Honestly even not thinking about modesty. it just looks better on her. The mesh kind of made her waist disappear while adding the fabric back in just redefined that area and just elevated the look. It made her look more expensive. I'd say the mesh made it look like you were trying to cheapen out on sequence fabric meanwhile adding it just added a couple hundred dollars to the feel of the look. It's giving Jessica rabbit in the after.

@@lailataluminousnight8064 there's nothing wrong with modesty in and of itself. But in the context of cultural misogyny, a context in which most of us exist, modesty gets boiled down to "cover your female body so it's easier for men to control themselves". Obviously there's more to it, and there are a lot of valid reasons to want to dress modestly. But that's the experience that many of us have had and it changes our perception of the concept.

I went to my senior prom more than 20 years ago. Even back then it was next to impossible to find dresses that didn’t look like they belonged in playboy. Some friends and I went to 9 different malls, 8 stand alone stores. and 3 David’s Bridal stores. All over the course of about a month. My friends brother was in town visiting after finishing basic training. He went with us on one of our dress shopping trip. After the umpteenth store he said “I’ve had to learn to sew my uniforms. Let me get some fabric and see what I can do”. So we let him. And he made our dresses for us. I still have mine in storage.

Ugh! This reminds me of the alterations I had to make on my friend's wedding gown the day of the wedding! I don't know if her chest got smaller or the dressmaker was incompetent, but fortunately, I had my sewing box in the truck of my car (my sewing machine was 200 miles away), so I hand sewed the bustline, carefully gathering in the extra material in the bustline so she wasn't popping out of it. Thanks for giving this girl her special day, without feeling uncomfortable or exposed.

I honestly think it would have look3d prettier with more red up front too, instead of the mesh. Mesh just doesn't look good. Replacing the front mesh with red would define the shape of the gorgeous beadwork and show it off better *and* allow her to wear a bra that gives her some lift instead of the way the mesh is kinda squashing her girls a bit and making them look a little saggy. Or even just switching the mesh out and replacing it with some high end lace would have been better IMHO. I just do not like mesh. It always looks tacky, like those clear plastic bra straps girls used to wear when I was in high school.

But if that picture was from online on the mannequin, I’m really surprised they bought it! It looks SOO revealing on the mannequin-like low neckline plus deep v plus sides were sheer. The finished product was beautiful but my mom would never let me wear anything like that and I don’t think I would have wanted to. Cloths are made to suit people.
If people should alter themselves to fit any clothing, there is somthing massively wrong.
It is, by the way, not necessary to only produce taylorings that look good on very skinny people, who are in minour, and just size them up. This cannot work because bodies do not change in the same proportions than just upsizing of clothes does.

    • @Razzy-sr4oq

I have yet to see any comments about weight. I only see comments about the tasteful alterations and the stunning final appearance. Besides, there's clothing styles best suited to a type of weight. Very skin tight clothing is best for very trim bodies, but voluminous folds and elegant draping cloth looks quite poor on those very same trim, slender bodies. (The infamous Angelina Jolie at the Oscars comes to mind; the large skirt snd draping nature if her dress made her seem positively boney and skeletal, but on a larger woman, it would've been extravagant.) Clothing is like haircuts. You must work with the face shape and hair type you have to get the most flattering look.

Body positivity doesn’t have to mean SHOWING your body. And yes teenagers show off their bodies to be “sexy” as most people do. Having a large chest isn’t a crime but it’s commendable for someone to not want it on display because they don’t want any and everyone to have access to their bodies.
