Pidgin English is Gold.
It makes communication so sweet and dramatic.
My family is originally from Sierra Leone and we speak a language called Creole, also known as Krio. It’s very similar to Nigerian pigeon. It’s practically the same language, but a slightly different dialect. We can definitely communicate and understand each other. It also has roots in the Caribbean.
Yes i agree with you
As a Cameroonian, Sierra Leone's Creole is word to word with our pidgin i understand every single word
But yeah the accent is little different lol
We use it to communicate when we are among the whites or Yellows and don't want them to understand us 😂
@ Exactly! 😄❤️
Nigerian "pigeon" indeed 😂
Thats Awesome! Hopefully I'll make a video about Creole or Krio soon.

This is an amazing short documentary about Pidgin as a language and as a Nigerian myself I'm happy to see this. So ill say make my comment in Pidgin:
Dis documentary too sweet abeg, my bodi tranga as I dey watch. Di way yu take explain too make sense die. Naija pidgin boku, and if person say e wan understand am e dey change as Afrobeats dey plenti words join am. I fit tok say you fit divide Naija pidgin into four:
1. Lagos Pidgin
2. Warri Pidgin
3. Bini Pidgin
4. Port Harcourt
Dis four so na say because dis places na waterside, and na were slave masters take dey buy slaves for colonial era so.
I know say if men see dis wan dem fit start to dey drag am sha 😂.
But the diversity of pidgin is what makes it more interesting and ita ever growing vocabulary and reaching new countries its something I love to see. Keep up the good work 💪🏻💪🏻

Nigerian pidgin English has some French words. For instance, E borku (borku means plenty/ much.) Boucoup is the French word meaning plenty or more
Omooor I be nor know before o
Yeah... It contains a touch of Português too. Eg. "Sabi" comes from the Portuguese word "saber", which means "know", "understand", etc. The Nigerian pidgin is so versatile.

Also Portuguese
Of course! _You never hear Ovuleria’s pidgin? Even _*_“qu'est-ce que c'est”_*_ dey inside am_ 😂😂
'Sabi' is Spanish word for "know "
Omo, this documentary don mad me aswear!
Pigin have words from many languages in Nigeria and outside, for example wahala is actually a hausa word that can mean hard, or ole which Is Yoruba for thief same as barawo which is hausa for thief, also some Spanish words there too.
I thought wahala oselu a yoruba word meaning trouble

so if person like me, PH boy from trenches, fit grasp english so intricately, still sabi pidgin... BASICALLY ON A QUANTUM LEVEL... how you go calm down open mouth talk say you no fit speak pidgin?
like honestly atp the only reason you can give is that you're not based in Nigeria. that you moved since you were like 3. that'd honestly just be the only viable defense you could muster rn ngl.
@@Mazcaraayo Thank you for being sweet. I really wish to learn but no one to speak it with.
@@mostlyASHI all these epistles of Ashi just because I can't speak pidgin English. What made you think you can speak better English language than me ? Stop gassing yourself up Mister.
Not everyone has the opportunity to learn pidgin even in Nigeria and in the State I grew up in; it either you speak yoruba or pure English or English mixed with yoruba. However, people from South-South, South East and Lagosians speak more pidgin than other Nigerians.
@@adesewaadeyeni2257 tf? a State completely devoid of pidgin?? nahh brah, that's premium 🧢 right there.
y'know, i really thought you'd toe the "i'm not based in the country" route. ain't no way such a State even exists in this country, lady. and if you truly believe what you just said, yourself, only logical explanation could be that you've been one of them sheltered chicks.
let me guess... you grew up in an estate locked away from the common folk, never even having the freedom to go to the market to do the shopping and haggle with the sellers, basically having nigh non-existent contact with actual people.

Brilliant video! Pidgin is gaining popularity for a number of reasons. The vocabulary is small (think basic English) yet the infusion of humour, poetry, proverb and words from other languages makes it a very rich vehicle for creative expression. Essentially it’s easy but fun…

9ja Pidgin is a Creole (language), which is the 14th most spoken language in the world, and the 1st most spoken language in Africa. It’s a proper language with verbs, nouns, pronouns, adjectives etc, worlds like “Una”, “Dey”, “Commot”, “Sabi”, “Wetin”, “Abeg”, “Abi”, “Na wa”, “Oya”, “Nko” etc are a few examples. Over 65, 9ja words and phrases have been added to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), from 2020 till date. 9ja pidgin keeps expanding in words, phrases and slangs,❤🇳🇬.

Point of correction Ghana do not have pidgin..they learnt some pidgin words when they migrated to Nigeria to look for jobs during the Ghana must go era thats why they can't speak pidgin wery well.
Apart from 9ja pidgin which is a creole (language) Sierra Leone is the only different pidgin speaker (Krio) which is a language as well, though it has some borrowed 9ja words and phrases. The other west African countries are speaking 9ja pidgin (90%) and that is why their pidgin isn’t recognised as a creole language.
💯

Pls no one should try Ghana pidgin..it's dead on arrival..Dem no Sabi at all

@@KarineLajoie-ne9xpe nor go still better for Ghana. Una go explain tire.
The language was started across the West Coast of Africa before Ghana, Nigerian, Sierra Leone etc were independent countries as they are now. So no country started speaking Pidgin first. Just for the records oga blogger, pidgin na the old Bendel state get pidgin however I will give it to Warri (Delta)people that has fine tuned it. If Warri people speak pidgin it is so smooth that you will forget that na pidgin he de speak. Yoruba pidgin is still developing because if you listen to their movies is always mixed with yoruba and english, always a elm and enhin in their sentences. The igbo seriously they prefer to speak their language it is not as widely spread within their deeper cultural areas however their business men are forced to adopt the pidgin english. The Hausa they are on board too with pidgin but the further you go into the villages pidgin looses its popularity. Pidgin has been adopted as a convenient, common, popular way of communication which is great
