Having favored this channel for about 8 years now, I enjoyed the 'show & tell' biography as much as the picture frame build. As I recall, Jon, you have also mentioned how lucrative and a ready market there is for professionally built frames, as well.
Thanks Jack! I appreciate you watching and commenting all these years… have a nice weekend! Jon
"It's not going to get any better." Great quote Jon!! Thumbs up.
Lol thanks Chuck!
Came for the framing lesson.
Stayed to get to know more about our host.
You're a man of many talents. Well done!
Thank you! Neil
Love the painting and the video. Like this style of video where it’s more than just a build.
Thanks! I appreciate it
Always love seeing your art alongside the furniture! The bikini girl trays are some of my favorites. They're really fun pieces in my opinion.
Cool! Thank you… that’s the idea with those paintings, fun 👍
Always great stuff. I've been watching for 9 years. That million subscribers is coming.
Wow, thank you!
Great video. It would be fantastic to get a tour of all the items you’ve made in your house!
Thanks! Maybe the living room next.
I love abstract art, i once had an incredible time sitting with a 1958 Frank Stella painting. If you allow yourself, one can have a almost spiritual engagment with all types or art
Thank you! Love Frank Stella’s work especially the early black paintings
Really enjoyed this "behind the scenes" video. No matter what you're doing your passion shines through. I believe it comes down to the simple fact that you have great visual taste. Timeless pieces.
Thank you!
I’ve always enjoyed your videos. You present your craft in a very approachable manner. Adding a look into your artwork was wonderful. This was my favorite Jon Peter’s video.
Awesome, thank you! Really appreciate the feedback!
One of your best videos! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on art and your passions.
Thank you!
hi jon
even though i don't know much about art the way you explain everything you makes it so much easier to understand and i watch a lot of youtube wood workers as i use to make fitted kitchens and fitted furniture here in ireland for s living a job i loved but due to severe arthritis in my spine i had to make the difficult decision to give up the job i loved
the point i wish to make is that watching you and your projects and the fantastic way you communicate with your subscribers is second to none there is no over the top trailers
or clickbait just honest down to earth presenting and i love the way you share your home with us i always love when i see a new video from you even though the american way of doing things differs from the irish/european way of woodworking in that we use concealed hinges and adjustable legs in our kitchens no matter what way a piece of furniture is constructed once it is done with a quality craftsmanship and care and attention like you show in everything you do then its going to be a top class item wishing you a happy easter to you and yours
regards
james
Thank you James, that is really nice to hear! Happy Easter
@@JonPetersArtHome many happy returns to you and your family
Wow. It is great to see your other artistic endeavors. Amazing work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Really beautiful work, Jon! It turned out fantastic! 😃
I need to try something like that!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! You too!
I don't remember how many different how-to videos I've seen on making frames. Lots of paintings from years past that need to be framed and hopefully this will be year to do it. As usual, great video - very much appreciate your explanations and encouragement.
Definitely, once you get started you’ll really enjoy it… putting the painting in to the frame never gets old for me and each frame will get better and easier to make.
Go big with another one! I enjoyed seeing the intersection of your artistic abilities. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! I think I might… maybe 40 x 40 and 2” squares
Loved the house/art tour! You're a man of many talents. I used to make paintings not unlike the grid one, but I did scenes from Nintendo games where each square was a pixel. You've inspired me to make furniture so maybe I'll get back into art one day, too.
That’s awesome Ryan thank you! The Nintendo paintings sound cool!
Paintings and furniture,. You are talented sir.
And your piece with the hand cut dove tails 👍
Thank you very much!
Like many of your comments, I really enjoyed your video and stories. Thanks Jon very inspirational.
Thank you! Great to get the positive feedback.
Nicely done Jon! I like the painting and it looks like something that I could probably do myself. 👍👍
Thanks Steve, you could!
Very cool video. Loved all the information on the canvas and materials and the tour at the end!
Thanks Jon!
You’re such a cool, inspiring dude. Everything from woodworking, artwork, to lawn care lol How is there enough time in the day for you?! lol cool video. Love the floating frames.
Thanks! I really appreciate it!
Great video. Thanks for sharing this one and a little behind the scenes info. I love your furniture videos but really enjoy your change of pace. Well done. And I really like that painting as well (the subject of this video)
Thanks Mark
Very interesting, Jon~! Thanks for the framing class and the tour~!
