    I love when an easy to build project like this fireplace surround makes such a huge impact. In this project I use the Kreg 520 Pro and 720 Pro pocket hole jigs and show how that having the "smaller" tool at times can really make life easier! Also, make sure to catch the end where I show how I hide the screws that secure the fireplace surround to the wall.
    This project is sponsored by my friends at Kreg Tool Company!
    Thank you so much for watching and I hope you enjoy the project!

      Thank you very much, it really came out great. Just hate I wasn't able to grab shots after it was painted! It would take a couple weekends 😂

    Hi! I have built a wood surround for my fireplace. It needs to be finished yet. What hear-resistant lacquer would you recommend to use?

    It would be nice to see more detailed views of the finished surround.

      Unfortunately I want around after the crew painted the surround.

    That is some kind of nice there Mr. Mike. Only a well tune saw and good blades, and moulding nested correctly can get those perfect miters. I need to work on my set up,... lol
    Thanks for sharing, and God bless

      LOL yeah you can't just slap it together and expect tight miters that's for sure! Thank you very much for the complements sir. God bless you too🙏

    I LOVE the use of the "outer layer" face boards and molding to cover up the pocket holes! I was expecting a marathon-timelapse of dwels and pull-saw action (been there, done that) but BOOM, you just threw another board over them and they vanish! ;)
    Question - can the 720pro be used in lieu of the the 520pro (4:22) in a clamp-in-place configuration? My 720pro is still "in the mail" (anxiously awaiting it any day now), so I don't have it in-hand yet to play with, but I was just curious... obviously the 520pro is essentially made for this exact purpose; I just wonder if the 720pro can be re-configured a bit to accomplish the same thing.

      Haha, yes I really thought through the construction of this to make it fast and not have any pocket holes to fill. Also I didn't mention it in the video, but I used solid wood for the edging because iron on edge banding would potentially loosen when the fireplace is used. (I didn't want to have to make s house call and repair my lack of forethought 😂)
      Anyways, yes the 720 can absolutely be used in both positions. The 520 was just a bit easier to use in that situation.
      Thanks for watching!

    Is that an active fireplace? Is there enough clearance? I’m not a safety inspector or a snitch. Just looking to figure out a design that’s safe and works.

    • @WoodshopMike
      @WoodshopMike  2 роки тому +1

      I'm not sure if they actually use it, but yes there is enough clearance. There's a guideline for the depth of the surround and how much clearance is required by code so I made sure to follow that 👍

      I enjoyed your video. Thank you! Where do you think I could find that code for clearances? It is for Utah.@@WoodshopMike

      Hi Josiah,
      Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Honestly I'd just Google what's code for your area. I remember there being several sites with the information. Hope that helps and happy building!

      National code stipulates 6 inches clearance for any combustible material from the firebox. So, I’m not sure it’s to code 🤔

    Hi, what's the depth of this from the wall?

    • @WoodshopMike
      @WoodshopMike  Рік тому

      This one is 5-1/2" from the wall. It can be deeper, but it would then also need to be higher per code.

      LOL! I'm just stubborn I guess🤣. It's on my list of shop projects to build a surround around the saw, but I'm also planning to build new cabinets so I'm just trying to not do repetitive work 🤣

    It is a shame that we never get to see the finished surround.

      Ugh I know! For these kinds of projects it's difficult navigating that because for my client I'm there to do a job and sometimes they aren't comfortable with me even filming just the install. I haven't even seen finished pictures of it painted.
