    I’ve put 30,000 miles on my fox 2.0 shocks Giver take a little bit and I have absolutely love them have done Moab we have done Telluride And we have hit some stuff in South Dakota that would blow your mind I know shocks have not only held up very well and been very comfortable on the road and the trail

    When lifting my JK (covid era) I planned on going with Kings, but the lead time was going on over 2 months, so I went with the FOX 2.0 Performance Series Reservoir Adjustable Shocks, and they are amazing. With the MetalCloak Game Changer, it rides like stock. Offroad, I couldn't ask for a better ride, and with the removable sway links, the amount of flex is amazing🤙🏽

    I have fox IQS performance on a 2 door JK it performs as it's promoted. Simple flip of a switch. Soft, Intermediate, Firm. Not ever going to be jumping my jeep so I'll never need firm, use soft in the pastures and intermediate on the high way.

    I like body roll and spongy soft on the highway - in fact my 2008 JKUR has no front sway bar at all to get the better ride. Very few places in and around mountains offer fast dune and sand type speeds so the markets are very opposite in what people want. Streets are becoming rougher rides than offroad in some areas - sunken manholes, large cracks, potholes so really we do 95% of mileage on road. Best option (and always the most expensive) is the C/R adjustable shocks that one plays with once they hit the trails then reverses back for the ride home.

    Would really like a review on the Walker Evans (Dana Spicer) colab reservoir shocks for JK... Very interested in these but have not seen anyone's review on them.

    How about those VERTEX reservoirs from RC? I know everyone loves to hate Rough Country, but our experience with the VERTEX adjustables suggests they're on to something...

      We have not had the chance to test them yet, but the numerous calls we get a day from customers wanting to switch out of those shocks for pretty much anything else is telling enough for us.

      I would be curious what they do not like about them. I have had them on my JLUR for almost 3 years now and love them. I think people hating them may be an even better reason to review them!@@ShockSurplus

    I would think putting the King 2.0 on Eric's Jeep next would be the best choice.
    because all the Big Dog Jeeps say Fox and King are the top two they use.
    that would be the best comparison by going from one to the other, while the feel is still on their mind.

      We found the King 2.0s to be a little loose and squishy for our liking. Our favorite option of all the 2" body shocks were definitely the Fox. They were nearly as plush as the Kings, but a lot more stable and easier to live with particularly on the road. Overall though, our favorite was definitely the Bilstein 8100s, but it is hard to beat a bypass shock. Although we have not tested them yet, we are still fairly confident the Fox 3.0s are the top dog for bolt on shocks though.

      I've heard some Jeep Overlanders say that Bilstein handled the body roll better than the Fox 2.0.

      They definitely are on it there. The Billies certainly handle better and are often the better choice for an overland build with more constant load, however they are by no means as plush as a Fox is unloaded.

    I have a 2012 jku with a 3.5 rough country lift kit and RC dual stabilizer. I’m looking for some of the best lit kits that will be for daily driving and longer drives. Obviously Jeep’s will always be rough on road but this RC is horrible. Thanks in advance!

    What’s best shocks for bashing sand dunes n drifting n driving like a go kart?? 🤔 & also wats good for helping me keeping it stable against high winds on highway

      Definitely a hard call, but if you can swing it Fox 2.5s or 3.0s would probably be the way to go. The Dual Speed Compression adjusters mean you can tune your handling balance and sway with the low speed knob, and bump stiffness with the high speed knob, so you can usually get the rig a little more locked down with less compromises than some of the other options. If both are out of your price range, I would try to get into an Icon 2.5 external reservoir shock. They are digressive in valving so should be pretty tight in the handling department by nature. They also position the reservoir bridge to create a stiffer ride zone when the shock is nearly fully compressed, so they should have a lot more support over big hits than your average digressive damper

    I have a 20 JL 2.5 lift with 37s I find it rides rough and hit bumps in the road hard!!! The shocks I have are rubicon. What is the best choice for a smoother ride on roads/highway

      If you're on a the stock Rubicon shocks, then you're definitely not cycling the correct travel for your 2.5" and 37s. Rubicon comes with a 1 or 1.5" lift which the shocks would not work more than that as in the aftermarket work, they go to 2-3" or 2-4.5" options. If you want something for comfort, I would suggest looking at Bilstein 5100 or Fox 2.0 for a 2.5" lift. If you want to invest into something more, look up ARB/OME BP51, those will give you the best comfort adjustability for daily and overland style of driving.

