Translator here. While I haven't really played the game much(it's not really my cup of tea), the game's writing is honestly fantastic. Obviously I can't speak for the English version, but this is(in my opinion) one of the most well written Chinese fangames I've seen. Some of the conversations might be a bit mundane, but most of them, especially the bond level upgrade ones, are super interesting, and some of the more emotional segments genuinely made me shed tears. The game has taught me a lot about the characters, and it even made me like some of the characters I previously disliked, so I highly recommend the game if you're interested in meeting new characters or just hanging out with familiar ones.
Thanks for your work! I agree with all of this- but to further it, even the mundane stuff is chock full of references(obvious and obscure) that fans of the series would enjoy. Something I neglected to mention in the review is that all the recipes, named customers, and even nameless customers have written descriptions about them. There's a TON of writing that's gone into this, and it really shows the passion that the developers have put into the game.
Thank you for your work! The translation is quite clean. One thing I would advise is not to fall into too many memes; I was kind of put off early on in the game by Chen and Mystia basically spouting memes at each other several lines in a row. Just downright quoting Princess Bride with no particular relation to the situation at hand. Toby Fox's Deltarune is an example of a walking shitpost of a character (Queen) shining in comedy without a single actual meme or reference being used.
I’ll say, I’m very much anti-isekai especially when it comes to touhou. But I see how nice everyone is in this along with the overall chipper attitude it makes me think it wouldn’t be so bad. Then a reminder that consumption of human flesh is absolutely canon to touhou and takes me back to reality. I still love this game, and am proud to say it’s one of (if not THE) only touhou game(s) (fan or canon) I 100%.

Fun fact: if you go to basement you may find an album of fanarts, and the important thing is that two of them at P21 comes from 海猫络合物(more known as Lowlight in the west), the producer of Arknights(in fact he is a Touhou fan since university time)
it's insane how good this fangame is it's an instant touhou classic, with games like Puppet Dance Performance, Luna Nights and Tempest of Heaven and Earth.
And you sir are a masterclass in Touhou content making on UA-cam. Not only the quality of the video in itself is fantastic with the visual cue, sound-mastering and video editing, but you have a perfect grasp on your subject and how to approach it without feeling forced or cringe which the great majority of Touhou UA-camr failed to do. Please, continue to make video like this.
@@GensouChronicle Your channel was an instant sub for me since your first video. It was high quality and brought facts that were genuinely interesting. I like the way you package your videos, the narration is concise and your script is structured to be engaging the whole way through. Good shit.
This Game is a rare example of a Fangame with an understanding that the Franchise, despite having 'battles' in Danmaku as main games or fighting is really about the everyday life of the characters and many great Doujins have their own version of the characters. This game does not fail to make me smile and shed tears of overwhelming joy with it's music, art and character interactions. The food ideas do not fail me to make food. Hell because of this game it is also a great reference point for some of my own fanfiction ideas! More people need to know about this game and more people need to play this who want to get into Touhou if they can't do Bullet Hell. It's just so much LOVE AND CARE that this game gives. A Hard Mode may be nice but I also would love something similar to the trinkets you can obtain through frendship being detriments that you get from Seija as a 'flip' and gives detriments like "Only 3 ingredients total" Nullifying dishes that need 4-5 ingredients already or "Double Cooking time" which enabling them gives some sort of reward at the end or purely for achievements. My only big critique is the price tag. I feel like they're criminally underselling this title with how much is in base alone. I could of easily seen myself pay $10 or even $15 for this kind of quality not including DLC and i'd of been satisfied with my 50+ hour main story game like that.
The only thing keeping me from utterly devouring the rest of this game is that DLC 3 isn't translated yet and I'm already at the point in the game where it's unlocked it's so good man Shoutouts to Wriggle, top tier homie, she may as well be part of the team with how much she covers my total ingredient stock
I personally wasn't sure how much I would enjoy a restaurant simulator game at first, but after picking it up Mystia's Izakaya quickly sucked me in. It really feels like there's a lot of soul to it, that the devs cherish the Touhou universe and the characters and wanted to show their love. As you mentioned, I was pleasantly surprised with how lore accurate it ended up being while also having its own original storyline too. Most importantly, given my 100 hours of play time, I feel that I criminally underpaid for such a lovely game so the DLCs and the soundtrack purchases were a must (especially given how beautiful the music is). Overall, you really nailed this summary and analysis of the charm of Mystia's Izakaya. Looking forward to what both you and the game devs will have in store next. And fingers crossed Kyouko gets to shine more in DLC3.
