    Great review Megapig,
It's easy to only see the negativity around this game, but at the end of the day it's a doujin game through and through even if it is one with a massive budget comparatively.
I think Touhou fans should be able to easily see what makes this game so special.
It brought us incredible orginal art, a (large) album worth of original music some from artists I NEVER would have expected like Tetsuya Komuro, Kusano Kayoko, PSYQUI etc...
Man, in another world the mobile version would have still been going and imagine what could have been, but in this one we have a standalone version that still has plenty of room to grow and impress.

I beg they add a 3D lane mode, I'm kinda tired of VSRG being only 2D when they are on PC.

As someone who played the mobile version, it's nice to see someone who also misses where characters who don't usually interact, interact with each other. Regardless of the issues, it is nice for this game to be back then be a memory I once enjoyed in the past.

As someone who beat the entire story 2 sessions I didn’t even know that they were elements to cards since I just use the default one that you got at the start the entire game and had no issues 6:53
And I couldn’t do Danmaku stages with a Keyboard to save my life, I had to switch to a controller to do any Danmaku stage
As for achievements for me, they wouldn’t unlock in Steam until I exited the game which could’ve been the reason why for you they didn’t unlock since the game crashed
Though I will agree. This game was really fun and I’ve been coming back to it nonstop

My main issue with the game is music chosen. I understand that they went for popular and recognisable songs by well-known creators but like...They went for a rather serious and even tragic lore so some of those songs are ruining the atmosphere. Same issue with Touhou Lost World by the way.

i've been debating over this game for a while and this review cleared up a bunch of things i was worried about, so thanks! i'll probably wait for a big sale or something while i save up. give it time for more patches too.
i do wish they added regional pricing into account since its quite expensive in my currency, but i understand it's for the licensing fees. still, it seems to be something i'd enjoy a lot so i don't mind.

Oh cool, I'm a big fan of the universe, music, and content around Touhou, but never played any of the games. Cool to know this exists, got to check it out now!
Thanks for bringing light to it bud!

On the topic of voice actors, they added voice acting to touhouvania (1) which didn't originally have it and it caused thr price to jack up. So VAs may have been a budget decision

I never realized that’s why the price for Touhouvania’s re-release was so high. I do love Rina Sato’s Reimu voice though so you give and take I guess lol

This is a good review, though I wanted to add one thing.
I've been trying to get all of the cards and achievements, and it needs to be said that this game is a slugish grindfest for absolutely no reason.
There's the song unlock thing you mentioned, yes, but also having to purchase cards from the shop and/or level up cards requires obscene amounts of dream drops. Several cards require 100k dream drops!!!!
The fastest way to grind for dream drops I found was playing the last danmaku stage with a risky dream drop boost, which gives me 25k per play, but even then I had to grind for literal MILLIONS of dream drops to get everything.
For the record, I did try to get as many cards as possible by simply doing the missions, and I got every Kagura card and most Danmaku cards. The only cards I had left were some Danmaku missions I didn't understand how to do (like getting SS on stages that had few notes and reduced your score when you bomb), and I'm currently only struggling with the one that requires me to get cumulative dealt damage of 10.000.000 HP, which I'm not sure how to measure?
Also for every achievement you need to level 10 mitama cards to max level!!!
Now of course I could simply *not* do any of that, but the question is why is it a thing in the first place? What do the mitama card leveling system even add to the experience? Why are cards so expensive? Why is farming so damn slow?
Most importantly of all, I think this hurts both people who want to get 100% completion and those who appreciate the museum aspect of dankagu (like me!!!!). Needing to do all of this to preserve the phone game art is way too excessive and has no reason to be this slugish.
Anyway I just wanted to say that. Once I'm finished with all of that I'll pretend the game is only Gallery + Free Mode for my own sanity.

Another issue I found was that not all of the challenges show when you look at a danmaku stage

Those are the Random Card Drops I talked about in the video. They probably be should listed somewhere though; I don’t even think it’s on the help screen

Does anyone know how to enable the option to use 6 lanes in easy/normal difficulties?

I really like that aspect of looking at fanworks as a celebration of Touhou and the community. A somewhat worse example, but I like MoP not because it's a top tier anime or anything but because it's really impressive that an fan anime on such a scale can even exist. I'm glad that DanKagu could show that the Touhou community can overcome even EoS (via the collective financial obsession of Touhou fans).
Do you know of any other cases of gacha --> traditionally paid game conversion? I am curious as to how this compares to other cases of this, if there even are any (and if there aren't, well that's even more impressive on DanKagu's end).

Mega Man X Dive made the same jump at a similar price point, but the general response of the community was "well that's cool for preservation at least"

Honestly seeing fan made animations and games made by the community is really impressive and cool! The only other community close to that it's the Sonic one because they make lots of good mods, fan games and animations too. Touhou series has more freedom because fans who worked on those projects can sell too though.

Do you have a link for Kutaka's convo? This might be the only exposure of her signature power in action!

For me, the issue mainly is optimization.
Like, I'm not really a Touhou fan, I suck at danmaku and only in it for the music. So rhythm game like osu! is the only place where I can play Touhou music.... until Dankagu released on mobile 2-3 years ago. The mobile version was so much fun and even tho it had sliding long notes (like Aracaea), I still can even fc some lunatic diff songs with good accuracy. I feel like the mobile version was much more forgiving or maybe it was properly optimized. But then it ended its service.
Now, they remade the game for PC and released it on Steam. I'm glad, but a bit disappointed to say the least. I also have Muse Dash, and that game barely stutter/lag when I play even tho it had so many animations and effects going on. However in Dankagu Steam version, it's just awful. The game always stutters, making it hard to hit note perfectly. Not to mention no option to calibrate either, which is one of the most important aspect in rhythm game.
I'm pretty sure it's not skill issue because I can easily get 95%+ accuracy on either Muse Dash, osu! standard, or osu! mania, but I struggle just to get 90% accuracy in Dankagu Steam.
I wish the devs will keep working on the game to fix, improve, and optimize this game. For people who haven't played the mobile Dankagu, I feel like this version is pretty good. But as someone who did play the mobile version back then, this feels like a massive downgrade.