      Real talk? Vertex coilovers are a direct copy of Fox 2.5 factory series coilovers (now being updated to performance elite), and their V2 smooth body shocks are a direct copy of Fox 2.0. So we'd rather run Fox than RC's cheaper counterpart.

    New to the Wrangler. My 2019 OEM Rubicon sits higher than other non Rubicon's. What size would I need to keep the same off the lot Rubicon height or very close?

    Looking for some input.
    Jeep gladiator 3.6 with Mopar 2" Lift with 35" tires. It comes with fox shocks.
    I have winch in the front and and smart cap topper on the back. I live outside of Yosemite so lots of mountain roads and riding forest service roads twice a week.
    The vehicle seems very under shocked. Lots of body roll and some wheel hop. However it is very smooth off road.
    Do you have shock recommendations for this vehicle?
    BTW thanks for the videos and articles on your website. As you know, there is lots of opinions on shocks on the interwebs and very little facts.

      I have the same set up on JLUR. I don’t feel much body roll. Feels like butter on most trails. Has decent flex with sway bar disconnected. It’s definitely not a set of kings, Icons, or high end fox, but, I’m happy with them for now. I’ll be headed to Telluride and to Moab this summer so I will put them to the test.

      I forgot to mention, I do have 35’s which from what I’ve been reading gives it more flex compared to 37’s, not to mention better gas mileage if it’s a daily driver.

      expense is usually the main reason on the air systems, they are available though on a custom setup basis
      people lift their jeeps for functional reasons like more clearance for rock crawling, more clearance for larger tires. Mostly for aesthetics though

      Almost all of these options are available in a multitude of different lengths to account for varying lift heights, so it would be a little hard to show all that data in the video, but we do list the lengths on just about everything we carry on the site so if you are in the market for any of these options, you can see which of their lengths best fits your needs.

    Installing on a Gladiator JTRD the Metalcloak 2.5" overland lift. Being a diesel with also pulling a small camper, less than 2500#'s, is the Fox 2.0 the best option? No extreme offroading happening.

      The Fox 2.0 is certainly not bad under a load or towing and are generally killer overall, but they are probably one of the weaker choices on this list in terms of stability under a load. Being a Rubicon, you Jeep was likely specced with them from the factory so if you were looking for a little more out of the suspension they may not be your #1. I might lean towards something like the Eibach Pro Truck Sports or a Bilstein 5160 (they are a little longer fully extended compared to the comparable 5100s so you can get a little closer to using all of those MC springs) as both will be a little more stable under a load and last longer. They may ride a touch firmer but it will be difficult to get something that simultaneous handles load better and is more comfortable on the road without moving upmarket to something like the Bilstein 8100 smoothies

      Just depends on what you're looking for. Bilstein 4600 for OEM replacement, Bilstein 5100 for towing and hauling. Eibach for daily driving, Fox 2.0 for off-roading and etc.

      I would definitely keep it simple to keep maintenance down.     Looking for a recommendation: I own a 2022 Wrangler JL 4-door Rubicon with the factory xTreme Recon package ( a bit more lift, heavier axles, heavier brakes, 35-inch BFG K02s) steel bumpers, towing package, 12,000 lb winch. It is used as a grocery getter. I don't commute in it. I live in Utah and take this Jeep on overlanding trips (2 or 3 annually) very heavily laden, and on Moab rock crawling trips (3 or 4 annually). I am 70 years old and expect to realistically use this Jeep for 5 to 10 more years. Annual mileage expected to be under 15k miles. Does this xTreme Recon Rubicon require a different shock than a standard Rubicon? Thanks for your time.

      The Xtreme Recon package comes with a factory 1.5" lift. We would suggest for your needs, look up Fox 2.0. This would be great for daily and capable for off-roading.

    What would be a good option for a 1999 jeep tj sport 5speed manual 3inch lift. Kinda a daily driver but mostly for taking crawling or to the trails.