This was pretty much my thoughts as I played it. The devs had to be huge fans to fill it with as much care and details into everything as they did. I know they have plans for up to a DLC5, so I'm very much looking forward to everything they plan to add.
I wouldn't mind seeing a Puppet dance performance review. As much of a nightmare as it was for me to get the game running properly I really enjoyed it. Me and my Momiji swept through all of Gensokyo collecting handheld consoles!
I had a lot of ideas to do a TPDP video, especially now that it's been getting extended unofficially with mods to include new characters and zones. It really was ahead of actual Pokemon in a lot of ways.
I have to get back to this game. I stopped playing at around the release of DLC 2 to focus on schoolwork, and I never got another chance to play again. I grew up playing restaurant sims and this is probably my favourite one ever.
Luckily, it's super easy to get back to. I stopped playing when I finished up to DLC1 and had to find time to bring myself back for DLC2. But when I did, it was like I never left.
This game is so amazing! I wrote a Steam review a couple weeks ago and it's funny we came to the same conclusion: the game has an incredible level of polish, and the assortment of progression systems and ever-developing friendships keeps you coming back to it. The only bad part about it is that the wiki is empty. It's a shame since I really want to optimize ingredient gathering routes but I'd have to gather all that data by myself. Hopefully with more players that can change.
While I agree that player 'documentation' of strategy and content is needed, I'm not even sure how one would go about gathering optimization, considering what you'll need may change from day to day. What I would like to see though, is guides for all unlockables and maybe lists of dishes that are good at always satisfying the customer. I'm currently sitting on over 600k money, still trying to farm Tewi for an achievement and unlockable, but meanwhile there's a few things I still need to unlock/figure out. Also, maybe a guide on story progression, since there was a point I thought I finished the story, only to find out it was still going.
@@GensouChronicle Optimizing ingredient gathering just came off the top of my head when writing that comment. I definitely agree that the other benefits of a filled-out wiki would be super useful too.
@@Hifuutorian I ask her to visit my Izakaya and then I cook her a cicada slough and a green tea. Its apparently a lot easier to farm her on the last boss though.
@@GensouChronicle Huh, thank you, that's good to know! I just remember her never coming by to my izakaya again with her shop after getting to the bamboo forest of the lost. She was only ever a regular customer. I've beaten the game now and am doing the DLCs so I hope that will trigger her store to open again!
This was the most addicting game I played this year. It was phenomenal, as is your review! Thanks for covering the game! I want more people to experience it! One of the things I liked the most about the game was being able to feel the passion the devs had for Touhou. References to a lot of side content like Akyuu's author side gig from the Forbidden Scrollery, developing new DLC to add even more characters, all the dialogue being very in character, the beautiful soundtrack/song remixes, etc.
My main complaint with the main game was that a lot of the Touhou characters featured in it were your very standard-fare ones (IE Touhou 6-8 cast) which was disappointing considering the developer's previous game had characters like Benben and the Aki sisters playable, but thankfully the DLCs seem to be fleshing that out more. The developers have confirmed the game will hopefully get 5 main DLCs total and a Switch port, so you should consider doing a follow-up video once it's completed. DLC 2.5 seems to really flesh out the rhythm minigame more, DLC 3 supposedly has a really unique feature added instead of a boss fight, and DLC 4 is already confirmed to have Yuuka Kazami, Aya Shameimaru, and Shining Needle Castle in it, which guarantees it'll be great. 10:38 this is also objectively the best outfit to put the bird in.
I'm a fairly lowkey touhou fan but I've played a few of the core games and the sakuya metroidvania, but this game is incredibly special and a must play for any level of investment in the series, even someone who only plays touhou lostword. adorable and inspired visuals, amazing music, cute and sometimes surprisingly heartfelt dialogue, and one of the comfiest gameplay loops in a life sim I can remember. I cannot encourage it enough, the next time its on sale, buy it. Make a cup of tea or cocoa and get a snack and vibe yourself into the stratosphere!
