    The KICKER Warhorse WX10000.1D was touted as the "most powerful single channel amplifier" in 2008. This amp was part of KICKER's return to SPL competitions. Unfortunately 2008 was a period of economic difficulties in the US and this amp at it's $9999 MSRP was difficult for most to consume.
    Note: this is an unboxing and quick overview video on my 2nd channel, Wheelie Williston. I have plans for another video going into more details on the design and trying it with the L7R Quad Box. What say you?

    The crackling sound is normal internal noise, when the music is turned up it will drown the noise. 10000 watt amp will not sound good at 30 watt. this amp was designed to play music with Kicker 18 inch Solo-X. Surprised nobody ever tried running a pair of Warhorses with each paired to the same coils but phase reversed on one amp to create a full-time push/pull. Would require some pretty mean diodes and possibly some other stuff to keep back-emf and output from one amp feeding back to the other, but I think it could have solved the "poor" audio quality issue. EDIT - any way to tell what number your amp is? Should check mine..

      @Aziz Masri Thank you for replying Aziz, do you still service these amps for Kicker? The Warhorse is the most impressive amplifier I have worked on to date. The inherent ticking/crackling sound at very low volume is easy to get rid of with a passive 4th order crossover. I built a couple for a good friend who has the Warhorse running two 18" Solo-X subs and the noise was eliminated.

    The KICKER Warhorse WX10000.1 is a beast of an amp. It needs eight 800-cold-cranking-ampere 12-volt batteries, two 200-ampere alternators, a 250 ampere fuse for each alternator within 18" (45cm) of each alternator and a second 250 ampere fuse within 18" (45cm) of the battery network. All power and ground wires need to be as short as possible and utilize 1/0 gauge wire.
    The Warhorse amplifier can only drive extremely high-power-rated, dual-voice coil speakers and needs 8 Gauge Speaker Wire.
    Since the output current to the subwoofers can reach 90 amperes, the connectors must be extremely rugged. The Warhorse has Anderson connectors because they have been proven to hold up under demanding high current applications (such as industrial fork lifts). They are also ideal due to the fully enclosed design which helps eliminate the chance for electrocution. The output current is monitored by surface mount resistors that are referenced to ground and calibrated for 90 amps RMS. When that level is reached the DSP controller shuts the amplifier down in microseconds to prevent damage to any components.
    It must be really fun to crank this baby up!

  • @DrewDraKul
    @DrewDraKul 3 роки тому +1

    The crackling sound I think could come from the Planar Transformers if not a dry filter cap as they are VERY prone to EMF interference. To test is easy enough by shielding them with tinfoil or something or possibly even just stand the amp up so the transformers are at a 90degree angle from the source of the EMF or rather a 90-degree angle from where they were when the noise was heard. If no change in static then not them but if you hear changes then they could be the issue as they are acting as an antenna as they don't seem to be shielded in any way.

  • @sylkelster

    Sometimes you can isolate noises like that with freeze spray. The noise will temporarily disappear when semiconductor junctions that are failing are momentarily chilled. Check those op amps and transistors on the preamp board, otherwise a capacitor in the audio path.

    • @btwbrand

      The speaker crackle is normal for these amps. They all did it. It's how the amp was built and feed signal to the output that causes this audible noise.

    Ye its a cool way to make a sign wave on the amp. Half or (voice coil 1) goes down and the other side (voice coil 2) goes up. The amp does not make a sign wave proper on each side it just does half of the sign wave for coil one and the other half on coil 2. SO as it switches back and forth you can hear the amp doing the switching that is the sound you hear.

    Idiot me I actually had a chance to get my hands on a warhorse and Believe it are not the guy that was selling the amplifier only wanted a 1000 bucks for the amplifier because he changed his entire setup to DC audio I chicken out for the simple fact it takes power to make power if that makes sense i would've had to change my entire electrical system for the warhorse and to be honest I wasn't ready go all out with the up grades but other than that I love the beast of a amplifier the guts are beautiful once again big d you given us a wonderful video as always

  • @justinhiggins2210
    @justinhiggins2210 2 роки тому

    I think it may be crossover notch distortion. There is a point at wich the speaker is not receiving any instruction from the amp to move either way wich is the reason you have to play dual coil subs, one side of the amp plays one side of the a.c waveform and the other side plays the other and on a scope if you magnify the display you can see a flat spot between the rise and fall of the signal. It's an odd design and not a very good one in my opinion as my Warhorse has a weird sound in it too. It's not a traditional design by no means as the amp gets a signal and tries to modulate the power supply to kind of come on and off following the signal so it doesn't really have an output section. I have a couple of them now as the people I got them from didn't like them and I got really good deals on them. For one amp I repaired a bunch of amps for a guy in trade for the Warhorse.

    I had that noise when I had a loose ground or was lazy assumed that the amp was grounded "good enough" when I mounted it to the body panel behind the seat of my truck. But I'm sure you know better than to make that mistake. I mean, come on, I was in high school 😂

    Seems like you wont be able to dyno this amp just because of the way it works. That whole push pull thing, 1 channel only outputs the top half of the sine wave and the 2nd channel outputs the bottom half.
