Open a tutorial. It pauses the game.
You go to systems menu, then exit game. That's how you pause.
Literally the solution. I do this all the time.
Just click tips when you go to menu select help then tips and it pauses the game

You can press system and quit the game, it automatically saves all your progress and when you come back, you're right at the same spot where you left.
The problem is every time fromsoft releases a game, everyone and their mother thinks they have some kind of say as to how these games should be made.
This is a product made by artists executing a vision. It's not a democracy, you do not get a say as to which features it will or will not have.
If you can not play a game without a pause menu, then sorry-- you shouldn't play this game.
Regardless, this is a non issue. Just quit the game and it saves your location immediately.

Bro why is everyone making excuses it’s a single player game there is a workaround already to pause the game. Just make it so if you’re playing offline if you press pause everything stops, it’s not that hard, it doesn’t make the game easier relax

@@Kvothe4it’s a design choice that is present in all from software titles. It’s just how they make games. To pause the game you rest at a grave or bonfire that’s how it’s been for over a decade
These games are amazing because they are made by a team of artists who don't have to make concessions so that it appeals to everyone. This is why modern ubisoft, Bethesda, and Activision games Are soulless trash. Because these companies have been reacting to people like you who make demands for their development.
You are not an expert in game development, and more importantly, you are not a developer from fromsoft. You either take the game as it is, or don't play it.
I pray to God that all these people complaining (who most likely don't even play these games anyway) don't influence fromsoft to change their design philosophy. Because then we will just get more "made for everyone" slop.
I only would like a pause because i have kids and pets and sonetimes things happen when you REALLY need to step away quickly

A pause feature isn't going to throw off the balance of the game nor the "artistic vision" people claim it has because if it did then they would've patched out the feature in the first handful of updates for the game

Elden Ring cannot be paused. All the from software games don't pause when in menus
There is a way to pause the game it's not a traditional pause feture, but look it up, it does infact exist.
Opening the map pauses the game but can not be done whilst in combat.
If you open the menu and go to help, click combat tips or whatever it's called. That pauses the game.
Or yknow just don't start a boss while you're on a time crunch.
Almost every From Software game has a pause menu except for a small handful of Dark Souls games what are you on about

Because you can't pause an invasion. Also it adds to the oppressive nature the games are trying to give off. It's a deliberate choice to make players mindful of where they are when they go into menus.
If it's a true emergency then what's happening on a videogame shouldn't matter. Everything else is just an inconvenience that can be easily circumvented by taking 5 seconds to backtrack to somewhere you already cleared out and crouching in a corner.
If it's a boss fight then i feel for you homie but thems the breaks. If whatever it is can't wait the 2-5 minutes it takes to fight the average boss then i don't know how you have time to play videogames in the first place.

The game has plenty of areas to just put your character in a spot and he won’t get harmed and also if you’re in the middle of a boss fight just exit out or die. Why do you get to pause the game and keep all your progress that kind of defeats the point of, the souls boss fights

Fromsoft games are easy, you're not dunking on anyone just asking for a qol feature. My brother has kids and if he wants to hop on Xbox during their nap pausing doesn't make the game easier, it makes being able to go grab his kid easier. He's gonna drop the controller no matter what, but it would be cool if the game wasn't punishing him for being a good parent.