Thanks Andrew!
I like the painting ! And the frame ! Keep going.
Thank you! Will do!
Beautifull painting , pictures frame perfect my friend.

Perhaps my favorite video of yours to date.
That’s awesome! Thanks!
Very talented Jon...enjoy your videos..
Thank you!
Loved hearing about your painting/furniture making journey at the end
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
I love your work and the way you teach, I learn a lot, thank you for sharing other aspects of your tastes and activities, I don't paint that well and I'm allergic to bees, but it's enjoyable watching your channel
Saludos al algoritmo
Thank you!
Jon, it was really interesting to hear your background in art and woodworking. My wife likes to stitch and sew. She recently completed a piece that she wanted a frame for. I might give your frame idea a try, thanks!
Cool! Frames are always fun projects and that moment the painting goes into the frame never gets old.
That’s a beautiful project - painting and frame. Thank you for sharing your art!
Appreciate it! Thanks
Great video and art! Love it.
Thanks Melissa!
that's a great painting!
Thanks!
Wow, great art and woodworking skills!
Thanks!
I like the art/ woodworking videos. Keep it up. It's a way for us to add our own to our own homes
Thanks! Will do!
Love the video
Enjoyed listening, love the art
Thank you!
Thanks. Very interesting and cool.
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
Great info in this video. I copied one of your frame designs and it came out really good. Jon you are very talented and inspiring me to build harder more challenging projects...🤘🤘🤘
Awesome! Thank you!
Enjoyed the video!
Thanks!
I like it too!
Thanks!
Really nice frame. I also like the geometric painting (your client will certainly enjoy it framed). [appreciate the video tour of the room, with the furniture and artwork--a neat space]
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks for the video
You bet thanks!
I like the way raw canvas looks, but I want it to hold up so I seal mine with a waterbased matte clear poly and I find that it brings out the “grain” of the canvas as if it were wet. Looks good on linen too
Yes that’s about what I do too. I spray it on the canvas after stretching but before painting.
“Doesn’t get any better from here…” I laughed out loud. Great video. Love the art. Any concerns about using water based poly over oil paints? Would oil base polyurethane be better?
😂That’s awesome thanks! The water based poly is only on the canvas… I painted the squares after the canvas was sealed with the poly.
Hi Jon. Have you ever considered creating your own version of a Mondrian style painting? Just a thought. A video of how it was designed, painted & framed would be nice to see. Thanks.
Great idea Maybe one day… this painting definitely has that Broadway boogie feel … Reminds me of one of his very early works a gridded painting of a tree.
Try a Mondrian style with wood veneer. It can be pretty cool.
Didn't like the painting till it was framed and on the wall. Framing and placement makes a big difference, wow.
Thanks! Very true 👍
Hey Jon.....LOL! , but it did get better! Jasper Jons comes to mind? Jackson Pollack book, Saw his work at MOMA. Great background stories.
😂 thanks Thomas! Definitely I’m a big fan of both!
16:15 Wow! This looks amazing! Is there a youtube video on making it? If not: I think that would make a great video, Jon!
Thanks! I don’t have a video on making it but I do have a video on making the frame and mounting board. I think it’s titled framing a grid painting… I posted it above two years ago.
@@JonPetersArtHome Going to look it up! Hope you'll post more videos on painting and paintings!
You can use mat medium to dull down acrylics.
Oil paint on un-primed canvas is a no no. The linseed oil in the oil paints will break down the canvas over time. Jackson Pollocks paintings are all slowly rotting away because he used unprimed canvas. (He also used things like left over house paint)
The canvas is sealed first with the water based polyurethane
are the kapex 120 cuts not repeatable enough that you have a dedicated miter saw for the 45°?
It’s just that I have the other saw set up with a sacrificial fence.
If people don't understand that this is artwork maybe they should look up Wassily Kandinsky, Damien Hirst or Piet Mondrian. There is genuine intellectual method behind the madness. ;) John's painting is very much a riff on Hirst's work.
So true! We are all borrowing from those that came before us.
Do you have an RAF in storage you’d consider selling?
I don’t, I do have a star made of 25 aluminum 10” x 10” box’s
24 mm is getting common. That gives 18mm for3/4”.12mm for 1/2”. 6mm for 1/4and so on.
The economics of selling your art is fascinating and confusing
That’s for sure Art
