I understand why you want to avoid the insurance co and a professional auto body shop. You can get this fixed for a fraction of the cost if you use a mobile auto body tech. Check out uni-spotter or paintless repair. Take off that fender yourself to save more. Looking forward to further updates. Best wishes.
Yeah, you report it to your insurance company even if you're not making a claim. That way they have a record and often times they can get the vehicle fixed and then pursue the responsible party for damages. I did that when a guy backed into me and my insurance company said they'd pony up so the car could get fixed ASAP until they handled the paperwork with the other person's insurance.
I'm in MN - I was rear-ended last fall (August). In my case the driver did have insurance, but in MN we have 'no-fault' requirement - each insurance company is required to provide $20K of medical and $20K of non-medical coverage. In the event that you're hit by someone who does not have coverage, your policy is required to cover it. Thankful - because my Harley had $10K worth of damages - all covered - looks good as new. As soon as the snow and salt are gone I'll be back out there!
Big mistake not waiting for the proper authorities to get her ticketed at fault hitting you from the rear (the person hitting someone from the rear is always at fault) and an official accident report filed, now you have no definite undeniable proof of her at fault and no official accident report filed so now giving the other vehicles insurance company yet another out besides just an unauthorized non licensed driver, and giving her an out from un licensed uninsured financial responsibility court ruling for her to make payment or payments herself to you. Iam afraid you my friend are screwed.
Well if the truck belongs to her fiance then he should be the one cutting the check since he allowed her to operate the vehicle knowing she does not have a license. Don't mess around with the insurance not reporting an accident can come back to bite you in the ass later.
Still feel bad for ya! Seems like good guys always take a screwing. The only good thing to come out of this deal is you didn't get hurt. And who knows! Maybe she will pay? Even if it's a few bucks every week. Best wishes to ya! And be safe!
You did EVERYTHING wrong my friend. You needed to wait for the proper law Enforcement department to arrive and issue the ticket and police report. Also you needed to contact your insurance company ASAP and let THEM go after her. Also, you should have been taken to the hospital at the scene in case you received back or neck injury’s that may show up later. (Trust me on this one). Actually you did a great disservice to the rest of the community by letting her off the hook, she is still on the loose with no drivers license or insurance and can cause serious harm and financial loss to others just like she did to YOU! All she has to do is run back over the boarder walk away from any responsibilities! What the hell is wrong with you man?? Use your head and at least look out for the rest of us, actually I blame you more then her!
I can't speak for everywhere, but here (Indiana) you have to specifically decline uninsured motorist coverage when you get an auto policy, which is different than comprehensive. My insurance company offers it and has no deductible, and it's around $10 a month. Stupid not to have it. Once you make a claim under the UM part of your policy, they fix your stuff and then they deal w/ the driver. In my case they went after the person who hit me for everything. You're nicer than me.. that chick would have been walking home with her tickets. The next person she hits may not be as lucky as you were.
Your insurance will sue hers . You pay for uninsured motorist . Same thing as no license . The owner knowingly let her drive the car there for they r liable .
Maybe give them a call to see. The longer it draws out it might not end well for ya. Since that vehicle did have ins, just not the proper driver, if it comes to it get a lawsuit agaisnt the guy. Your to nice of a guy to be done wrong.

Thanks for the info.
If you don't report it to your insurance they can deny future claims because you had previous damage.

I kinda knew that from the start, but we will see what happens.

If your insurance pays for it, they will normally take her to court for it. If they do pursue it, then they should give you back your deductible.
