Outstanding coverage of these fine locomotives and superb photography to boot. I recall seeing these engines back in the day; always willing and capable their stentorian blasts echoing back in cuttings fully in command of the task in hand. I have many Hornby-Dublo and Wrenn models of the 8F which epitomise my memories of these machines. Thank you.
Hi my name is Phil it looks good.My name is Phil I did 50yrs on the footplate I have fired a number of locomotives in my time.I Started at Edgeley shed in 1961 as a fireman and I did 2yrs at Trafford park and then back to Edgeley I finished my time out as a driver at Longsight in2011.Regards Phil.
The only time I got to ride behind an 8F was a tour - I think startng from Carnforth, via Preston, Warrington, Frodsham for water, Llandudno - reverse - and up the hill to Ffestiniog. BUT - halfway up the single-track, we drifted to a halt, and had to wait while the steam built up again. I presume it was a poor fire or bad coal.
You've missed out one: 48773 on the Severn Valley Railway. In any case, I'd like to see a GWR Heavy Freight Engine compilation, which includes 3802 on the Llangollen Railway.
48773 was withdrawn in mid 2008 and has been in the Engine House at Highley since so I doubt much footage would’ve been taken of it before then. There’s also 8F 48431 on the KWVR. I think this video was more to show of the power of the 8Fs rather than them sitting in a museum.
I used to work with 8274 at GCRN before it failed the LMS number was just an inside joke as it never carried an LMS number because it was originally built as a WD 8F for turkey so it's as built number was TCDD 45160.
A wonderful portrait of a wonderful class of locomotive. Thank you. I especially enjoyed seeing 48151 out on the main line.
This clip beginning at 8:26 is one of the best continuous shots I have seen of any steam locomotive
48151 coming up and over Ais Gill summit is better
13 on and accelerating

It’ll be nice when 48151 is back from overhaul.. Can’t believe she was withdrawn just over 5 years ago already
Great video, that sound is so good!

Can’t beat the 8f Liam as even the famous Gordon Hodgson said they were the most underrated loco 👍👍
Ais Gill. From the top of the bank. The perfect shot! could have looked just the same 60 years ago.
Great done video :)