@@GensouChronicle VA-11 Hall-A is definitely the game it reminded me of most yeah. Honestly I'd love to see a blend of the two somehow; the actual drinks part of Mystia doesn't have much going on. But maybe that'd be too many things going on...
Never been happier getting recommended a youtube video. I dropped out of Touhou fandom a few years ago and had no idea something this good got released. I hope you'll cover some more touhou games in the future. Your videos are really chill and fun to watch.
I pre-ordered the Nintendo Switch Special Package edition on AmiAmi just now after finishing your video. I had this title on my radar, cus I felt I probably followed the pixel art designer on Twitter. And adore youzikk's cute work. It's rare to see a fangame ooze this much charm, and be so faithful to the rabbit hole lore that is Touhouverse. I got this gut feeling I need to preorder this, and not expect it to linger around like how I got Koumajou Densetsu 1, 2, and Touhou Luna Nights limited editions. Touhou Mystia's Izakaya feels like something I need to get as a Touhou fan. Anyway great video with a serious tone and down to the point.
I've been watching Touhou content for more than a decade, but only recently I really got into the games (bullet hells really aren't my thing lol, but at least I got 1cc on EoSD). And still blow my mind to see this level of content as a fan game, Touhou fanbase is on a whole new level!
Quite literally, this game is why I'm here watching this video from you in the first place. I never would have gotten into touhou without it, and I think that's maybe the highest praise a fangame can get. Creating new fans for the source materal as well and for themselves.
I got the game on a whim, not even knowing what touhou was (I had previously only ever heard of it or seen references to it). I enjoyed it so much and was genuinely shocked to find out it was a fan game. It was just insanely well made that I naturally assumed it was it's own thing
It´s finally here, Great Review and content as usual!. I really loved this game, I remember when I saw it for the first time, the pixel art and the presentation immediately convinced me. However, I knew that the gameplay was only about cooking and delivering dishes, so I expected that I would drop the game at some point in mid game (I like this type of games but only for short times). But to my surprise, the game somehow always kept me hooked lol. Each day in game that passed, I was intrigued about the story progression, to see new areas, learn new dishes and to know more about each character. This always kept me looking forward to the next day in game. I even got through the whole game when there weren't even any quality changes, had to deal with all the scattered ingredients and other stuff, but that never stopped me from playing it. I currently have DLC1 half pending, and of course the other DLCs. I need to find the right free time to pick it up again. About some of the suggestions: Yes, I would really like a hard mode for the game, I wonder what will happen if you don't complete the money for Chen's deadline (btw, don't tell me if you know). and also I would have liked more interaction with Kyouko and also with the other helpers. A little shjame that you don't see most of them on the map and they are only an option to help you. But still, the game is just beautiful. SPOILER BELOW: ̶B̶t̶w̶.̶.̶ ̶w̶h̶o̶ ̶d̶i̶d̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶l̶e̶t̶ ̶w̶i̶n̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶M̶o̶k̶o̶u̶/̶K̶a̶g̶u̶y̶a̶ ̶c̶o̶m̶p̶e̶t̶i̶t̶i̶o̶n̶?̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶w̶h̶y̶ ̶w̶a̶s̶ ̶M̶o̶k̶o̶u̶?̶
I'm not sure what happens when you fail the deadline, unfortunately. As for the spoiler: It's extremely stacked in one side's favor. You have to actively sabotage the other result to get it. I want to go for it, but I'm not doing a fresh save just for that.
@@GensouChronicle yee, I wanted to be fair by not choosing a favorite but the game already had the winner. I'm lucky that I put a separate savedata right before their competition, good for when I want to get all the achievements. But I hope they add some way to do this without starting all over again
I streamed this game over at Twitch from start to end, in hopes that more people would pick this up. I love this game so much, glad people are covering it as well.
For a (relatively) new channel, your content and style is so well put together! I’m glad I found your channel, definitely subbing and looking forward to watching what you make in the future! Keep it up bro!
The video preview image with Gordon Ramsay makes me yearn for a fic where he or another gourmet chef/critic from the outside world visits and reviews Mystia's restaurant.
