- Recently, REWA has got feedback from a number of third-party repair shops that some iPhone 8 series and iPhone X have got "ambient light sensor not working issue" after repairing even with genuine parts. After testing and analysis, REWA LAB has found that Apple might have set up some technical barriers for repairing to prevent customers from resorting to third-party repair.Let's check the video and find out the testing procedures and results.

Can you imagine a car manufacture doing something like this? Forbidding your parts manufacturers from selling repair parts. Imbedding unique keys in your parts so that only the manufacture can do the work. We would not stand for that!! Why do we let Apple do it!! What a bunch of arrogant pricks.
John Baker all car parts are model specific, but these phones were the same TYPE. That's like saying your car won't go because the VIN number is different. Yes, there are hidden VIN codes all over every car, but they're located in the same places and don't affect the operative characteristics of the engine, except where law requires different characteristics: which are itemized on the effing bill of sale, and reflected in the sale price and only INDICATED by either the documented VIN character and/or model name. This loose association does not CAUSE incompatibility as demo'd by the OP video above.

It does not work with another original screen, it means that they prevent the right to be able to repair it by third parties. I hope that the European Union will sanction them and force them to rectify.

REWA Technology : you might have read it in other comments, but would it be possible to identify and transfer the chip that holds the unique id from screen A and transfer that to screen B. Then test with flex A on screen B. If that's possible then I'd love to see a vid of that :). I admit it's a lot of work for only ambient light functionality, but it would be nice to know. Another train of thought : it is possible to update the firmware of the screen with a special jig. I don't know which IC this programs, but if it's the one containing the unique id then maybe you could use that to read the info of screen A and program that into screen B ? I'm talking about this jig : imgur.com/a/y6lwj. It was used extensively to update the firmware on aftermarket screens to make sure the touch still works after iOS 11.3.
What if you swap backlight from one lcd to another and try if ALS works? I can confirm that changing LCD on ip8 brakes ALS. Thank you for this video

I think, for iPhone 8 and above. Third party screens will come along with sensor flex. (As they both are binned) and you’ll have to restore your phone after changing the screen. Let’s see what happens.
the ambient light sensor is apparently being disabled by iOS during bootup. Unlike the touch issue manifesting after a repair, the light sensor problem is affecting devices running versions of iOS as far back as iOS 11.1 It all does seem to be coming back down to the chip that needs to be "updated.When Apple repairs a screen, they can use Horizon, It also made its Horizon calibration machine available to select authorized service providers. The front camera flex or ear speaker flex might be damaged during the screen replacing.
You guys complain and will still buy their products in a lineup at the front of their stores. Only way they will learn, stop buying their stuff until they change.

I have lost my iPhone X, and the auto brightness feature worked fine in it whenever I go under sun, my phone insurance company sent a new replacement iPhone X and in that new device the auto brightness adjustment is not working at all... it’s shows same brightness when I’m in dark room or under sun!!

Have you tested with same home button cable and different display?
moonpen the home button problems didn't occur until after a software update, so swapping buttons takes months to change behavior. On the other hand, This OP was a bad experience OOtB.

i wonder where the information for the ID matching is stored. if its in the flash chip then perhaps it could be possible to locate that code and replace it with the code of the new light sensor
I think they just have a little software-tool that checks any kind of code, stored somewhere or even just different resistance or capacity that is saved in the os and as soon there is an other part built in this value changes and with that software they just add the new value to the os.
It can possibly be done but you think the average Joe will pay for it? $$$ And don't get me started on the time that is gonna be needed. People already bitch about 20 minutes without their phone when I change their LCD. Screw you Apple!

Or, and this is something I would really like to know, we can take the chip which holds the ID of the broken screen, reball it and place it on the new screen. This would be a repair I'd like REWA to see doing.
Bjorn Kus this has already been present since 11.1 if I read correctly. It’s not like the touch issue which was introduced with 11.3. So, a u10 equivalent, let’s hope it’s a feasible way. Just glad it’s only the ambient light sensor now, but nothing is stopping them from going for the proximity sensor next. And I can sell the ambient light sensor crap to a customer for now, but proximity is going to be a dealbreaker

iOS 12 beta 2 has resolved ALS issue, thou TrueTone deactivated.
Yes. We’re generally aware of this issue and have done a series tests.
There is also solution for ALS issue on iOS 11.4. Please stay tuned.
The thing that gets me is why just disable the ambient light sensor? If Apple really thought this was a security issue, they'd disable the whole damn display.

With apple parts you can not hot swap and expect them to work. You always have to reboot and then test

They demonstrated a well known issue. You've got to know what is going on already to read the title and see what is going on with their nonexistent vocal/meta description. They're so smart in fact that they expected us to be able to keep on understanding their thought process through Shen Yun: both devices are the same f'king color and their moronic cut-style editing hasn't made it clear that one device's WHITE screen is being mounted on the WHITE body of the other. They could have marked the halves in many ways to help all the people dumber than yourself, but instead they rely on nothing but your kudos to make them seem intelligent, which FYI they did NOT prove.
I do not see anything smart here. No solutions were found to the problem.
For now, we suggest to do glass-only repairs if you got a broken screen.

Oh and BTW, I'd have been using an E60 right now, which is a Crackberry lookalike, except the plastic side buttons just disintegrated for some unknown reason...but I've had many other brands of phones, not excepting Motorollas & Samsungs, that ALL had different, proprietary chargers. The early adopters of micro/mini USB ports had cheap pressure sensitive touchscreens and cringeworthy Java ME OSes. MIDp apps were small and fast, but there were so many compiled versions for different screen sizes, idiotic trust certifications preventing install of valid apps, maximum package sizes, no hash table directories in a repository, the whole security was limited only to either revoke or allow network access configuration- I mean really, if you're installing an unknown app, and it just needs to do some basic code injection to brick your device, why would it ask for network access? Well it might because the default access level was set to "quietly allow", and beyond an alert mode, because there was no automatic mechanism to begin gradual elevation of privilege to it.
That being said, I never owned a Whackberry, but I imagine the MO was much the same.!

We actually use the original LCD and light sensor flex cable, but the problem remains the same even with OEM parts applied.

@REWA With all the machines and tools you invented, I'm pretty sure you will will find out how Apple is doing that and will make a tool for that, probably it is just a little program of some bytes, that they use in their own repair shops that is sets the hardware free to the software.

As long as people believe that Apple products are the best, without knowing why, Apple will still prevail. Other manufactures copy Apple, because the phones that they produce looking similar to iPhones, do better on the market (expecially in Asia), so they will keep copying Apple.
Don't worry, Huawei and Xiaomi are now in top 3 and 4 of the most selling smartphones in the world, respectively.
They will overpass Apple soon enough after the iPhone X's big failure.
They can try their best to improve, but if they continue this way of treating us customers, they're not going to survive in the future.
For now, we can only hope that iPhone users who still buys iPhones will have their ambient sensor to break, just so they would be aware of this thing and finally realize not to buy Apple products anymore. If they're not gonna be brainwashed again to purchase another iPhone, that is.
If Apple doesn't make a high quality product, then the users will switch brands. But because of that high quality product, their phones last so long, giving users no reason to upgrade, so their only way to force them to buy the new one is to basically make the old generation ones unusable. But then that move will disappoint the user and switch to other brands, knowing they're gonna be treated way better than Apple does.
There's no strategy by Apple that will keep them selling and earning money forever. Every option that they have, all of them will result to their loss.
