  • In this video, we will talk about 14 human foods that are toxic to your dog.
    Xylitol
Xylitol is an artificial sweetener found in many sugar-free products. It is extremely poisonous to dogs, and can be found in many products such as candies, chewing gums, baked goods, protein bars, toothpaste, and some peanut butters.
    Chocolate
Chocolate is a delicious treat for humans, but it is toxic to dogs because it contains a substance called theobromine.
    Ice cream
Although it may be tempting to share your cone with your furry friend, it’s best to avoid giving ice cream to dogs.
The first problem with ice cream is that some adult dogs are lactose intolerant to varying degrees, which prevents them from properly digesting milk products. Puppies have an enzyme called lactase, the function of which is to break down the lactose from their mother’s milk. After they are weaned however, their bodies produce less lactase. So if you feed them milk products, they may experience anything from mild to severe gastrointestinal discomfort - diarrhea, loose stools, vomiting, stomach pain, or gas.
Another problem with ice cream is that it is loaded with sugar, and feeding your dog sugary foods can lead to weight gain and obesity, which can cause a slew of health problems.
Keep in mind that some ice-cream contains toppings or ingredients, such as chocolate and xylitol, that are very toxic to dogs.
    Salt
Most human food contains too much salt that isn’t recommended for dogs.
Eating too much salt can lead to a condition known as salt poisoning. It causes water deprivation in pets and leads to symptoms like vomiting, fever, diarrhea, excessive thirst, and tremors.
Clinical findings suggest that a medium dog weighing 33 pounds only needs 200 milligrams of sodium per day.
    Caffeine
Any beverage that contains a hint of caffeine is a big no-no for your dog.
Caffeine over-stimulates a dog’s nervous system. It causes their heart rate to increase to a dangerous level, and their blood pressure skyrocket. It can also cause vomiting, seizures and even death.
    Grapes and Raisins.
Dogs should never eat grapes and raisins. These fruits are known to be extremely toxic to dogs.
Grape products such as grape juice, grape jam and even baked goods with raisins should also be avoided.
    Onion and Garlic
Humans may love the flavors of garlic and onion to spice up their food, but giving these vegetables to your pet can cause serious health problems. In severe cases, it could even kill your dog.
Garlic and onions contain a harmful substance that can damage your dog’s red blood cells, making them unable to carry oxygen through the body.
    Macadamia Nuts
Macadamia nuts are very toxic to dogs. These nuts are often found in baked goods, cakes, cookies, muffins, and even trail mix. Make sure to keep these foods away from your pet.
    Cooked bones
Many vets believe it just isn’t worth the risk of serious injuries to give your dog a bone. Bones can splinter and block or cause cuts in your dog's digestive system. Your dog could even break a tooth, get a tongue or mouth injury, or cause an obstruction that could require surgery.
    Avocados
Avocados contain a toxic substance called persin, which is perfectly safe for human, but can cause serious health problems - even death - in many animals.
Persin is found in avocado fruit, leaves, pits, and the actual plant, so all of these parts are potentially poisonous to your canine.
    Alcohol
We all love our canine companions and none of us would ever think about getting them drunk. However, accidents can happen. And alcohol exists in many products we wouldn’t realize, such as mouth wash, perfume, cleaning products, and hand sanitizers. Make sure to keep them out of reach. Even the smallest amount of alcohol - not only in drinks but also in cough syrups, medications, and raw bread dough - are poisonous to dogs.
    Bacon
Unfortunately, ham and bacon aren’t good for dogs.
Bacon is an incredibly fatty food with a high salt content, which can prove to be too much for a dog’s stomach to handle. Ham also has a dangerously high salt content.
In fact, all processed pork meats are unsafe for your dog. These products contain a significant amount of salt and added spices which are bad for your dog's stomach
    Hotdogs
Many hotdogs contain ingredients that are not good for dogs, such as sugars, artificial sweeteners, or sodium nitrate which has been linked to cancer. Hotdogs also contain seasonings, such as onion powder and garlic, which are toxic to dogs.
    Apple Seeds
Apple is good for dogs, but keep the seeds far, far away from your precious dog: the seeds contain a small amount of cyanide, a toxin, which can harm your dog in large doses.
    Raw Yeast Dough
When a dog eats bread dough, the yeast in that dough can expand in your dog’s belly and cause a lot of pain and bloating. This can cause a dog’s stomach to twist, which can turn into a medical emergency.

Had a dog eat a chocolate bar, got sick, lived to be 19. I gave dogs bacon, ham, chicken, beef, turkey, cereal milk and hot dogs. My vet said, just don't give them too much of them.

It’s amazing dogs survived thousands of years eating our scraps until the 1950’s when someone decided they needed their own food!! Genius marketing almost as good as the guy that sold DEF to the EPA as a safe alternative. 😂🤣😂

Growing up our dogs would eat the leftovers of what we ate and they grew to be over 18+ years. What's going on with today's dogs????

I make my dog's food about once a week, I cook 5.5 lbs of low fat hamburger and add brown rice, veggies and a little fruit. I also add beef broth, PLEASE if you use beef or chicken broth make sure to use SALT FREE broth. Regular Chicken broth contains over 800 mg's of salt so if you LOVE your dog, read labels. You are responsible for making sure they live a long happy and healthy life.

Well this sure was timely... My dog was just sick this morning, and now I'm wandering if it was one of these. Guess I'm sticking to dog friendly food from now on(no caving into my dog's 'puppy eyes'). Thanks for this!
