    This was awesome! Can you do a video on the basics of making a DIY tank? E.g. what kind of glass, silicone, substrate, filters/pumps, and the other basics of making a tank water tight and suitable for fish? Thanks!!

    • @AquariumInfo
      @AquariumInfo  3 роки тому +3

      For sure! I think making a tank should be more common as it’s not as difficult as it looks (at least for smaller tanks 😅). If you check out the desktop tank I use silicone and glass to construct that. You can build whatever your imagination can think up. I will say that doing the measurements ahead of time and having someone else cut the glass for you is the best route. Cutting your own glass by hand is very difficult and takes a lot of time and patience. Most hardware/glass shops will do it for free if you have the dimensions!
      I will try to link all the materials for these tanks soon. Thanks for the comment Simon! 😊

    I’m thinking of setting up a tank like this once I’ve finished setting up my 275 litre tank.
    Could I ask; how many litres is your bamboo betta tank? Also, what model heater did you use? I saw in a comment you said it’s aqueon but I would like something uninvasive and was curious which one you used.

    • @AquariumInfo
      @AquariumInfo  3 роки тому +2

      Great question it is 24x24x10" so around 25 gallons. The filter is in fact aqueon, I really like the 78F preset temperature. I've measured it using a thermometer and it holds true! I rarely need to change the temperature and having the dials adds bulk and length to the heater. Highly recommend!

    Hi! I love the minimalistic look of this tank and would love to recreate it as my very first fish tank. A couple quick questions though (please excuse my inexperience):
    1. I've read about "adding CO2 in my research. Would this tank require that?
    2. Would I be able to add a few tank mates so my betta doesn't get lonely and would I need to change anything in this design to reflect the additions? For example, if I add a couple snails/shrimp I would need to add more plants, etc.
    Thanks in advance and I love watching your videos!

    • @milkandcookies8254
      @milkandcookies8254 2 роки тому +1

      Having tank mates depends on the betta's personality also yes co2 is necessary yes you need to add plants when keeping shrimp,shrimpy usually eat brown alage(produced from plants) i hope this helped you! Also don't keep duckweed with shrimp

    • @-.Meylin.-
      @-.Meylin.- Рік тому

      The comment above is wrong.
      The plants that are inside the water in the video, are slow growers. They don't need CO2 at all, and neither does the lucky bamboo because it gets co2 and oxygen from outside the tank. Also plants don't need co2 injection. It just speed things up but it's not a must to have planted tanks at all.
      About tank mates, depends on your aquarium size, if its a 5 gallon id say some snails and shrimp if you have lots of cover for them, if its a 10 gallon you could add pigmy corydoras or some chilli rasboras, never put another betta in there because they'll kill each other or hurt each other very badly.
      Cherry shrimp LOVE floating plants, that includes duckweed, they'll graze on the duckweed and hang there, I just don't recommend getting duckweed in general because it reproduces too fast, which means you'll have to do much more maintenance taking out the excess duckweed

    Hello, nice setup.. However using real bamboo (Bambusoideae) instead of lucky bamboo might be more suitable. Real bamboo would be closer to the Betta’s natural habitat, which could help your fish feel more comfortable. Keep up the good work

    Hi!! I want to make this tank so I have a few questions
    What type of water filter do you use... and would you recommend a heater for betta in this tank?
    Would duckweed overmultiply?
    How would you suggest cleaning this tank?
    Where do you buy your tanks?
    Also is there any tips on how to control algae accumulation?
    Thanks so much :))

    • @AquariumInfo
      @AquariumInfo  3 роки тому +7

      So many great questions!
      - I used an internal Aqueon filter for this as I liked the sleek design, but you could use a small canister or hang on if you preferred
      -Definitely would always recommend a heater for a Betta tank, I like the Aqueon compact due to their size and preset 78F temperature
      - I like using Giant Duckweed as it is easier to remove from the tank, but yes duckweed will eventually cover the surface but I love the look of it! It’s a personal preference. This tank has low light plants so it won’t affect them with the top completely covered and the betta loves it!
      - I use a siphon and do 30% weekly water change it’s very simple. A magnet for the algae on the glass and secret is to buy a turkey Bastet to remove debris on the sand when it shows up, keeping it super white!
      - this one was made locally but I would suggest buying local if you can and it’s cheaper otherwise finding none online you like and having it shipped! I love the rimless look and it may be harder to find locally
      - floating plants like duckweed will suck almost all of the nitrates from the water and you’ll have little to no algae, they also reduce light into the tank so less algae. If you have algae issues the fastest way to reduce it is lower light strength, less light hours and more frequent water changes to reduce nitrates!

    I know this video is 3 years old, but I was wondering. Did you use artificial sand or actual sand from the beach? I live on an island and I can easily get actual sand but I'm unsure if it will be safe for freshwater fish and the lucky bamboo. I plan on washing the sand with fresh water thoroughly and let it soak for a day to get the salt out maybe? But I don't want to risk hurting my fish babies. Any advice if I can go ahead with this please?

    I set up a dwarf frog tank and put some lucky bamboo in it. I set the tank up about a month ago and I’m having severe melt problems with the bamboo and I really don’t know what the issue is. The tank was set up with the following: a gravel bottom layer, root tabs on top of the gravel, capped off with black sand. Bamboo was planted right into the sand, with the roots in contact with that root tab layer. Some tank ornaments are included as well. The tank is 3gal and has a 50W heater to keep the tank around 75 deg F, and a small hang on back filter. I do 25-50% water changes weekly.
    The bamboo looked fine for the first two weeks or so, but started to show signs of melt soon after. After leaving the tank for the weekend, the bamboo is severely melting now. I know bamboo can be planted either partially or fully submerged. Some of the stalks and leaves are fully submerged, some have the leaves partially poking out of the water. Both are melting, so it could be a chemical imbalance - my water here in Pennsylvania is quite hard so maybe that’s a factor. The one thing my tank is missing is an overhead light. I put the tank by an east facing window figuring it was getting enough natural light, but I’ve never heard of lack of sufficient light causing melt.
    I’m probably gonna have to toss this set of bamboo because I don’t think it can be salvaged. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

      Great question, this is simply tap water! I would always recommend to buy a test kit and check your water is suitable parameters for the type of fish you're keeping. It generally is but sometimes you can have very hard/soft water or an unusual pH. It is then always important to add a conditioner to the water to make sure you remove any chlorines/chloramines in the water. If you're using bottled water that is probably OK if it's spring water. I would avoid RO/Distilled water as it has almost no mineral content (very low TDS) and isn't great for fish