Another thing is the localized humor in this game is actually spot on. And It's got Gensokyo Wanderer levels of content, but with the distinction of actually being fun. (And this is coming from someone who likes roguelikes)
Yeah. Some of the 'popular' fan games, I don't really care for. But this one, I like enough to want to bring people to play it. That, and I want them to sell enough copies to get all the planned DLCs funded.
@@GensouChronicle given the record sales numbers they started with (especially in China), I don't think that'll be a problem. lol It's really cool bringing attention to fangames like this, since things like all those gacha keep popping up encouraging their own fan content to an extent (free advertising obviously) the insane leeway Touhou Fangames get is one of the most unique things about the Touhou Fan community. And there are so many good ones coming out recently. And such an insanely lore accurate game is especially appreciated. (Though I do confess to enjoying stupid stuff like Reimu's Awesome Holiday)
This looks amazing, thank you for making me discover it, since it's easily on steam i will for sure give it a shot, plus it's been a lot since the last time i played a touhou fangame Edit: Im now addicted
I enjoy touhou more for the story than for the gameplay. So it was nice to finally 100% a game even if it is fan game. I really hope they release some game merch here in the west.
Great video. I remember me playing this game and thinking 'man this game would be perfect on the nintendo switch' and so I managed to contact the devs and they said that a switch release is in the works for next year. So yeah we can possibly play this great game anywhere.
@@GensouChronicle I am going assume that the switch version will be the main game and every dlc together so i expect there to be a slight price change but I say it is worth it. Oh and I forgot to mention that they do have plans to bring the achievements over as well. Considering there's over 100 it would be a shame to just leave them behind in the port. So I would imagine a in-game achievement system similar to cuphead, terraria and shovel knight. I am so excited for this games future.
I bought this game before it even got an english translation because of how good the devs' other games are. I literally forgot this existed on my account until now lmao I guess I know what I'll be playing tonight
Thanks for uploading this I’ve been meaning to play it it’s been in my library for a while but I’ve never played it but now I put in 25+ hours and I’m not even done!
For a game of this size and depth, it doesn't try to punch above its weight or over-achieve; the devs stay with the consistent theme and improves everything to perfection. A lot of details that matter (for people like me, ofc).
I found this game when it first released without any DLC. I played for so long that I actually missed one of my classes haha! It's fun and makes you think, it's pretty neat and allows you a lot of freedom.
I bought this game roughly 3 days ago and have already 27 hours on it. Bought the DLC package instantly and have already recommended to friends....im no where near done but this game is fantastic and addicting
This game absolutely needs a Hard mode. it's a struggle to actually get a punish spell card, i've even gone an entire run without being punished, and i feel that the punish spell card feature should be used more in normal nights aside from bossfights. The game is just incredibly easy and the only thing I really struggled on was the koishi boss fight but I had a fun time stuggling to complete it. A hard mode would definentally be great for players like me who want more of a challenge. Anyways great review. I have about 140 hours on this game and you covered pretty much everything i would say about this game. This game is amazing and is the best touhou fangame in my eyes. it is a crime it is sold for 5 dollars ... if they add a touhou 14 DLC this game is gonna be my top 1
Glad you enjoyed it! Something I didn't add to my criticisms was that money seemed to lack a realistic function since it was so plentiful. I'm currently sitting at over 600k (currently still trying to buy Reisen from Tewi, but shes not showing up in the stock). I'm hoping one of the DLCs finds another use for it.
@@GensouChronicle The dev actually showcased a quick way to buy Reisen once. During Yuyuko challenge phase 2 you can keep triggering the punishment spell cards from ghost guest summoned. Keep Tewi seated and get rid of everyone else, then you get punishment from Tewi every 10 seconds~🤣
While I agree a hard mode is always a welcome addition to a game I feel like since you played 140 hours you can't really complain about it being easy. How many hours did you play before it got "super easy"? Lol
honestly, mystia's izayaka is just the kind of game that i want to play, it's simply amazing, and i think there are plenty of people out there who also believe the same thing, such a shame that i technically don't have money to experience it
This review is fire fr fr yo. Now if only someone who knows a lot about touhou fandom would make a video about the good old days™ of touhou doujin music scene. When Yellow Zebra, Syrufit, Halozy were still making music and the "recent" departure of FELT. Or another shitpost.