      I would lean towards a Bilstein 5100 for something like that. The wheeling you are doing is not super demanding on shocks and the Jeep is light so a 2" body should be plenty. Plus the digressive valving will be a big help keeping it flatter and more planted if you either have disconnects or have your sway bars removed. They also last a long time without needing service, so they are solid for a daily driver.

      Bilstein doesn't offer an adjustable shock like compression and rebound outside their 8100 series which is not available for every vehicle. Bilstein adjustable are more of a height adjustable in their 5100, 6112, and etc.

    Thinking to get the fox 2.5 for my jeep ( JL 2 door on 37s, rear tire 37 and front bumper with winch ) my question is do you think the fox 2.5 are stiff for my jeep, or do you think the fox 2.0 no reservoir is enough, it’s my daily and just go off road on weekends and not rockcrawler

    Looking for some guidance, I have a 2016 Jeep wrangler with a 2.5in lift 35in tire and 20in wheels. A significant amount of weight on front and rear with some aftermarket bumpers, a daily driver with occasional visits to the beach riding in the dunes. What would be a suggestion

      Sure a lot of it comes down to budget but on the low end I would probably be in an Eibach or Bilstein and then if you can swing it I might consider an OME BP51. If your lift was done with spacers I would also recommend ditching those for a heavier rated spring. Another thing I would definitely do if it is in the budget is to step down in rim diameter so you can run a tire with some actual side wall. If you are driving in the sand, you are going to want to air down which is already cutting into your sidewall thickness, so you are leaving a lot on the table with those 20s.

    Best shocks for a JL on 37s with a 4inch lift ? Jeep is already running Fox 2.0s. Looking for the best on road and offroad performance and smoothness. Havent tried any other than stock.

      Really the Fox 2.0s probably strike the best balance between comfort and control at their price point and body size on these JLs so if you want more out of the Jeep, you definitely will want to step up to a 2.5" or larger body. If you like the Fox 2.0s now, the 2.5 Performance Elite series is definitely a safe bet, but a lot of it comes down to your preferences and driving style when you are in the dirt. Give the team a shout directly on our site with a little better idea of your driving habits and uses and we can get a better idea of what might be the right shock for you.

    I have a 2006 jeep tj with the JKS super flex 3.5 lift with 33/10.5 tires. I’m looking to upgrade after blowing my two rear and snapping my passenger front shock. It’s a daily driver and a weekend warrior What do you think would be best option

    How are the Falcon E adjust and are they actually responsive to terrain?

      We have not personally tested them quite yet but they are on the books to do so. Some customers have told us, mainly Jeeps, that they hold really well on trails and the tuning helps them navigate different conditions.

      Depends on the vehicle. If you have a JL with a 3-4" lift, Bilstein 8100 bypass with compression and rebound adjustment on a 2.5" body.

    This is 9 months later I doubt I’ll get a response but I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler JK it’s my daily driver so I’m looking for a shock that’s going to help give me the smoothest ride possible as well as perform when I go play. Any suggestions?

      If you're worried about daily comfort but still want to handle it on a trail, look at OME BP51. They give you the most comfort and control. If you're ok with losing some of the comforts but getting superior off-roading control, Fox 2.5 DSC, Bilstein 8110, and King 2.5 series would be the move.

    When do you need a reservoir with your shocks?

      Most 2.5" and larger diameter shocks already come with reservoirs, but if you are looking at 2" body shocks like a Fox 2.0 or Bilstein 5100 we usually say a reservoir is a good idea if you plan on doing any extended off road driving at moderate to medium speeds. If lets say you plan on doing a couple hours on a fire or forestry road, an IFP/non reservoir 2" body monotube or just about any twin or multi tube shock will definitely show some signs of fade. As with most things, it all comes down to driving style. Somebody who spends their days creeping through rock gardens could get away with almost no shock whatsoever while somebody who spends all day in the dunes or ripping across the desert with the pedal through the floorboards would be pushing a 2.5" body shock to its limits. With that said it is not uncommon for reservoir shocks to have a little more travel since the internal floating piston is moved from the main body of the shock to the reservoir, so sometimes people may want a reservoir shock so they can get the most travel and therefore articulation even if they are not driving their rig hard enough to get the shocks hot.

