this thing really feels like a true successor to the original forester, nice to see offroad-capable versions of normal cars (basically the anti-SUV) come back
I adore my 2023 Crosstrek. It has gotten me through some crazy weather in New England. If you put a set of good winter tires on these (Blizzak, Nokian, etc.) they can get through anything. It’s really cool to see Subaru add a wilderness trim finally. I think the biggest upgrade is the CVT cooler honestly. I would love to have that on my 2023. It will help elongate the life of the CVT which are prone to failure around 110k-125k miles. I Highly recommend anyone who purchases this to do a CVT fluid change at 30k-40k mile increments. Subaru of America says the CVT fluid is a lifetime fluid which is insane. You could easily get 150k+ miles out of this if you service it properly.

@@domenik8339 Clearly you are not well informed. You should check out the stories in the Crosstrek, XVCrosstrek and Subaru Subreddits. My 2015 Impreza sports CVT went at 113k miles after regular maintenance and there are plenty of similar stories of CVT's failing around that mileage. I blame it on not changing out the CVT fluid. Subaru of Canada, Subaru of Japan and Subaru Europe all recommend changing the CVT fluid between 30k and 60k miles. Subaru of America says it's a "life time fluid" which is insane. There is no such thing as a "life time fluid" in any car. Edit: In fact the new 2024 Crosstrek manual says CVT fluid should be changed every 25k if the car falls under "severe driving conditions" which most cars do. Severe driving conditions include: Very hot or very cold weather, frequent short trips, driving on rough roads, driving in areas where road salts or other corrosive materials are used, living in coastal areas, etc.

I have a 2019 outback that I use for "softroading" but also some actual offroading as well. My outback has been the first on the trail after the snow last spring and cleared the trail from all the fallen trees and landslides. Very, and I mean very few vehicles have been up the same Olympic side of the mountain roads that my outback has. I have a hard time believing the different x modes actually help much, but maybe I should have faith in Subaru. My OG x mode (single mode, either on or off) has gotten me through things stock jeep wranglers wouldn't dare, dry river beds and over landslides at 6000 feet.
I just picked up my 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness last week. It's my 3rd Crosstrek and my favorite so far. I traded my 2021 Limited and got a great trade in value against my new one. My only complaint with the Crosstrek is that it lacks an interior hatch release which is something I feel on any vehicle today is not a luxury feature however Subaru still insists on leaving off the Crosstrek. Also really disappointed the Wilderness doesn't come with the compass option and the upgraded mirror is pricey although I have ordered one. To me it seems illogical to be offering the off-road capabilities such as higher clearance the sport mode and skid plate but no compass which seems like it should be a no brainer. I like the updated screen and climate control over the manual knobs and buttons on the older models and the phone charger slot is nice and big which is great when I have a ruggedized Doogee phone that doesn't fit in the charging port of our Outback Wilderness edition. I ordered the Alpine Green Crosstrek Wilderness edition which imo is the sharpest looking but that's personal taste. Alpine Green is only available in the Wilderness edition. We are a Subaru Wilderness family with an Autumn Green Outback and Alpine Green Crosstrek and my middle son who had a WRX changed to a Forester Wilderness edition when he got his big dog. 😊 Overall excellent vehicles to drive. Great gas mileage and my new one has a Harman Kardon stereo so I can blast the tunes.
If a buyer could swing the extra ~$4k, the outback wilderness gets them into the 2.4L turbo powerplant -- assuming that the crosstrek size isn't the primary reason for purchase. That's a big deal for hauling lots of people and things. And it might make a difference at high altitudes.
yeah thats the point, to me the crosstrek FELT like driving a car and not a truck and thats was my number 1 point. It has enough room for kids but small enough to handle well. also to me the crosstrek wilderness is the best looking subaru. underrated opinion but I love the wilderness cladding, give rugged rally vibes.
Yea, personally, the Outback Wilderness is a bit larger than I want, but if you can swing the extra cash, the turbo makes it the best choice, especially if you drive in mountainous terrain or with a lot of passengers/luggage.
I've got a hitch on my new Crosstrek Wilderness and so far it has zero issues pulling our boat and trailer. I guess if you are towing a huge 5th wheel sized one the Outback is the better option but we have a 2023 Outback Wilderness and a 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness and honestly they are both excellent choices. The Crosstrek is a little easy to park in tight spots for folks who don't like driving something as long as a truck.
Been saying this for years. Subaru needs to make a lo-pressure turbo engine. So it could make some TORQUE. The 182hp is fine but it needs to make about 250ft/lbs @ 3500rpm.
Funny comparison. I went from test driving this to a GR Corolla with the performance pack the next day. The capabilities of both cars as far as traction was incredible. The GR of course accelerated like a bat out of hell, with a delicious manual. The CVT, engine and lack of manual here made me wish for the WRX engine. The car was otherwise a perfect daily for the reason Topher mentions (visibility, comfort, capability, interior which was better than GRC). This is a cool car that will do everything except performance.