Me, a capital G gamer who prides himself in taking the most challenging path whenever possible: This game is easy? This game kicked my ass so hard I still haven't beaten it a month later!
Very good review makes me appreciate this game more I got this game on sale last year and I had heard about the Touhou project before. But like a lot of western comic books I was afraid to step into it because of how many different games and stories there were and I did not want to start from somewhere that would leave me more confused than intrigued considering how big this world appears to be. I will say that even though some of the dialog / conversations I had no idea or fully understood from a newcomers perspective being introduced to Gensokyo I really have enjoyed it and the more i have played and reached max friendship bond the more I understand who these girls are now. I have put over 70 hours into it and finished the main story (just not beaten the final mission) . going through all the DLCs right now. This has been a great first impression into this universe and I will be more happy to jump in to another game knowing a bit more about the cast. It might be a safe bet but right now I like Reimu , Hong Meiling and Patchoul. All the characters are good but I enjoy when these three are at my Izakaya. speaking of which i need to get back and open it up XD Peace
This was such an entertaining review! The quality was great and the way your little edits gives a bit of humor to the entire thin was nice too. Maybe if you decide to do another fangame, you could try Luna Nights?
There's so much content and so much quality in this game that it's hard to believe it's that cheap. I've been playing it about 2 to 4 hours a day for about two weeks now and not only I can't see the finish line yet, there's still new dialogue, story beats and gameplay mechanics popping up. Granted, being a fangame takes some of the work away designing characters, creating the world, writting backstories and lore, and composing original songs, but there's still a lot being done here. It's a recontextualization like every other fanwork, yes, but there's so much effort put into that it rivals the original on many different angles. It makes me question the philosophy behind creating fanworks in the first place. I never considered a "fan work" something to be considered a "serious work". They can be fun, yeah, but "why would anyone put any real effort into something they did on a whim?". Then I remember that for Touhou, fanworks not only are a-ok, but are endorsed by the creator himself and maybe even by how the series is written, and the pieces start to fall into place. This game and another one I discovered a few days ago, Puppet Dance Perfomance, are the definition of "How can a fan project be this good?". If it sounds like hyperbole that's probably because I tend to mumble a lot lol I just want to make my points as straight as possible.
I am playing this game while I am watching the video. Well I would'nt say watching because I am listening to it. This game is very chill especially after a whole day of work. Defenitely a very good game even if you are not familiar with Touhou Project. Edit: Watching this video gave me some spoilers. Which is good because I am looking forward to getting them. Like hiring Yumeko or serving the 3 fairies. Gonna continue playing after maxing my bond levels with the characters at the base game first.
Thanks! I definitely want to cover them one day since I assisted with a couple of them. I might wait until the bannerlord one is either in a released state, or I get an idea if it's maybe not gonna happen.
Am I who wants a Luna Nights sequel ? or spin off. For example Yukari makes a world using yuyukos forgotten memories of her human life, Yuyuko would have to go through her past and the final boss being fighting herself merging with the ayakashi tree, the ending being Yuyuko finding out shes the one sealing said tree. leading to a tear jerker ending.
God there’s so much love in this game! Along with awaiting for a translation of dlc4, I’m excited to see what they do next. I kinda wish maybe in the late game that some “boss” characters would come to the shop as casual guests if the befriending system is out of the question, and maybe add some postgame quests for the main and dlc so that certain areas that could theoretically hold more than 3 friend characters could open up (characters like flandre and koishi) Hell, just add Ran. Feels weird that you get to befriend Chen and meet Yukari, but no Ran
So, maybe I'm missing what you're saying, but the boss characters DO come to your Izakaya! I won't spoil anything, but I regularly have the main game boss, and DLC 1+2 bosses at my Izakaya depending on where I set up. As for Flandre and Koishi, I don't want to spoil things, but they get content.
