The reason for the Empire not having the Duke is the Duke is essentially a grail knight who has drank from the ladies grail and are now functionally super human.
That being said I think they made the Grand Master way too expensive for what you get. He's 145pts and you are still forced to pay for at a minimum 16pts for a warhorse. So he's 160 pts for that basic package.
I feel like characters across the board a little pricey, but Empire's especially feel 15-20% over costed

Hochland long rifle on a master engineer sounds like a great way to pick off wizards who aren't in a unit, or scare them into joining a unit which makes them arguably even more vulnerable

Pretty sure pistoliers and outriders can be open order if you don’t want to skirmish them. However the impetuous on the pistols makes them pretty useless for their intended role

Carroburg is on the border of Middenland. The equivalent for the HRE would probably be closer to the Rhineland Valley. Helmgart is "Alsace-Lorraine".
I think you might be underestimating the Witch Hunter. I think it's going to be very common to keep your wizards outside of units in TOW. So you can take Suffer not the witch, put him on a pegasus with brace of pistols, his mount gets both his hatred and killing blow special rules. So you have 5 attacks with hatred and killing blow on a fly 10 single model chasing after those pesky wizards. Not to mention you can use him to march block as well as disrupt enemy units with first charge.

Except you can't shoot with marching anymore, even "quick to shoot" weapons.
Really great deep dive review. Always interestibg to hear what other folks think is good and what is not. Great swords for example are one my heart says will be great but a review like this puts it back in perspective! Thanks!

It's funny that one of the best, if not the best combat combo in the game is a wizard. Slap him on a griffin with a mace of Helstrom and away you go. Agreed the Runefang is over costed.
It’s one way to try and kill the 650 odd point Chaos lord on a dragon too. I suspect Spectral Dopelganger may get errataed at some point to prevent it but currently it’s very powerful.

Great review, thanks guys. About the brace of pistols on the characters I disagree though. Every stand & shoot they will have -2 to hit for stand & shoot and multishots, that will do not a lot even with BS 5 or am I missing something? Doesn't seem to be worth 10 points to me. And the captain with the dragon bow does most of the damage with the ruby ring and not with the shooting weapons because this ite is just an auto take. On the Veteran Spearmen Anvil of 30 guys I highly agree, awesoe with a priest of Sigmar, in that case I see the WS 4 for veteran mostly as a defensive buff being hit less. I know the grandmaster on demigryphon in spearmen is crazy good but I just won't do it since it looks silly. For crossbow vs handguns I highly lean towards crossbows, for same points they would be even for me but since handguns are 1 point more I like them less. Crossbows with a hochland and handguns with a repeater rifle are both good but I highly recommend using missile troops as detachments, in which case they can't take a Sergeant unfortunately, so no special weapons there.
About Greatswords, I think 20 with drilled that march up in marching column and then change to 10x 2 or 7 x 3 formation or even one big rank as linehammer could be pretty good.
@@michaelfechir5581 I might be wrong, but if you go up the table in column at four wide, I think you can only change your frontage by 5 with a redress, so you'd need to be hanging around under fire or getting charged to go any wider i think? I might be missing something though?

You're wrong about Pistoliers and Outriders not being useful for redirecting because they're skirmishers. They're both skirmish AND OPEN ORDER. You get to choose.
I’m pretty sure I mentioned you can switch between it so you can keep the Pistoliers in check but their movement is still limited since fast cav isn’t like it used to be :(

Alot of talk about characters with knights, dont forget you loose countercharge if not all models in the unit got it....
the barded warhorse comes with counter charge so not a real issue there.

Got a question, the laurels of victory specifies that the berarer would double the CR . If the mount does damage then i think it shouldnt apply to the mount's attacks when calculating CR
Possibly, it does say bearer
I think it would apply to the mount as well in OW since the rulebook says special rules apply to both. Magic armour on a character applies to it’s mount now too.
Problem with putting the Sigmar Warrior Priest in with Inner Circle Knights is that they get re-roll 1s to hit built in so you get diminished returns with them, they may give more bang for your buck in regular Knights or buffing Demigryphs. I just think the Empire characters are just either over-pointed or undercooked aside from the Wizards who are just cheap.Its a 50/50 to get a prayer cast on a regular WP and you can only cast one prayer on the Lector which is again - weak sauce. GW should either buff the prayers or improve the leadership of the priests and give a 5pt magic item for a one use prayer re-roll same as with Chaos and Gaze of the Gods.
57:00 Are you certain that the MR pf the War Altar and the Priests stack? I would believe it is only MR 2 by the War Altar (p.108 of the rulebook).
Are you referring to MR stacking with Witch Bane? Witch Bane isn't MR so the casting debuff would stack
@@oldworldfanatics Many thanks for the reply. Indeed, Witch Bane would stack. Maybe I misheard because I understood that ASB was referring to the MR of tbe War Altar+Witch Bane+the MR of the Priest riding it all stacking up to -5. While I agree on War Altar (2) plus Witch Bane (2), I was not certain on the MR of the Priest also stacking on top.

@@marcela8769 I think it needs an FAQ, it says it is not cumulative, but then says if two or more models have it it does not stack, and this is one model, but personally i suspect the rule as intended is that it does not stack, but as written you can kind of make a case for it
@1:34:30: I think the Veteran special rule is not transferred to the detachments as detachments are separate units on their own and p.283 only lists Frenzy, Hatred, Immune to Psychology and Stubborn as special rules that transfer to detachments whilst within 3“.
@1:42:20: It was clarified in the FAQs that you cannot make the Vanguard move if you deployed via Scout. But it was indeed unclear in RAW.
Empire is a little bit overpriced. Especially the Lector with Ld 8 and a war altar is an extremely easy target and very weak. At the very least give him Ld 9 so he can function as an Ld booster for the army.
