  • See demonstrations of the five dog training games we played in my dog's Reactive Rover dog training class.
These games allow owners to practice strategies for how to manage reactive dogs when out in public and on walks, as well as working on desensitizing dogs to being in a space with other unknown dogs.
0:20 Activity #1: In and Out of Circle
    1:10 Activity #2: "Yikes" & Turn Around
2:37 Activity #3: "Yikes" On the Same Path
5:12 Activity #4: Pull Off the Path
9:10 Activity #5: Circle Near Other Dogs
This class was taken with Seacoast Canine in Salisbury, Massachusetts.

I wish I could go to a class like this with my dog 😅
It would be great to work around other reactive dogs, learn from the owner’s mistakes and successes, and learn more about behavior modification.
Plus I’d love to work with a clicker to help my timing, but my mom isn’t sure about it :/
    It would also teach me to work well in a stressful situation, which would be great cause I usually get overwhelmed by a lot of dogs barking in one place ;-;
Anyway, the class seems like great practice, and great job working with Remi and handling him!

I hope you can find a class like this to join! Otherwise, you can always practice some of the strategies included here as well as engage/disengage at a local park or anywhere else you frequently encounter dogs - just make sure you start out with plenty of space and work under your dog's threshold. :)
And thank you for the kind words amount me and Remy. We've been working very hard!

Thanks for this! I didn't know this is what it is called. I was able to search for this type of class near me and find a training that offers this. I 'm looking to sign up for a class. Cheers!

Thank you for sharing this I am pleased to see that this is similar to how I set up my reactivity classes as well but am just starting out so I have had to make my own make shift dividers. Where did you get your dividers if you don't mind me asking?

This was a class I attended, not a class I organized myself, so I can't say where the barriers came from!

There’s an open field near where I live that usually has a large amount of friendly dogs running around. I usually take my dog there for training when there’s less than 4 dogs there.
I stand 20 feet away from the dogs and let my dog smell and inspect them, while rewarding for the behavior I like. One of the owners that go there regularly are aware of the fact that my dog is reactive and fearful, and tells the others so they don’t approach us. We do this once a week. It’s helping her make progress as she has never seen dogs getting along, nor has she ever been in such a new and fun space while there are dogs around.
She likes it though. And so do I. So I go there. If someone approaches us we usually go back in the car and I have her do a down stay in an area where she can’t see the windows. I’m hoping that one day she can greet that one golden retriever I saw there as she has tolerated off leash dogs before in open fields like this. I’m really hoping she does get the chance to run around like any other dog. Of course, this will be with a long leash for safety, and I’ll make sure to call her back the second a new dog comes.
It’s a decent alternative for a reactive dog class, as your dog can meet dogs that won’t react, and learn new behavior without being in danger. Most dogs in the area are big dogs, which works well with my dog as she dislikes a majority of dogs smaller than her.

Great suggestions! I love that idea! Sounds like it’s working really well for your dog. Well done!

Lol, doesn't matter what breed. I have a reactive pitbull mix myself, check out my other videos about reactivity in dogs. Pit bulls don't need any special training, they respond just as well to positive reinforcement-based techniques as any other dog.

dogs can't even walk on a proper leash, zero chance of stopping any reactivity if they don't even have basic leash control.

I don't agree -- leash control is awesome but it's a completely separate issue from reactivity. And, in a high stimulating environment like this, having a perfect loose leash walk or heel is completely unrealistic.