Oh! I see that I’m just not far enough yet haha, thanks nonetheless. I guess that makes me excited both for future translation and dlc in general, there’s so many characters and locales that could be added Though with it the ultimate question, would they have a dlc where Mystia goes to the moon lmao
This was before DLC 1. After beating the final boss I had nothing else to do. Then I remember Tewi was selling a Reisen? LVL10 for 53k yen. Took me 2 weeks of grinding cause the best place to get money was at the Mountain(dlc1). Found out after purchasing it, instead of selling Reisen, Tewi made it so your Assistance helps you for free. Though Tewi accused me for cheating using save state apparently. ;/
@@GensouChronicle Go visit TEWI at the Bamboo forest and invite her and only her to come visit your izakaya. OR you can just host the Izakaya at the bamboo forest. @@GensouChronicle Your channel was an instant sub for me since your first video. It was high quality and brought facts that were genuinely interesting. I like the way you package your videos, the narration is concise and your script is structured to be engaging the whole way through. Good shit.
I'm not even into Touhou! Yet. Maybe. But the consistently fantastic quality of presentation and passion for the subject is very magnetic.
Working in food service probably would have been more fun if I could pause time and throw dishes perfectly to customers.
Working food service is the worst. Unless you're Reisen. Then you get extra tips apparently.
every day gensouchronicle uploads is a good day
Believe me, it's a good day for me too.
@@GensouChronicle well that means it's a win-win for everyone! you have a good day, we have a good day!
The only thing keeping me from utterly devouring the rest of this game is that DLC 3 isn't translated yet and I'm already at the point in the game where it's unlocked
it's so good man
Shoutouts to Wriggle, top tier homie, she may as well be part of the team with how much she covers my total ingredient stock
Getting people to gather for you is so good.

I swear I've never had a more instant love for a game than opening up Mystia's Izakaya for the first time.
It's super polished. I'm eagerly awaiting the translation for DLC3.
@@GensouChronicle Me too man it should be as good as if not better than the rest of the game. Also great content! :D

It's such a great game.
@@GensouChronicle Another video on a game that practically became one of my favorite games of all time and while I'm playing it? What are the odds!
Oh god I now remember playing the entirety of it in japanese and enjoying the fuck out of it really a lot
Tpdp is unironically my favorite pokemon game
2:17 "Say goodbye to ya kneecaps, chucklehead!"
@@GensouChronicle How do you start farming Tewi again anyhow? She's never come by my store to sell me stuff again after progressing through the story.
It's great. Meanwhile I'm STILL finding things I missed that I didn't even know existed. It's insane.
Yeah, I'm hoping to see the cast fleshed out a bunch over the next few releases. Not just in characters but dishes, locations, and outfits.
Yeah, it has that sort of 'get comfy and relax' vibe. Much like VA-11 Hall-A.
@@GensouChronicle VA-11 Hall-A is definitely the game it reminded me of most yeah. Honestly I'd love to see a blend of the two somehow; the actual drinks part of Mystia doesn't have much going on. But maybe that'd be too many things going on...
mystia's izakaya is an amazing fangame, glad you did a video on it
Never been happier getting recommended a youtube video.
Built diff.
Zun giving semi free range for the game helps
Quite literally, this game is why I'm here watching this video from you in the first place. I never would have gotten into touhou without it, and I think that's maybe the highest praise a fangame can get. Creating new fans for the source materal as well and for themselves.
I wholeheartedly agree. A great fangame is one that can be enjoyed by someone who may not even be a fan of the original series.
Ong I didn't expect you to review this game, about to watch, it's fucking great
I got the game on a whim, not even knowing what touhou was (I had previously only ever heard of it or seen references to it).
About some of the suggestions:
Yes, I would really like a hard mode for the game, I wonder what will happen if you don't complete the money for Chen's deadline (btw, don't tell me if you know).
and also I would have liked more interaction with Kyouko and also with the other helpers. A little shjame that you don't see most of them on the map and they are only an option to help you.
But still, the game is just beautiful.

I'm not sure what happens when you fail the deadline, unfortunately. As for the spoiler: It's extremely stacked in one side's favor. You have to actively sabotage the other result to get it. I want to go for it, but I'm not doing a fresh save just for that.

yee, I wanted to be fair by not choosing a favorite but the game already had the winner.
I'm lucky that I put a separate savedata right before their competition, good for when I want to get all the achievements.
But I hope they add some way to do this without starting all over again
I let Kaguya win purely by accident...
...but the award for doing so was very much worth it.
