I would think it's easier to convert the steering wheel location because it's drive-by-wire.
It's the rest of the dash that has to switch around too, not just the steering. Once the RH drive arrives, how does it affect the value of the one that's been converted?

Just give it a year or two, Sam. I'm sure eventually Tesla will start making a RHD version of the Cybertruck for markets like ours. That'll save you a lot of money and effort importing and converting a LHD vehicle to Australia.
Steer by wire... moving the wheel would be super easy. Put it in the back under the tonneau. 😆

@@Kevin07-w9l Obviously, Tesla would have to meet certification standards for this country, and that's why they haven't done it yet, because that would take time to modify the vehicle, and that's why I said in a year or two. But I think it would definitely sell here. Australia has a big truck culture. I'm not into them personally, I'm more of a car guy, but you see a lot of personal trucks or "utes" as we call them being driven on the roads of QLD where I am.
The stainless steel would have to be replaced with formed and painted panels because it’s too much of a death trap for pedestrians.
The Euro NCAP would rip it apart and I don’t see Elon spending the bucks redesigning his childish drawing to conform to European standards.
Think about it. Volvo has an airbag system under the hood and the hoods are deformable. Stainless steel is not. You have seen crash tests of the cyberfail, do you really think that any formed stainless steel will be any different?
I test drove one several weeks ago in Walnut Creek and loved it. So nimble and quick.

Actually a Cyber Truck might be the easiest left-hand drive to right-hand drive conversion ever given the steer-by-wire functionality.
Just wait for Cybertruck to come to Australia. It will get to you eventually and likely be better and cheaper (and fully supported) when it comes.
@@IndigenousEarthling101 it won’t be the same car if it does come to Australia. Almost half the design of the car doesn’t comply with Australia road regulations so there would have to be a full body redesign. Especially the shape every edge on the car has to be rounded. For pedestrians impact regulations. This doesn’t exist in America so they have some changing to do.
@@Kevin07-w9l Even more reason to wait for a fully compliant vehicle. It would be a shame to have one shipped over, modified, and not be able to get registered for on road use due to actual or perceived non-compliance. The US has had similar issues with Japanese Kei cars.
@@IndigenousEarthling101 I’m sure if you were willing to pay for it they could be rego in Aus but definitely not on a standard rego and it would definitely not be cheap 300 k car by time your done with engineering ect. Hence why it’s not for sale here just not worth it for the companies involved

For the cost of it definitely worth waiting. Not to mention Tesla really dropped the build quality on the cybertruck it would definitely be worth waiting for the next model hopefully they don’t just glue all the pannels on the next one 😮

Never be a guinea pig for any product. Never buy a product spending fortune of money only by marketing and emotions, without reviews, cold consideration of all pluses and minuses. This is the best tip.

Steer by wire may make it easier to convert to right hand drive- or it could be a nightmare. One thing for sure- you’re warranty will be busted❗️

Drive a Ford E-Transit to see how a REAL Electric Truck is meant to do work. This is more of a toy then an actual work truck. I applaud Tesla for thinking outside the box and I think its a good first attempt. I like the blade runner theme but it needs to deliver where it counts like the Tesla Semi.
Got to buy guaranteed to double in value.
Sam, have it built with right side steering right from the factory. It should be fairly easy since it is drive by wire.

I would approach Tesla on X and ask for any info they could give you on what is involved in making this RHD. Might not be nearly as much since there is no steering rack or column to change out?
That’s awesome you got to test the CT. You should wait to see if prices will be reduced on the used market at a later date. But don’t get a new one given you’d need to spend a lotta money converting to right hand drive.

You know, it might be easier to convert to Right hand drive then you think!
That is one of the main advantages in steer by wire, the actual steering shaft isn't connected like normal vehicles are.
Check out if the conversion could be done by Tesla themselves first.

In Canada US and Japan one can drive either LHD or RHD no prob 😊 Aus should allow this too
We can for vehicles over 20 years old but not new vehicles without a time limited permit.

Mate, that looks like a lot of fun. I don't think importing one would be good though, and getting insurance and things like that would be a headache for a car that hasn't been approved through the usual steps. I reckon, just wait for it to be sold here officially.

I don't think you will have to wait long before you can order a righthand drive cybertruck. There's going to be a big demand for them and Tesla will do it at some point. Maybe even next year.
The lhd to rhd is going to cost way more than that. It might be $20K for a normal car, where they make both the RHD and LHD models, so they have the parts readily available. As far as I know, they are not currently making a RHD Cyber Truck. So there are no parts to do it.

Would you have to convert it? We see Delica right hand drives in Canada (which is a little jarring when you see people driving from what looks like the passenger seat, but I'm assuming legal). Love your straight forward inquisitive style. Keep it up!
if you think it is that easy and that cheap to convert to right hand drive. You got a big surprise coming. Not to mention import chargers as well. Kinda let down that you think this is your dream car but each to their own right.........

Australian Design Rules make it a lot more complicated than just converting to right hand drive. Look at the Atto 3 and new Tesla M3, could not be sold here until a rear seat belt mounting point was redesigned. Something as simple as that would bring you undone financially Sam. Remember that 2nd hand Chinese EV you bought at auction? Unregisterable here.The Cybertruck would be just as impossible to get on the road.

Those points were there but hidden, how the homologation of those models didn’t reveal this is a head scratcher, both on Tesla & Aus authorities.

It has to be the easiest thing to do RHD. There's no linkage whatsoever. It's a bunch of Xbox controllers.

lt would probably cost of 50 to 100k to convert one a to RHD for Australia as a one off. There's a lot that goes into a conversion that people don't realise. lt also needs to be done at a reasonable volume in order to get the costs down . l say that as a 4WD ute owner who would buy an electric ute tomorrow if someone made a decent one. l don't want a cybertruck as it wouldn't suit my needs but l do want the features of a cybertruck in a ute . Around the size of a Ranger, Amarok or Hilux with the cab chassis option so that it can have a custom tray fitted . Me and about a million other Aussies would buy one straight away . A genuine range of 500kms would do for the time being. l reckon it will be about 3 years before we see that type of ute available. l realise that there's a couple of new electric utes coming soon as well as a couple of hybrids . No one really wants them . Just an electric version of the popular models we drive now would be prefect . Good luck with your holiday mate . Love your positivity . You're a bloody legend.

I’m the only one of my friends that thinks it’s cool! I see one every day parked when I go to the gym. Apparently, me and the owner of the Cybertruck are on the same schedule. I definitely like it wrapped better than straight stainless. I also saw one the other day that was completely polished! Crazy! Probably really cool at night reflecting all the lights, but not my taste. It’s such a great ’blank canvas’ to work with. Unfortunately, I’m all about range and utility of any vehicle I buy. ICE or EV. I’m hoping in 3 year’s time, they’ll come out with a 550 range Cybertruck, that doesn’t require that stupid add on battery pack. So not Tesla style, when half the pack is not filled with powered cells. Lame.
