What's In My Bag on Vacation: Wotancraft Pilot 7L

- Last month I was away on short vacation, and Camera Girl helped me shoot a quick video on her iPhone 12 on what gear I brought up with me. I often bring review gear with me, but this time I decided to just relax and keep it simple (at least for me).
The main bag I brought was the compact Wotancraft 7L Pilot. I know many would want the larger 10L, but the 7L is perfect as an every day carry bag, especially for vacation. I can easily carry 3 compact cameras with me, or 1 large camera and a couple of lenses. At the end of the video I have a bonus look at how I pack my Chrome Ziptop WaistPack while on vacation. Cordura is a family of fabrics. What is used in your bag was not around in WW2, probably first used in the early 80s.

@@bigheadtaco You're very welcome, I first became aware of this 1000D material with military bergen bags. It's great stuff though you generally see a move to lighter fabrics now.
The BEST bag in the world (for me 10L) - I love it !
I would have definitely picked the 10L, but since I also had the Lightning Rider 12L, I didn’t want two bags too close in size. The 7L is a great vacation bag, but when I’m out shooting seriously, it’s the Lightning Rider, although the 10L Pilot would be a better dedicated camera bag.

all the batteries + sd cards + charger for camera and charger for flash (with a cordless plug that fits on each)
I normally bring 56 1.2 also, but think I won't now that I'm travelling with a baby (I just think it won't come up as much)
All fits in my Billingham Hadley along with my Asus Rog G14 that I leave in my hotel room.
A military green version would be great and also if the plastic parts were metal instead this would be a perfect bag. Still a cool bag but those two updates would be amazing.

@@bigheadtaco I love the Wotancraft 7L Pilot but I got the Think Tank Retrospective 7M version 2. For my EDC I always have the Litra Torch 2, a MULTI-TOOL GANZO G301B (It's ok), a Nitecore MH12S flashlight and a Spyderco Delica 4. For travel camera I got the Sony A6600 and the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8. But the truth is that the Pilot bag is beautiful and more funcional.
17-28mm f/2.8 sounds like a fun lens on the A6600……

Ya, I can’t wait to finish the roll. I’ve only used it when I’m out with my wife, and she’s a bit camera shy so it’s taking longer than expected :-)

Do find dirt and junk get in the bag from the top when its closed . a really cool looking bag , been looking for something small to take out on small hikes

So I’m here to find out more about the 7L bag. I have plenty of camera bags, I want the Brompton bag version of this but there is a dearth of information on the Brompton bike bag options.
I’m glad I watched this, I don’t remember that Minolta 110 SLR, the 110’s I had back in the day were cheap crappy plastic things but for good reason :-)
I think I’ll go with the 7L, it has plenty of room for what I intend to carry.
I use this bag in a Brompton version one, I say it is worth it. It looks really nice when it is on my Brompton.
@@zinenarak oh wow, I actually ordered the 7L Brompton bag just before the Chinese New Year (I remember because of the shipping delay). It arrived quite fast after the New Year. We had a few days of excellent weather here in the Northeast (it’s Winter) and I was able to ride the bike with the bag, carrying my ham radio gear, made a bunch of contacts into Europe from the Atlantic shore here in NH.
The bag is excellent.
Use gaffer tape to tape the waist bag to your Pilot bag then you are fully equipped for any situation you may encounter. As you mentioned you never know how handy an extra back-up multi-tool can be on your vacation especially when sitting down to eat. And it is always wise to carry tertiary and backup cameras to your initial back up and emergency edc cameras. Always.
You can never have too much gaffer tape.... or too many cameras I guess.... does my iPhone and iPad cameras count as back-ups?
Great review . Do you think the SL WITH 24-90 also another SL fixed lens fit good ? With the Q also or ether .

The SL with 24-90 might fit sideways with no dividers, but you won’t be able to fit another lens. You will need to move up to the 10L version
@@bigheadtaco Cool thank you so much this size also look great! maybe need to end up with both hahaha .. 7L is the size just so look great on sizing ... 8" height / 20cm body with lens maybe can be closed bit the bag won't look as nice so probably need to do sideway as you said... :) PS. seems to be able to carry more stuff than the Domke F-3X lengthwise about the same I think but with the 7L the bag has a bigger middle session that makes it work so great :-D
I have an S(007) with an S30-90mm zoom attached and a S 24mm extra fitting in this bag with two batteries and a charger.
@@jackmacdonough8728 Wowww amazing I was thinking of that also for a day bag. So you put the body sideways and another lens next to it in the bag? then sunglasses or charger on the outter pocket right? Or if vertical will the flap close properly? to be sure it's the 7L we are talking about? :-)

@@bigheadtaco indeed, we found Whistler very relaxing. I went with an Olympus xa2 and Kodak gold 200. It came out amazing. I'm really impressed by London drug's 24mp scans. I usually shoot b&w and develop + scan at home
@@markhou sometimes it's good to just let someone else do the scanning :-) Sometimes if I want a really nice print I'll rescan myself at home with my mirrorless camera and macro lens. In general for 4x6 prints and sharing on socials, a standard JPEG scan is good enough :-)

Any chance a 12.9 ipad could be put in there?
In the back slot for sure, since my 13”MBA M1 fits easily. But in the front pocket, unless I had one to test, I don’t know. If you DM Wotancraft on Instagram or email them, they would probably test it for you
I am not sure if the pilot is build for riding in a downpour. I got the bicycle mount version and was riding in a rain. Pouring rain I mean. The inside got damp. So if you plan to buy this for such scenario you will regret. Your camera equipment will get wet inside.
