My decluttering approach for clothing: for each season, pack two weeks worth of clothes, as though you were going on a trip. Then, get rid of everything else for that season.
I can really relate to taking out all my clothes and piling them onto the bed. Because I'm a world-class procrastinator, I'll never address the mess in one day. Instead, I'll agonize about decisions to be made. At the end of the day, a significant chunk of the clothes mountain will be on the floor. Days or weeks later...... Little by little, I'm improving. Has anyone seen my keys? LOL
Biggest thing I figured out after owning 5 homes is to not keep more than you can fit. (of course clothing and shoes do not apply!) lol but in the bathrooms, in the pantry, in the hall closets, guest room closets etc. I do not overbuy household supplies anymore, I wait for them to almost run out. Why store it? Maybe one extra and stock up on tp and ppr towels is an exception. Tip: If you have to cram things into a space, you need to get rid of some stuff.

Time that could be spent on just getting things done. I also am with you on not throwing everything on your bed, but instead, going through your closet in sections. Plus like the one commenter said, a lot of it would end up on the floor, cuz you'd run out of time in the time available, and need to get to bed. 🤔
Great points! It’s nice to watch someone actually open a messy drawer and clear it, rather than some videos where they have 5 things in the drawer and say it’s messy when it clearly isn’t. Once you reach a point where your place is decluttered and organized, just be sure to pick up daily, weekly, or whatever works to keep all clutter at bay, and never shove stuff somewhere and forget it. That was our biggest mistake over the past 40 years of marriage. Also, avoid buying at big box stores! Your not saving any money if not using it all. Instead, you just end up storing the excess. Hi I'm trying I got so overwhelmed and some things you can't just throw in the bins so now I still have them in containers I don't have a car so it makes it hard to get those bulky bigger items out.or down to Salvos to the second hand shop 🤔 ..stressful.
That’s amazing that you’ve started! You didn’t get all your stuff overnight so it’s going to take time to declutter - but little by little you’ll get there!
Just subscribed. I have so much stuff, inherited a lot from my other half’s mom and dad who were divorced, and some from my mom who recently passed. My other half unexpectedly and suddenly passed away last year at age 58. I’ve been down, plus have major heath issues thr require surgery, knees, back, etc. I’m in pain a lot of the time so I figure why bother, I’ll never finish any declutterring when I can barely take care of my most essential needs right now. Help!
Thanks for this video! Really helpful! Also, wondering you mentioned single use items to avoid like qtips. I'm curious what you use instead? I've tried those plastic ones and they don't really work. Thanks!!!
You are so welcome! Honestly what I do is clean out my ears with a washcloth and soap in the shower now. But I've even heard of people using a tissue wrapped finger instead of qtips :)
My why is... I'm older and I don't want my kids to have a mess when I die for the kids to have to clean. I'm doing really well. It's called Swedish death cleaning
I pull everything out only if I’m deep cleaning my closet. Otherwise I just pull items out that no longer fit or I no longer like. It’s hard when you still like the stuff but there’s reasons your not reaching for the items.
I actually pulled out the clothes that are too small for me now, and will try them on again in a year. If they still don't fit, they're getting donated.
I have no disagreement with donating but inevitably it's shit no one wants and ends up in landfills. And we all want to give ourselves a gold star with thinking we are doing good. We are a society of what's in it for me so now we sell items we'd in previous times donate.
Toilet paper doesn’t bring me joy but it’s just a necessity. 😂 In all seriousness I’m embarrassed to have anyone over, including my son and best friend. When my brothers and I were growing up we made all of our Halloween costumes with the help from our Mom. We had some truly amazing costumes… way better than store bought costumes. My son never had a store bought costume either and loved his costumes. All of us had to decide what we wanted to be and wear within a week to a month early just in case we had to buy something for the costume. If we had to get something we would go to a store like Good Will with the exception of the makeup.
De cluttered isn’t my problem it is getting rid of the items. I can’t afford to have it picked up and it would take me a million trips to the donation place. I don’t live around free pick up donation haulers . Everything I have to get rid of is expensive and not worn or used. Lots of clothing, furs boot’s shoes never worn tags on . And lots of doll collections, doll houses and doll furniture still in the boxes . It’s getting out of the house that’s the problem. I’ve called places but they don’t come to my area
@@tarynmaria_ I already have some on FB .. but I did find a buyer for everything today on Craigslist.. I may not get what i could sell things for myself but it’s better than nothing.. if it were used items I’d probably just dump them but all my things are brand new. Thank you ..
Costumes. U would do things like buying sets at toy store that my boys would use to play with after Halloween. One year they put on their class A uniforms and went trick or treating as boy scouts.
Pardon me🤯? Who has money to purchase stuff? This is an old, heavily debunked assumption made re people who need to declutter(!). I had apartment challenges so needed to move fast into whatever was available. It was a mad rush so too much stuff came with me. This happened more than once. I am stunned re the assumptions in this video.
I appreciate your perspective. Many people, for various reasons, find themselves with more belongings than they need. Decluttering, KonMari, Swedish Death Cleaning - these methods help people simplify their lives.
A lot of people buy things they really do not need if they stop and think about it, or buy things that are useful for some time and then put aside, thinking they will need it maybe again.....but that does not happen and THEN it is just 'stuff'. I do not think anyone just buys stuff to clutter. It is just something that happens to nearly everyone, given enough time.

Once you reach a point where your place is decluttered and organized, just be sure to pick up daily, weekly, or whatever works to keep all clutter at bay, and never shove stuff somewhere and forget it. My why is... I'm older and I don't want my kids to have a mess when I die for the kids to have to clean. I'm doing really well. It's called Swedish death cleaning
Great job!!
I pull everything out only if I’m deep cleaning my closet. Otherwise I just pull items out that no longer fit or I no longer like. It’s hard when you still like the stuff but there’s reasons your not reaching for the items.
Yes! I have stuff that I really like but I just never wear it too!
KonMari comes from a Japanese organizing consultant named Marie Kondo ^_^
What kind of stick vac do you use?😊
Hi! I have the Dyson one: bit.ly/3yh4k58 ☺
Free cycle pages and groups
Yes, love those groups!!
👍🏻
Toilet paper doesn’t bring me joy but it’s just a necessity. 😂
In all seriousness I’m embarrassed to have anyone over, including my son and best friend.
That's so great - we used to make all our costumes growing up too! My mom made them all!
❤❤
Thank you!!
Can you direct us to the video on decluttering an entryway?
Yes! It's the end screen link but it's also here :) ua-cam.com/video/Zny8BqimdQM/v-deo.htmlsi=7BE0cRK7JZt4HgEg
Oh wow! I usually don't like to sell things but maybe that would be an option - like Facebook Marketplace? Sounds like you have some great stuff!
@@tarynmaria_ I already have some on FB .. but I did find a buyer for everything today on Craigslist.. I may not get what i could sell things for myself but it’s better than nothing.. if it were used items I’d probably just dump them but all my things are brand new. Thank you ..
Fundraiser garage sales
Costumes. U would do things like buying sets at toy store that my boys would use to play with after Halloween. One year they put on their class A uniforms and went trick or treating as boy scouts.
So cute!! Love that.
Hubs doesn't spark joy, decision made.
Nooooooo haha!
😂😂😂😂
Good content but dang girl I had to turn it off. Your hand
Movements were making me dizzy
Whoops!!
@@annsalty5615 I understand what y’re saying, but, respectfully, this is not my point.
Soon as u said rule u lost me.
