The John Stewart interview was truly iconic. An absolute masterpiece of comedy, of news, of civic consciousness, of moral fortitude, you name it. I hope that moment continues to go down in history as one of the finest challenges to the decay of modern news media that has ever aired.
I'm still astounded Carlson managed to rise out of those ashes. He wasn't the cultic icon he is today. That should have torpedoed his credibility even among the conservative true believers.

As much as I despise Test-the-tickle-tanner Tucker Carlson, this post I find not bad, even quite good.
All the media, all movies are constructed to appeal to emotion. The villain is always wonderfully one-dimensional, REALLY evil, totally deserves it.
And there never is a way to stop him other than erasing him.
So it is totally OK that the lone wolf hero acts against all institutions, against all laws and in total self-justice takes his .45 and blows the brains out of the evil villain's head.
And we all LOOOOVE it, relish in the brain fragments splattering the wall because the villain so deserved it.
(we germans have the advantage to understand that this is pure fiction, as guns and "stand your ground" are not integral part of our culture, an actually possible option of your action repertoire as guns are around everywhere).
We have to be honest ALL of us have this urge to sometimes want that guy to REALLY pay for whatever we are just mad about.

And in principle Tucker now says "Oops, I felt this urge, but that is not the right way, I do not want to be like that, go to such extremes. So I make myself aware of this my weakness, keep that awareness in the back of my head so that I am always prepared not to fall for it".
One of the things I found good about Jesus' teachings, awareness of your fallibility. NEVER think you are EVER without sin, flawless.
This becoming aware reminds me of a story the lead singer of Steppenwolf (to my surprise a german) told. He said in those days you smoked everything that could burn. And then, one morning, when he woke up, his first thought was "Where is something to smoke?". But this time it came on him with a bang "THAT is your first thought??! NOOO! I do not want to be controlled by something" and in this moment stopped smoking and taking anything and never looked back.
Thinking positively, Tucker's post could be interpreted that way. COULD.
But from what we learn about him, he continues to spread lies and hate So his self-awareness, the awareness that someone like him can cause REAL harm, has not been affected significantly

Yes, Jon Stewart does comedy and The political commentators should be held at a higher standard. 100%
Those are not the points that I was trying to make.
Jon Stewart does more than just comedy, he brings important political issues to a younger left leaning audience. Also, a large segment of the public considers him more newsworthy than actual news shows, Which I agree with. Jon Stewart takes his political philosophy very seriously. Keep in mind, if you make people laugh, they're much more likely to accept what you're saying! Jon has a very strong politically influential audience and Jon's sponsors know it.
If you re-read my original post, you'll probably recognize that Jon Stewart is using a double standard as an evasion tactic. He does this so he doesn't have to answer questions about his politics.
Let's agree that Jon is not required to answer any questions. So, why does he insist that others answer his questions regardless of how uncomfortable he makes his opponent.
I like Jon but he's more of a rhetorician than an honest debater.

Fukkar Charlatan - like Alt-Reilly et al = ideological entertainer - who poses as a supposed source of news. Ergo as is sadly often than case he panders to what his audience wants to believe under the guise of supposed news while said belief is shaped by their narrow ideological worldview.
Moral of the story: during the Great Depression in the US there used to be traveling Chautauqua tent operators. They would go from town to town playing upon the misery of others to monetize that. Were he an attorney he would be viewed as _"an ambulance chaser."_ He and _Faux News_ writ large are monetizing the "angst" of their audience - while further promoting the same to keep their "grievance industry" going. 🤨

I still say Jon Stewart for President! And I mean that seriously. He's not a politician but he is politically active. He is very intelligent and holds up well under pressure. He seems to actually give a shit about the country and its people rather than some corporations or special interest groups. And the best part? He doesn't want to be President. Add that all together and I think we have a real winner.

Right now humanity is on a collision course with itself over misunderstandings that happened 10,000 to 20,000 years ago but which still has effects today.

My favorite Tucker bullshit line is when he compared NY Governor Kathy Hochul's COVID measures to Jonestown death cult leader Jim Jones (the originator of "Kool-Aid drinker".) His segue for the comparison is that "neither of them were elected." First off, Hochul became Governor when Andrew Cuomo resigned. She was Lt Gov, which in NY, is actually voted for independently of governor in the primary (so, Dem voters chose Hochul and Cuomo - Cuomo didn't choose Hochul.) Also, is that your main problem with Jim Jones, that his cult never formally elected him? Hate to break it to you but if you follow Jim Jones to Jonestown, I'm pretty sure he has your vote.
