Cheers!

    Damien and Gwen, I freakin love your videos guys! Really appreciate all the help! Keep rockin'! Any chance you could put one out one on how to increase speed while not on foil? I was in significant wind (15-20kts) and couldn't figure out how to increase my speed. I was pumping like crazy but I felt like I wasn't efficient with my wing and board position. Beam Reach? One side I felt faster than the other. Why the heck was that?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  2 роки тому

      Rob, Thank you! Well honestly you will only go so fast and it will never be that fast unless you have lots of wind way more than 15-20 knots, if you just having the board on the surface not on foil. A board with out the foil will have too much drag "surface tension". That is why the foil is key! What I might recommend is moving your foil forward as it might help you pop up on foil. You may have you foil mounted to far back and it will never let you up? My thoughts.. Or maybe a larger foil wing if it is a smaller foil. Keep at it you will get it friend....

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 роки тому +1

      Amir, That sounds like a lull in the wind immediately start to pump the wing and try to glide though the lull on foil so you don't have to come off foil. Those are just lols in the wind that come and go... Thats why you always try to keep that speed up.... Hard to control Mother Nature friend... :)

    Thank you for the video! I love them all!! I want to ask what tip would you give me to get up on the foil going up wind? I have no problem with getting up on the foil and going downwind and really love it! But I struggle with getting up on the foil when I go the other direction. I simply don't feel any power in my wing and I can't get it lifted! I have been struggling with it for 1 month already, it's like 2 different people foiling, one way 100%, the other way 0 :((((
    I can only get upwind on my board flat as if it was just a sup. Can you make any tutorial about your strong and weak side plsss?? Cheers from Bali!

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 роки тому +2

      Everyone always has one way that is a struggle to go up wind! I did for sure! I am for sure thinking you are angled too far downwind on your bad direction with your board reason why there is no power in your wing. I need you to push hard on your back foot and turn the board more sideways, to the wind so you create power in your wing. Hold that and you will be able to have power and better go up wind in your bad direction. Hope that helps!

  • @AngusMcIntyre
    @AngusMcIntyre 3 роки тому

    Went winging yesterday morning in tricky wind conditions. Really struggled to stay upwind. Combination of inconsistent foiling and zero-successful foiling transitions. I then switched to wind-foiling where almost every gybe I do is fully foiling. I made hundreds of metres upwind in minutes.
    Conclusion? Staying upwind on the foil is easy, but you need to be on the foil. That will come in time. Don't fret about it.

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 роки тому

      Well friend that is a tough question! For sure you will go better into the wind than a twin tip for sure. I believe the biggest problem is not the foil into the wind! Honestly the wings are very non efficient.... They will keep your angle down the least unless the industry, starts making some high end racing wings! I am sure we will see them coming soon! :)
