Yanks offered 760 mil over 16 years. As a Yankee fan, he had his best year thanks in part to yankee stadium and judge behind him. I believe he wont have another awesome season like that again. I feel its a blessing to save that money due to the length.

ngl... that's actually great for the Yankees. +700M would be better spent on building around Judge. signing only Soto for that astronomical amount would've been a noose on the neck for the franchise.
also, I think Dodgers, RedSox and Yankees upped Soto's price to pin that amount on the Mets, just my tinfoil hat theory. Mets were the frontrunner the whole time he was a free agent, the Dodgers weren't gonna pay Soto that amount only for hitting.

he's a gen hitter but unless he has a transcendent production like Judge, in the long run it's going to a huge load for the last 10 years of his contract. Mets are gonna be crying

At one point it sucks. But at another we already have a half dozen guys on long contracts for high dollar annual values. Its kinda nice to not have another - albeit a supremely talented player .. but 3 quarters of s billion dollars is a ton of money to tie up in one guy. Even a 26 year old stud. Especially when we already proved we couldn't win with him as our team is comprised currently. Which means we'd need to spend a ton more on yet more star level players if we want to win a WS.

  • @timothytaylor5871

Absolutely stupid how these contracts skyrocket. It wasn't that long ago that Kevin brown signed that 7 yr/105 million that seemed so crazy. In 20 years we'll see contracts at 8 years/1.3 billion.
Kevin Brown signed that contract 26 years ago this week. Do the math. 15 mil a year seems like peanuts now. How big does the bubble get before it pops? At this rate in 26 years it'll be 150 million a year. A mil per game is not far off. Soto will make more than 300k PER GAME, and when he's a glorified DH that'll break down to an average of 75k PER AT BAT