I streamed this game over at Twitch from start to end, in hopes that more people would pick this up. I love this game so much, glad people are covering it as well.
thanks for recommending this game! im brand spanking new to this series and I just bought and played the game nonstop for hours
Glad you are enjoying it. I recently got all the achievements and am waiting for the third DLC to be translated.
this is a great video, i'm definitely going to get this game. you've swayed me. keep up the great content man.
Looks amazing. Definitely gonna pick it up along with the DLCs.
Glad to hear!
Never have I been so interested in a fan game other than Luna Nights until I have seen this video. Definitely going to try it out!
Glad to hear it. It's a real treat of a game.
I declare that you are the best Touhou-tuber in Gensokyo. Love your contents !
I bought it after getting a ad of him on Blooming Chaos 2 already on early launch, best thing i ever done
For a (relatively) new channel, your content and style is so well put together! I’m glad I found your channel, definitely subbing and looking forward to watching what you make in the future! Keep it up bro!
Thank you. I've been enjoying pretty consistent success since starting. I'm hoping to continue that into the new year.
I do appreciate how much in-depth mechanics there are for a pixel game.
I was gonna get this for me and my sister and then you said adaptive music and am going to give it a 10/10 after playing a minute of it
Haha, yeah!
Damn this looks fun, can't believe I'm hearing about it for the first time
It's still pretty recent. But this is also why I'm trying to bring attention to it.
I CANT WAIT FOR SSETH TO REVIEW THIS GAME!
Hey hey people.
This game is already awesome for the fact that it has Narumi Yatadera in it she’s one of my favorite characters that are kind of underrated
She gives one of the best dishes in the game too.
great review!!! i already wanted this game but i am definitely buying now!!!
Cool! 👍👍👍
The video preview image with Gordon Ramsay makes me yearn for a fic where he or another gourmet chef/critic from the outside world visits and reviews Mystia's restaurant.
I want him to show up in the last DLC as the final boss.
This game is what got me into Touhou. It's amazing.
And that's why it's masterclass!
@@GensouChronicle given the record sales numbers they started with (especially in China), I don't think that'll be a problem. lol
It's really cool bringing attention to fangames like this, since things like all those gacha keep popping up encouraging their own fan content to an extent (free advertising obviously) the insane leeway Touhou Fangames get is one of the most unique things about the Touhou Fan community. And there are so many good ones coming out recently.
And such an insanely lore accurate game is especially appreciated.
(Though I do confess to enjoying stupid stuff like Reimu's Awesome Holiday)
This looks amazing, thank you for making me discover it, since it's easily on steam i will for sure give it a shot, plus it's been a lot since the last time i played a touhou fangame
Edit: Im now addicted
Haha. Glad you're enjoying it.
I enjoy touhou more for the story than for the gameplay. So it was nice to finally 100% a game even if it is fan game.
I really hope they release some game merch here in the west.
Sound really interesting, I'll put it on my list and give it a try someday.
Great video. I remember me playing this game and thinking 'man this game would be perfect on the nintendo switch' and so I managed to contact the devs and they said that a switch release is in the works for next year. So yeah we can possibly play this great game anywhere.
Yup. 2 more dlc planned as well if the sales continue.
@@divertedgamer1050 Yeah, most likely a definitive edition of some sort. Honestly, I think it would be smart of them to release some merch as well.
@@tomkarlouie24 Yup. I'm mostly parroting recent responses from the devs.
I bought this game before it even got an english translation because of how good the devs' other games are. I literally forgot this existed on my account until now lmao
I guess I know what I'll be playing tonight
Thanks for uploading this I’ve been meaning to play it it’s been in my library for a while but I’ve never played it but now I put in 25+ hours and I’m not even done!
It’s also my new favourite touhou fangame
For a game of this size and depth, it doesn't try to punch above its weight or over-achieve; the devs stay with the consistent theme and improves everything to perfection. A lot of details that matter (for people like me, ofc).
For sure.
I found this game when it first released without any DLC. I played for so long that I actually missed one of my classes haha! It's fun and makes you think, it's pretty neat and allows you a lot of freedom.
This game, it's curing my PTSD from years of exposure to Dark Souls.
my first time on your channel. you sound professional and talented.
@@maxwang7937 That's actually a pretty good idea...
