    Well done. I enjoy watching our videos. Just a note. You mention in your prologue that there is a risk of the belt breaking if it's not replaced frequently. In my 40 years as a mechanic, I have never seen a serpentine belt break under normal operation. I've seen them brittle with cracks every 3mm on every rib all around, and even sections of ribs missing, but never come across one that severed under normal operation. As far a strength goes, serpentine belts are over-engineered, but they should be changed once the ribs start to get brittle, or if the tensioner position indicates excessive stretch. I completely concur with your "piece of mind" maintenance approach.

      Cheers D Jansen. To be honest I’ve not come across a serpentine belt that failed without another failing component being the primary cause either. Age of the car/belt and climate the car lives could contribute to belt failing eventually either through stretch, or loss of ribs, given enough time. Thanks for sharing, and checking out the video

      I'm a couple years late, but I used to work for Citroen, and have seen multiple serpentine belts fail because of the tensioner failing, with the engine then proceeding to suck said serpentine belt into the timing belt, fucking up the timing and snapping 16 lifters.
      That is of course a Citroen though.

    Great video man. I found oil mixed with my coolant this week, I'm hoping it's just my oil cooler gasket or oil filter housing gasket.

      Thanks for checking out the video man. Could be the cooler itself that’s failed too

    When I changed the belt and tensioner on my 130i, I had no idler pulley. Apparently this has been reported on some n52s. I still used the same belt as you (6PK1990) and it fitted fine, but it was definitely confusing me for a good 20 minutes while I searched for an idler that didn’t exist. Is this something that you’ve heard of?

    Are belt ribs on inside or outside?

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  6 місяців тому

      Depends on which pulley it’s going around. Take a look at the existing one before you change it out

    Yo man I’m having a few codes popping up every few days or even weeks. On my e60 M5 the codes are p0171, p0174 and p2180. I did a diagnostic test with my scanner and it had a 02 sensor fault but it went away. The car has a rough idle on cold starts but when warm it runs fine no misfires or stalling. Would this be a vacuum leak or the 02 sensors or what do you recommend me looking at

    • @damojan
      @damojan 2 роки тому +1

      Not my channel, but O2 sensors are non-functional until the car goes into close loop. Engine temperature is a closed loop factor, among others. So, vacuum leak is more likely

      @@damojan noted thx, so it seems p0171 is the first code popping up the other 2 went away and the code starting to come up ever day. I should do a smoke test

    Hi M-tec Guy. Watched a brake flush of yours few weeks ago that disappeared - piano music background I think - anyway, is there a reason why you got the car up on the 4 stands first? Only got two and was gonna do rears first then the front.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, I pulled the video with the BS music, I wasn’t happy with it to be honest, wasn’t my style. I will re-upload the video with a proper narration and no background music soon. I’ve done front then rear before no problem, or just one corner at a time. I put it up on four axle stands this time just to get all the jacking and wheels off out of the way, made for a cleaner process for the sake of the video

      @@MTechGuy Nothing wrong with trying new styles. Some work, some don't, but it's the info in your videos that matters. Thanks for your time and trouble of reply.