      @ShockSurplus awesome, thanks for the detailed information. I'm on a 4.5 lift with long arms from Clayton Offroad. It's my daily driver, and when I'm off road, I'm rock crawling, California trails. I don't do any fast driving off road.

    I have 2021 JL since I upgrade my tires to bigger tires my jeep is not comfortable anymore is that because of small suspension and shocks? Do I need to upgrade the suspension?

      It could the tire itself as every time and load rating would determine how it rides and feels. Shocks may help out to some extent as well if you're still on factory shocks.

    It would be better if you guys actually tested all of it and checked all of the components inside out before making videos, that way you guys can actually tell us based on your experience which is a better shocks!     What would you recommend for a 2004 Tahoe with a 6” lift on 37x13.50 mud grapplers. Fox 2.0 or bilstein 5100? I do strictly highway driving and comfort is important to me.

      Fox 2.0 will feel softer for day to day driving and will feel firmer if you take it off-roading or hit a trail. Bilstein 5100 are a towing and hauling shocks so they are overall firmer then stock and the Fox 2.0.

    Does anyone know if I can run Metal Cloak lift with King Shocks 2.5 reservoir? Any good? I’m not sure if I want to get the evo enforcer lift… I like Metal Cloak lol

      You can just make sure you get the proper length shocks that needs for you Metal Cloak lift kit. We previously had a JL running a 3.5" Metal Cloak kit and we didn't get chance to do King 2.5 but we did King 2.0, Fox 2.0 and then Bilstein 8100 and Rancho RS7MT. All were the proper length shocks for that specific 3.5" kit.

    Do you think Fox will ever have those 3.0 available for the Jeep JK?
    Also, your thoughts on the Radflo 2.5 compared to the King & fox 2.5?

    Question: I have the base Fox option that came with my JKS 2.5” lift. Which should I upgrade to, the adjustable reservoir Falcons or the Fox’s?

      JKS actually designs their kits around using Fox Shocks so overall they are a better pairing. The Fox also has a much larger 2.5" body with way more potential dampening force for more support without sacrificing comfort, and their dual speed compression adjusters allow you to tune ride comfort separate of handling which allows you to set them up with far less compromise.

      @@ShockSurplus I appreciate it. I am not going for the ultra expensive racing setup. I have that on my Mojave. I am looking at the adjustable 2.0 with remote reservoir. I am wondering if I would notice a difference from my Fox standard performances that came with my JKS lift though.

      depends on your budget, we like adjustable shocks for overlanding to help with different weights and terrains.
      BP51, Fox 2.5 DSC, Falcon 3.3. BP51 is our preference though because of the rebound adjustment -which no other shock on this table has.

      Yup at least up until the 2" body stuff. The only 2.5" body or larger bolt on option for an XJ would be a King 2.5

    I'd building a jeep tj and my end goal is getting it to 35 - 37 inch tires.
    This will be mostly my daily driver, and I'll be using it to ride long distances on road, so comfort is a must.
    ¿Which shocks do you recommend for this application?
    I do plan on doing off road trails with my rig (once a month maybe), but it will be mostly in mud, since there are no rock crawling places where I live.
    ¿Do I need reservoir shocks?

      TJs are light on weight and motion ratio so they really do not need a ton of shock, even with a tire as big as a 37. Since it is a daily driver I would definitely lean towards something like a Bilstein 5100 that is going to last awhile and not require any service. I always find the TJs to be a little wiggly even with a sway bar, so something with digressive valving like the Bilstein really helps keep the wiggle minimal. For the driving you are doing you probably only need a 2" body shock, and you definitely do not need a reservoir, but depending on the lift you run and how you space your bumps, a reservoir shock like a 5160 might give you a little more useable travel for better articulation. On a reservoir shock, the internal floating/dividing piston that separates the gas from the oil as well as the entire charge of gas itself are moved into the external reservoir opening up a ton of space in the main shock body. This allows a reservoir shock with the same main body size to have a longer extended length with the same or even in some cases shorter compressed length, IE more travel. For example the 3.5-4" lift front Long Arm spec 5100s and 5160s are both right around 15" compressed but the 5160 is a full 1.8" longer fully extended at 26.4" compared to 24.6" on the 5100. You will probably never get your shocks hot enough to need the reservoir for their intended purpose, but you may find the jump in travel is worth the jump in price.
