3 DAY WINTER WILDERNESS TRIP at the LEAN TO BUSHCRAFT SURVIVAL SHELTER BASE CAMP

  • I spent 3 days camping in about a foot of snow at the lean to base camp. I also finished off the back wall for the second lean to using a tarp and pine bows. My food consisted of chicken, steak, broccoli and cheddar rice, eggs, oat meal, power bars, dehydrated apples, bananas, and oranges. After getting the tarp covered in pine bows to help catch snow and provide camouflage I move the front wall of the lean to the right side of the new shelter. As far as weather is concerned I got some light snow during the first night, and consistent rains during the second. The days where pretty decent as I just got some random light snow and sunshine.
The first day consisted of digging out snow, gather and processing firewood with my folding saw as well as uncover the fire pit where it had been built previously. It's not until day 2 that I start on finishing off the second shelter, and day three for moving the front over to the new lean to. The fire pit was shifted about 2 feet to the right of it's previous location so that it will be centered between the two front walls.
I have also done a little preparation for the next trip by stocking the second shelter with wood. Currently the shelter acts as a storage location, giving me more room inside the initial lean to. I gathered a few pine logs before I left so that I can start on the side walls during the next adventure to the base camp!

I have been involved in bushcraft and survival for over 30 years now, and I follow many bushcraft channels on YT.
This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I subscribed within minutes of watching you!
I was super impressed by the fact that your video is more about the bushcraft than the equipment you have, which in my opinion is what it should be about!
Sadly so many bushcraft videos seem to put people off, due to the fact that they seem to suggest that you need to spend a small fortune on equipment!
Fair play to you Sir, very impressed indeed, all the best for the UK.
    👍 😉

    Hello,
First time viewer but a long time camper. If you're looking for some suggestions for improvements I'll give you a few to start you off.
First get yourself some "SmartWool" socks very comfortable and very warm. Also get yourself some thinsulate boots. They're lightweight and waterproof and pretty warm. After you buy your boots waterproof them yourself with beeswax or snow seal. Take the lid off and light it on fire and then put the lid on to put the fire out. The wax will be nice and melted so that you can take a rag and buff it into the leather and the seams. At night take your boots and stick them in a plastic bag and put them at the bottom of your sleeping bag that way they won't freeze overnight and the plastic bag will keep the mud and debris out of your sleeping bag. Next get yourself a high-quality Bushcraft knife. You really need a knife that has a tag (handle end of the blade), all the way through the handle. I would also recommend something that's pretty hefty so that you can do more splitting with it. I made my own sheath for my knife and incorporated a fire starter and small container that holds cotton balls with Vaseline. That combination will light a fire even when it's raining.
I really enjoyed your video and look forward to others. I like how you work through the different problems and keep improving your designs. You remind me of me when I was younger. Ha ha. 🤣🤣
Keep up the good work and I hope your channel grows.

This is the first video I've seen of yours, and props to you using what you have and roughing it out there. Yeah, some guys have all the nicest of tools, gear, etc. but we, the viewers, mostly don't have all of that, so seeing you do it in a minimalist way, and still have a comfortable setup, that's cool, man! Hey, I'd not use super glue the next time you do your repair, instead I'd use some 2 part epoxy that won't come apart. Anyhow, looking forward to seeing some of your earlier videos. Have a good one!

