286 Ashtanga Yoga Brahmacharya Part V

Synopsis of lesson 286:
Brahmacharya:
Because of the formidable power of Kaama Vaasana violation or Abrahmacharya may happen. Kaama can make a human beastly and inhuman.
Manusmrti: Never leave a mother, sister or daughter with someone of the opposite sex.
On the other hand there can be the power of Brahmacharya as related in the story of Amogha Veerya.
Story of Rama Laxman and Sita. When Sita was abducted, and they searched for her, they found the ornaments of Sita strewn around. When Rama asked if Laxman’s mother recognised the ornaments, he said he could only recognise only the ornaments of the feet because that is where he looked whenever he spoke to her.
Kaama and Krodha should not be suppressed. Cannot be totally banished either.
So, the two measures for them are, 1. To follow the Purushartha of Kaama as permissible in the scheme of Purusharthas given by Sanatana Dharma. Kaama must be followed in the path of Dharma.
One of the Samskars is Garbhadaana, to give the semen into the womb of your spouse. It must be done at a particular time and day following particular ritual. The man and woman become Sahadharmacharis. They share the relation of Maatrutva and Pitrutva. The example is of Laxmi- Narayana.
Prajananam. Pra, the prefix comes from Prakarshit.
This Dharma is given by the Rishi Paramparaa. Thus, such Kaama can become a virtue and Punyam.
Daiviaachara.
2. Kaama asana cannot be suppressed. But there can be Udattikaranam or sublimation.
Golden mean for Brahmacharya of a Grahasthi is different,
Brahmacharya of the youth is different,
Brahmacharya of a man with progeny is different. So, Swadharma can differ depending on one’s status, qualifications etc in life. This is Vaasana Daivikaranam.
Vairagya and Udattikaranam of Vairagya can tame the Vaasanas.
Various measures can be taken. Path of Dharma, Paramartha and Yoga have to take more care. Satsanga, Sadhana sanga, Shastra sanga will help.
Neo Adhyatma says be good, just drive away the negative and life will be simple, but it needs a lot of Tapas and Sadhana.neo spiritualism is brainwashing the modern mind. But Kathopanishad says, be alert, walk on the edge of the blade!
Like an ocean the quest is boundless.
Kaama cannot be satisfied by Kaama. Gratification cannot overcome passion. Philosophise the instincts.
Bhagwat Dharma - sublimate tendencies and instincts. One should relate oneself to Bhagwan and all the Kaama, Krodha, Bhaya etc., will vaporise. One will become Bhagwanmaya, Tanmaya.
Sublimation of tendencies is the message of spiritual sciences.
Saint of Maharashtra declared, the body is the shrine of divinity.
