Interesting take. I don’t think Physix is close at all to the VEBO even shined. My Physix is significantly more round than my VEBO’s. However Physix was a a really good release! Love the videos Luke! I enjoy the differences of opinions from content creators.
@@LukeRosdahl correct as am I. Mine are much farther apart than yours. VEBO is much faster downlane. Not a bad thing that the Physix Blackout is more round, they are both great releases.
Bowling in general is flat out expensive now. Say buy 3 new balls and get them drilled. It costs on average $250. That's $750 for 3 balls. And if you don't like it. You get maybe $150 back if the ball is one people want. I like your reviews Luke as I'm lefty as well and play a similar style so get a great read of a ball. But a lot of people don't get that luxury. They watch pro's with 500 revs and 18 mph that make any ball look good. Though, this is the time to buy discounted balls because that's when I do feel they are prices accordingly. Too many mid-tier balls should not be $180 un-drilled.
I agree! I’m fortunate enough to make my balls move but I find myself time to time kind of feeling bad for people when it comes to this. I agree with you. It’s all a marketing scheme.
But it's not like bowling ball prices have actually increased. Top tier balls have been $200 for... As long as I can remember. Everything else in the world has double to tripled in price over the past 5-10 years, while bowling balls prices haven't moved. Drilling costs have gone up, but that's because of the PSO needing to afford the Eggs that cost 5x what they did 5 years ago. I don't think there's any data to support the claim that ball prices have increased. Especially any of us who used to throw Lane #1 equipment 20 years ago.
For potential Optimum Idol replacement, I'm surprised you didn't mention the Motiv Forge Sub Zero. Big strong smooth early Sym. Or have you seen different results with that ball around you?
Ah yeah that's a good point, I just missed or didn't think of that one. Little different shape but yeah that's probably the closest one out there easily.
I did scoop up a 2nd vebo to stash. I’m sure we’ll have an ultra clean asym from one of the three soon. I thought the attention star with the rstx2 cover would be it but it seemed more stable midlane instead of that ultra clean float. Big thing I’m ready for is a Roto HP2 line ball we’ve been without the hypes for awhile. Looking for something slightly earlier than the hyroad balls but with those weaker covers
Hi Luke how are you? In a lot of ways I am suprised! People loved the harsh reality for the big asymmetrical shape. The peak was supposed to be the compliment to the orginal Summit. Optimum idol shocked me because of how good the ball performs and some app staffers like the shape better then the phase II. I literally just got my first vebo right before the new year to complete my arsenal . I had a feeling my get discounted in the near future for some reason. Boy i guessed right. Everybody talked well about this ball.
Maybe, but with the Sublime Focus just coming out, I don't think they need another big sym solid for a bit. Sublime probably the next ball needing replaced as far as strong solid symmetric balls.
hey Luke , im a lefty who likes standing between 10- 22 board, lofting to 5-12 board at 14-16 mph. i throw ion max w/power edge on it, effect tour, and hazmat solid. im working to build a 6 ball arsenal for league play and tournaments. i have raised my average from 135 to now bowling games from 175-222 with above three balls in the past 4 months. does optimum idol solid or VEBO fit for me before they are gone for good? or i also been looking at ion pro, scorpion strike, anger, artic vibe, 3d offset, BW mania, zen 25, theorum P or H, DV8 troublemaker, physix BO. or anything else you recommend to add as a lefty. any help is much appreciated
VEBO I think would be a good fit, but the original Theorem and BW Mania have been better for me than it was, similar overall reactions but the B7 covers just seem to read the lane better than Storm stuff right now. So if you got either of those and then a Scorpion Strike to go under your Hazmat Solid, I think you'd be set.
The Physix blackout is a completely different ball, PBO is a big strong, smooth 1 ball (just a bit weaker than an ion max) and the lightning blackout is a slightly stronger Hustle a 3 or 4+ ball
Honestly, yeah I think they're doing themselves a disservice by naming multiple releases "blackout". The level, vebo, pbo, and lightning look pretty similar on shelves but quite different on the lanes.
Never threw the VEBO but I've seen so many go down the lanes as it was pretty popular around here. Threw Physix Blackout this week and its pretty close. Loving the Physix BO, its definitely a bit earlier than the VEBO, a little less whippy but a great shape. Physix BO is more midlane and continuous which I've been missing. Vaporize or Theorem are closer to VEBO, maybe a little more angular due to HK22.
Most of the time bowling lingo is just regular stuff used to describe bowling stuff. Think of what chuggy means, like an old truck chugging down the road, chuggy is kind of slow and almost struggling. Puking means a ball starts to hook on the backend and then looks like it just gives up.
@LukeRosdahl that makes sense, i dont think ive heard chuggy from anyone but you, and it paints a picture. I guess puking would be a ball that rolls out easily. Its strange, I would definitely be one of those on the opposite side Regarding the summit peak, generally I am standing in the gutter with that one and hooking the lane, for me it's almost too strong. But I'm pretty rev dominant and usually have a lot of axis
I think companies are pushing it too far now. People get bored really quickly though, so that's why stuff is coming out faster. The faster they put it out, the faster and more people buy, so no real reason for them not to push it as far as they think they can. I think we found the line tho.
@LukeRosdahl that's y I stepped away from the game they making it easier for new bowlers throwing 300 with theses new ball covers cause they cant hook the ball themselves

Yeah it's getting extremely old at this point. It's the same talking points, same phrasing, discontinue/rinse/repeat.

R.I.P the amazing optimum idol, a ball that will be missed by me a ton, amazing ball and one of a kind😔😔
I’m so sad about the Optimum Idol that I ordered 6 more to keep in the closet. Love that ball can’t believe it’s gone already 😢

When's the Zen and level review coming out?
Had some shipping delays during the holidays so they just now got their stuff, probably be another week before I'm able to get reviews up.
shot my 2nd 800 with the vebo. how does the phyix blackout compare to the lightening blackout?
Completely different cores, plus the PhysiX has a stronger cover. Not comparable at all really.
The Physix blackout is a completely different ball, PBO is a big strong, smooth 1 ball (just a bit weaker than an ion max) and the lightning blackout is a slightly stronger Hustle a 3 or 4+ ball