I enjoy watching multiple night camp outs.
You made me laugh when your boots were frozen as it happened to me years back; however I had an extra pair of shoes (slippers) as that is always a must. Was able to get a fire going to thaw out the boots.
You should have used your pan to clear the snow out from the lean to vice the stick which took longer and much more energy.
    Your doing well.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge, adventure, and thoughts about how to solve problems with what you have. I understand not having a lot of money or equipment, but its about enjoying the whole experience and money doesn't matter when you are willing to work with what you have instead of worrying about not having what others may have or think you should have. I have learned so much from watching this episode. First time finding your channel and I just subscribed. Really want to tell you about the awesome job you do filming and editing your adventures. I've watched a few different episodes of other people's winter camping trips and they don't even begin to be as genuine as yours even though they have the best of everything. Keep plugging along the viewership will catch up. I will share this channel with friends and family. If you don't have a power box maybe you can ask a friend or family member to use their's, until you are in a better position financially. People seem to have the best intentions of trying to help you out with donated equipment and or costs associated with your great exploits that you share with the world. Myself I have become 100 percent disabled a few years ago and no longer can do this sort of things and I live vicariously through your videos. Again thanks and best of health, wealth and spiritual support from myself and family. Keep plugging along doing your thing l see the channel subscribers exploding this year for you.

I have to applaud the effort you made to produce this video. Also, as a tribute to Mother’s Day, I will go ahead and take on the roll of “Worst Mother Ever to Take Along Camping”.
1.) The super glued knife just … just NO. Drop in in the nearest river, ocean or cesspool. That thing is going to hurt you. It only takes one slip for a day of camping to turn into the worst day ever in the woods. I know what it means to be on a tight budget, but, I have found very nice knives in the local thrift stores that only needed a bit of TLC to be fully functional again. My best kitchen knife cost a whole 75 cents.
2.) When camping, you have invaded the home of other critters. Not sure where you were, but I assume either Canada or Northern United States. Mostly they are nocturnal, but, some visitors probably called on you without you even knowing it. The last thing you want to do is wake up to, a bob cat, cougar, bear, badger, raccoon or even a skunk sorting through the plastic bags in your shelter looking for the tasty snack it smells. Nor will you want to be between whatever critter and it’s menu choice. Keep your food policed up, put it in a sealed bag, hang it from a tree. Don’t go to sleep with dirty dishes emanating inviting lingering scents in your camp.
3.) Do you have a first aid kit?
4.) Do you know when you are on the edge of hypothermia? Confusion is one of the early signs, and bad decisions can come of that confusion.
5.) We are a society mostly separated from the natural world. We have to re-learn these things. Take the time to learn from those who really know and have the credentials to prove it.
Our friends will always tell us we are are awesome and wonderful. But, that won’t keep us alive when the chips are down. I’ll have to admit, I was worried about you after the first demonstration of the sawing skills.

Enjoyed the video! Glad to see you deal with the elements! You need to invest in snow shoes bro. You could also use them for shoveling if you don't want to buy a light shovel. Also, you need better boots and non-cotton synthetic clothing. Water and coldness is a dangerous combo.

I hear you. It’s a shame. Equipment costs money. I have a fifteen-year old son who earned $350 one weekend shoveling snow. He didn’t even work half the day. He used the money to buy better equipment and he’s making more money. You are a hard worker and have skills. Have you ever thought about getting a short job? The equipment we’re talking about isn’t all that much money. In fact, you may be able to find some used stuff if you’re hurting that bad. Besides, you have plenty of time to work if you have time to spend days and nights sleeping in the woods.@@EscapeAdventures

Great videos I'm new at this as well but brother better equipment needed . Can't use Mora basic or craftline for batoning. They are crafting knives . Your boots not the best to have leather in winter. They have thinsulate water proofed and up to - 40 and -50 ones as well . Your saws I would invest in silky saws the big boy 2000 professional is awesome and the gomboy is awesome with these 2 you won't struggle. Your clothes under armor long johns and fjallraven bush craft pants or bill bill merino wool pants are awesome I found. Keep going your doing well just need some upgrades brother it will help.

you have a habit of pouring water into your cup while it is on your fire taking a risk of stumbling and pouring it on your fire or the cup tipping and the fire is out and water lost what if it took you an hour to get your fire going because everything was damp and it was the last of your water and you spill it on your fire and put it out so pour your water in the cup first then put it over your fire it takes no longer and you have less chance of losing your water or fire.and put warm rocks in your boots at night and put your socks in the bottom of your sleeping bag.