This was a very impressive test drive especially in this bad weather! I go back and forth between this and a Forester. I've been hesitant about buying a CVT or a DCT and an engine with less than 200 lbs of torque. Great job! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
My mom has a forester wilderness. Its great, perfect amount of power imo. And the xmode nob is in the center console which is great. The CVT is awesome i never even knew it was one, its very smooth and linear. We also took it down "mud lane" which is over a mile long extremley muddy road with deep ruts right after a rain storm and it did amazing.
I have a 23’ Crosstrek sport, I just wish the wilderness, all models would have the 2.4 turbo, I love the 2.4 in the outback wilderness but the forester and Crosstrek definitely need it
Nice video. One suggestion, the start of the video where the camera is jiggling (because you are walking around?) is quite annoying. I like the Crosstrek, but prices have crept up too much. 32K for the Wilderness and approaching 35K with options. At 30k it would be a great value, but at 32-35k, not so much. At this price, there are a lot of other choices, both in the high end subcompact and low/mid trim compacts. The Crosstrek Wilderness is probably the least capable of the Wilderness models as well. The "skid plate" is a joke, no front facing camera, same engine as the Sport, and the cladding is butt ugly. The transmission cooler and additional towing capacity are nice, although I dont think one would want to tow 3500 pounds with this car. Personally, I would go with the Sport trim (or Impreza RS if you dont go off road). It is a bit cheaper, and the Wilderness trim adds minimal off road capability. Now if they would just put in a 200 hp turbo they would sell like hotcakes.
Drove the new Outback Touring. The interior is a huge upgrade from the previous gen, and even if everything is made through the screen, it´s easy. Icons are big and menus are quite simple. Shame Subaru decided to not make a reversing camera full screen, just half which looks weird. RAB is very handy when parking. It might look like a crossover now, but at least it´s a true off-road estate unlike the new A6 Allroad or E-Class All Terrain for example. Subaru really stepped up!

This is the first time I've seen that red color and it looks pretty good, but I still don't understand why they have those big cutouts in the cladding near the wheels. Also, for the price it would've been nice to get a rear lsd, and as always my disappointment in the loss of a manual transmission is immeasurable. All in all this is nearly the perfect daily driver for where I live in northern Michigan.
I love what Subaru has done with the Crosstrek/wilderness edition. In the past I owned a 1997 forester and a 2007 forester LL BEAN EDITION. I loved end enjoyed both of my foresters. I liked that both of my foresters had a traditional transmission . I don’t why Subaru decided to go with a CVT. Subaru should have kept the traditional transmission. I would love to buy a crosstrek wilderness but the only thing holding me back is the CVT.
Love your videos! :) I almost went with a 2024 Crosstrek Onyx (Sport in the US I think?) - but I preferrered the interior of the 24 Forester more. Can't wait to get mine in a week or so! Subaru stays winning (minus the dated infotainment...)!
I like these things for what they are, but the interior triggers my ocd. Why the hell did they make the steering wheel controls and instrument panel white backlit, yet the window controls on the doors are red? Makes no damn sense and makes me appreciate the cabin of my 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch even more.
Thanks for sharing this video! This seems like a pretty nice option! My current daily is a '13 manual Sti so it's hard to consider ditching the turbo and transmission... But everything else (minus the screen) just seems ultimately better and more reliable.. tsk tsk decisions decisions...
Easy decision, keep the sti and get a new Crosstrek. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having a second vehicle .... or even a third. I've been doing it since 1987.
How well does the wireless charging work? I noticed the constant white light flashing. Wondering if that meant it couldn't get a good contact to charge? I would hope they would use a material that wasn't too slippery for phone.
Hey, quick question. @ 13:33 you mentioned how you would like manual transmission (so would I as I'm about to buy a CT) or you also said a torque converter automatic. I had no idea what that was, so I briefly looked it up, and it essentially is what makes a car go (faster I think) but isn't that what all automatic transmission cars have, including the Subaru CT? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but just doing my best to learn. Thanks for the video review, as I was debating between the CT and CTW, but I can't justify the extra cost and the gas mileage is better on the CT vs CTW.
My loan on my 2021 Touring is about done and I'm currently hesitating if I pickup a 2024. Very little mileage (COVID car) makes me want to buy it out. I also like the car
I do have questions about this car ,when we going to the highway and speed up do you think the car is under power for lane changing ? Ali’s the car it seems like very loud from the engine.
I guess they know no one will buy the dam WRX and go for this instead. But I agree. Needs a 2.4 turbo or at the least give it a manual. Manual on this would make it tons better.
Although towing 3500lbs definitely seems a bit of a stretch, could you see it being able to safely and occasionally tow around 1500lbs - 2000lbs safely?

Thks for sharing best video so far I ve seen......kinda of cool finally. I just bought one and like it for a many fun drive and no worries 😉
Got a 2023 forester but kind of feel like adding this to my fleet. 😂
If I had to choose a modern subaru to replace my 2011 wrx hatch, this is the one that most reminds me of my wrx, and I would choose this.
