    Love to see something on the 352! When I was 15, I inherited the family wagon with one of these engines! I have to say that the abuse that thing took from me was incredible! After an encounter with a deer, the wagon and the 352 was gone and only now after 50 years and lots of Windsor’s and cars do I look back and think, why didn’t I give the old FE more love!

    Super informative video. I have never built an FE more than an overhaul but I have a good running 360 truck motor sitting on the floor of my shop and I have been toying with some ideas. It is bored 40 over so I’m guessing (haven’t opened it yet) a 60 over would be the order of the day. I am a bit intrigued with the idea of 360 pistons with a 390 crank but nothing decided yet. It would be for a truck application. Anyway, love the videos, sir. Good info.

    I had a 428 PI engine I built for my 65 Galaxie in the late 70s. One thing I noticed on the intake (cast iron) was it's provision to accept a quadrajet carb if the intake was machined for it. The cast part was there. Have you noticed that before? That was in 68! I quadrajet gasket fits perfectly on the intake. Makes one wonder what they were thinking.

    A bit in the hole in terms of factory hp from your 352 but there's plenty of power available. One example is the 1960 HiPo 352 ..made 360hp @6000 rpm and 355 lbft. @3200 w/4V.
    Man I really like those Blue Thunder intakes, top quality! I had a dual quad on my 1968 429 engine w/solid cam.. In my 1940 Ford Coupe ..was wicked fast!

    If you use the companion cylinder method for adjusting the valves you won’t have to turn the engine so much. It works on any 4 stroke engine 1542

    1 and 6 both pistons are at the top
    When one is firing the other is on overlap and vise versa. Then 5 and 3, 4 and 7, 2 and 8. Simple. 👍
    I like your videos! Great work!

    The feeler gauge should have a light drag and NOT a tight fit.

    Love your content ! Been a Ford guy for ever. I have a question for you. Years ago I was going to build a poor man 427. I had a center oiler block, 390 crank, and the heads that had freeze plugs in the ends and a machined combustion chamber. Never could find out what these heads were. Do you know?

    I must have missed the model # for that intake. Looking on Blue Thunder’s website, I see they have several versions of a 8v intake. There's a 427 and a 428 and both a medium riser. I presume you are using the 428 version?

    Question, is it possible to shim rocker arms on the shaft to get more clearance for pushrods? That intake manifold is sweet. Thanks for the video. ❤️FE.

    • @lykinsmotorsports
      @lykinsmotorsports  3 роки тому +3

      Sure can. As long as you still have full contact from the rocker tip across the valve tip.

    Anything over 6000 you will blow the block apart. The are high out put at low rpm. With the exception of the 427

      @lykinsmotorsports  2 роки тому

      Blow the block apart? Who says? Watch the other videos I have. This engine went to 7500 repeatedly. I also have a 390 in another video going to 7500. No issues if they're set up right.

    I have a 390 with a 428 crank and the pistons are 21 thousands out of the cylinders, the pistons are cut .10 and valve reliefs are recut, I'm currently running MLS 61 thousands head gaskets, you think I can get by with just a normal 41 thousands head gaskets to bump my compression.

    What’s the highest cube limit for any FE? Like a 428 CJ stroker for example

    • @lykinsmotorsports
      @lykinsmotorsports  3 роки тому +3

      A 4.250" stroke is the longest stroke off the shelf right now. I can have some 4.375" and 4.400" stroke cranks made. A 390 will go about 445-450 cubes with off the shelf cranks. A 428 will go to 460-462. A 427 can go to 482-489. Aftermarket blocks with aftermarket cranks can go to around 530 cubes.

    • @kevind3185
      @kevind3185 3 роки тому +2

      If I remember correctly a 428 crank in a 427 block will make 454 ci or so.

    This question is going to sound more judgmental that I mean, but why would bother with a 352? Just to keep original numbers?
    My understanding is they are actually heavier than the later 390s

    • @lykinsmotorsports
      @lykinsmotorsports  2 роки тому +2

      If they are heavier, it would be because of the 4" factory bore compared to the 4.050" bore of a 390. Basically negligible. The reason I did a 352 was because: 1. No one builds high performance 352's. 2. You learn a lot when you push the envelope of engines that were not designed to make big horsepower. I made over 100 hp more out of this 352 than what 427's were making back in the 60's.

    • @ibast1
      @ibast1 2 роки тому

      @@lykinsmotorsports My understanding is that Ford got further down the track with thin wall casting techniques after the 352. The 221 and 260 are heavier than the 289/302 for the same reason.
      This is why the 302/5.0 is so much lighter than the chevy small block. Chevy didn't see it as necessary.

    • @lykinsmotorsports
      @lykinsmotorsports  2 роки тому +1

      5.0’s are different than older 302’s. But that doesn’t apply at all to FEs.
