    I often wonder if Crosby had been a mechanic or something we wouldn’t have the masterpieces he has created throughout the years. Incredible song writer.

      @@Dawg93 exactly. based on BigMamaCass' aesthetic preference, Crosby made the dubious transition from alto/high tenor perfection to the ''difficult'' middle harmony [the Byrds only rarely used 3 parts, to emphasise Crosby's role], leaving the nasal Mancunian's nails-on-slate falsetto as CSN's legacy. which turned out to be where the $$ is.

      sunkentree: you seem to have scarpered, so here's your comment and my response:
      @r p - we get it you know about some musician's dirty laundray. can we say nice things about mr crosby without any further ado?
      @sunkentree: did your rage keep you from finishing my comment? david crosby is heaven-bound for his Byrds harmonies. the CSN debauchery and his general need to debase perceived rivals [ask me for the list] is what's gonna keep him in purgatory for what appears to be a long time

    Always the odd chords and time-signatures, and moody, spacey atmosphere with Croz' songs. Never heard this one until now -- it's yet another great tune by this brilliant singer-songwriter.

    Growing up in the foggy, misty and laid-back Santa Cruz mountains in the '60s & '70s, I learned the feeling of melancholy at an early age. Friends too far away to visit after school and rarely even on the weekends, too dangerous road to ride my bike, all alone, no brothers or sisters, just my dog and acres & acres to hike - by myself, dreaming of friends, a girlfriend and a father without an insane temper, melancholy became my best friend.
    This is melancholy epitomized. Beautiful.The feeling of the '60s & '70s put to music.We were there.

      I also fully understand. Grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina in the late sixties doing exactly what you did, stayed in the woods and fields with my dog's sad and dreaming. Then got drafted...what a bummer, but soon met a beautiful girl that became my wife, what a winner after all.

      I can probably help you out.. I know he's a full step down standard tuning in this recording playing shapes of Am, hammering on 1st fret of 2nd string, and then to an Em shape. Then to transition from Em to Am shape, he's hammering on 2nd fret of 4th string then playing open 3rd string instantly after.. hard to explain with words, lol.. maybe I will make a guitar cover at some point if you want.

    The Byrds lost fired David Crosby of the band.

    • @Vito_Tuxedo
      @Vito_Tuxedo 5 років тому +2

      No one regrets the breakup of the original Byrds more than I do, starting with the departure of Gene Clark. But if you read Johnny Rogan’s superb Byrds biography _Timeless Flight Revisited,_ you’ll realize that it was inevitable.
      There was no cohesion in the band any more. Fistfights; arguments over the material; arguments about control in the studio; Crosby using gigs as a platform for his political views, while the rest of the band wanted to avoid politics...everything was a fight; and of course the drugs didn’t help.
      You’ll see Crosby and McGuinn being nice to each other now, and McGuinn has even said (reportedly) that he regrets firing Crosby. But that’s now; back then, he knew exactly what he was doing, and why. It was just unworkable. Crosby wanted out, and would have quit if McGuinn hadn’t fired him.