A manual on that would have been nice
I watch reviews like this and WISH I had a need for this car. Here in DFW, all I need is a car that does a good job sitting in city traffic lol.
I want one so bad, would be the perfect daily driver
This is the first time I've seen that red color and it looks pretty good, but I still don't understand why they have those big cutouts in the cladding near the wheels. Also, for the price it would've been nice to get a rear lsd, and as always my disappointment in the loss of a manual transmission is immeasurable. All in all this is nearly the perfect daily driver for where I live in northern Michigan.
i love subarus best awd system for our michigan pothole winter icy deluxe edition.
that color is beautiful
Turbo option and smaller screen with physical knobs and I’m sold. Like that screen is so damn distracting
Love the color of this one
that's funny. when i lived in the north i did the same thing with nocking snow off before getting the car
Didn’t realize you posted these reviews same day as you filmed them
If only they would put the turbo in the Crosstrek!
the interior looks very simple but nice
I actually like the gold accents. It's a nice change from the overused red ''sport'' trims
Love your videos! :) I almost went with a 2024 Crosstrek Onyx (Sport in the US I think?) - but I preferrered the interior of the 24 Forester more. Can't wait to get mine in a week or so! Subaru stays winning (minus the dated infotainment...)!
If this was a hybrid it would slay the market
Really didn't like the way the black cladding looked on all the promo shots of the Green color car. But on the red here it looks very nice.
It really does look like a hiking boot 😆
I wouldn't wear a hiking boot that looked like that.
@@kenhoward3512 Cool.
I dont get the hate, it look very cool and rugged. would never bought a crosstrek if it didnt look like that. I love it.
Pissed that my 23 forester wilderness doesn’t have the orange lighting being the tac and speedo 😢
Just needs a MT
what do you think of the 2024 bmw i8 topher?
I like these things for what they are, but the interior triggers my ocd. Why the hell did they make the steering wheel controls and instrument panel white backlit, yet the window controls on the doors are red? Makes no damn sense and makes me appreciate the cabin of my 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch even more.
Always wanted a crosstrek but i hate that giant screen.
This or a 6sp GTI...? Completely different cars, both scratch a different itch. But cost about the same. Even with insurance.
Sounds wasteful. If the car works, why need to upgrade
In Europe we get a full surround camera view but don’t get the wilderness. Shame
Which is better value subaru crostrek or ford territory?
I do have questions about this car ,when we going to the highway and speed up do you think the car is under power for lane changing ? Ali’s the car it seems like very loud from the engine.
This with a manual would have been a no brainer.
Yup. Manual > CVT
Heard another presenter say something similar "Not sure I want to tow 3500lbs in a car that weighs 3500lbs"
did your ohone start charging as soon as you started the car? mine only charges when the car is in drive :/ seems like a big oversight
That clap before you got in made me subscribe….. RESPECT
YOU CAN TELL THE CAR TO "SET TEMPERATURE TO" USING THE TALK BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL
CLEARLY, BUT CAN IT STILL UNDERSTAND YOU WHEN YOU’RE SCREAMING AT IT?
@@EUC-lid I ACTUALLY HAVE TO TALK LOUD AT IT IF THE FAN IS BLOWING HARD AND LOUD
omg just give this thing a WRX engine!
I guess they know no one will buy the dam WRX and go for this instead. But I agree. Needs a 2.4 turbo or at the least give it a manual. Manual on this would make it tons better.
I see lots (and lots) of cladding, yet it's missing from where most mud and stones are thrown.
It’s optimally placed to trap all the road salt against the wafer-thin sheet metal.
Looks appealing......cvt, no physical climate controls, looks like an electrical e brake. For me these features are unappealing.
請問您,車子有換雪胎嗎?
如果一般胎,車子可以在雪地行走,真是太強了!👍😂
Great review! Want to get this car
Random but I hate the cup holder design change driving one of these compared to previous years
Can you please add the car weight in the description? Would be nice to know how much those 182 horses are pushing around
Right around 3,370
great deal of a car
subaru, just like hyundai has the best deals.
Well done.
wishing this still came with the mannual trans but ig thats a dieing breed was going to get one but i dont think i could own a cvt
33 mpg highway, not 29.
Although towing 3500lbs definitely seems a bit of a stretch, could you see it being able to safely and occasionally tow around 1500lbs - 2000lbs safely?
Id be curious about that too since i have a 1500 camper
Why can't they make a Crosstrek with more than 200hp.
Love the car but really hate the engine noice. Bought the gag ball but don’t know here to put.
I dont get the plastics. It`s terrible. Mazda cx-30 missed oportunity for same reason.
Don't you mean manual transmission, not automatic transmission!?
Do you still fell the wipers in the brake pedal?😂
Good Review.
Somehow, the overdone cladding doesn't look as bad here.
I love it, it give a "rally car" vibe and its one of my fav looking car