While I agree a hard mode is always a welcome addition to a game I feel like since you played 140 hours you can't really complain about it being easy. How many hours did you play before it got "super easy"? Lol
@theodorejenkins6066 this was a year ago when in 140 hours I beat the game twice including all dlcs and 100% the game(I really liked the game)
honestly, mystia's izayaka is just the kind of game that i want to play, it's simply amazing, and i think there are plenty of people out there who also believe the same thing, such a shame that i technically don't have money to experience it
This game has the most beautiful background pixelart I've ever seen.
Imagine playing Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya on your Steam Deck
Me atm, controller with pc, esport moment xD
I absolutely loved playing the game. It was truly worth the money for both the game and dlc
For sure.
omg i was just watching your videos
Glad to hear that!
This review is fire fr fr yo. Now if only someone who knows a lot about touhou fandom would make a video about the good old days™ of touhou doujin music scene. When Yellow Zebra, Syrufit, Halozy were still making music and the "recent" departure of FELT. Or another shitpost.
I miss FELT like you wouldn't believe. Hell, everyone you named and more.
As someone pretty uninterested in bullethell games, the fangames of touhou really makes me want to play. The fan music is also absolutely amazing.
Me, a capital G gamer who prides himself in taking the most challenging path whenever possible: This game is easy? This game kicked my ass so hard I still haven't beaten it a month later!
Eh...
Very good review makes me appreciate this game more
I got this game on sale last year and I had heard about the Touhou project before.
Thanks for sharing!
This was such an entertaining review! The quality was great and the way your little edits gives a bit of humor to the entire thin was nice too.
Maybe if you decide to do another fangame, you could try Luna Nights?
Luna Nights is definitely a consideration!
If it sounds like hyperbole that's probably because I tend to mumble a lot lol
I just want to make my points as straight as possible.
I would love to see Rhythm Carnival! Scarlet and Koumajou Densetsu spotlighted here, even though everyone already knows those games.
Rhythm Carnival would be fun to cover, for sure.
The rabbit hole of 'secret' things goes so deep. It's crazy.
I would love to see a vid about mount and blade! Also I love your editing videos.
I love this game! I need to finish this lovely game. It’s amazing and so cute.
Definitely recommend it. There's so much content to it, and I'm not even finished.
This game is so cozy and warm. Reminds me of Summer nights with friends. ^^

just bought this on steam and i’m so playing this after watching
You're in for a ride
I am not really into cooking and serving games, but from what I have seen, the game is really nice for those who like or want to try this genre
i bought this game just recently cuz of sales ITS ADDIDCTING!!!!
It's great.
God there’s so much love in this game! Along with awaiting for a translation of dlc4, I’m excited to see what they do next. I kinda wish maybe in the late game that some “boss” characters would come to the shop as casual guests if the befriending system is out of the question, and maybe add some postgame quests for the main and dlc so that certain areas that could theoretically hold more than 3 friend characters could open up (characters like flandre and koishi)
Hell, just add Ran.
I guess that makes me excited both for future translation and dlc in general, there’s so many characters and locales that could be added
Though with it the ultimate question, would they have a dlc where Mystia goes to the moon lmao
I didnt watch a second of the video but I still agreed with everything that you said.
Though Tewi accused me for cheating using save state apparently. ;/
I can currently afford her already, but she never seems to appear in the shops anymore. I was hoping to get her before the new DLCs drop.
@@GensouChronicle Go visit TEWI at the Bamboo forest and invite her and only her to come visit your izakaya. OR you can just host the Izakaya at the bamboo forest. Thank you for the very thorough review, I am actually interested in the Touhou story but I am not really into the gameplay. Was seeing this game in Steam the other day, it piqued my interest since I like this kind of game. After seeing your review, I am absolutely will buy this game and all it's DLC!
If you're interested in Touhou's story and canon, I recommend checking out my video explaining all the Touhou canon sources. There's a lot of written works that can be enjoyed without touching the games.
Great video, but now here's an idea.
I challenge you to explain the storyline of Usami Sumireko and her doppelganger/dream self shenanigans, cause that shit is really confusing. It touches three different games and even a chapter of curiosities of lotus asia
8:09 this made me involuntarily cackle
What a great video. You should really do UA-cam fulltime if you don't already.
My actual job pays too much for me to consider that for a long while lol
Kinda late but I like how when idle, Hina spins
god I love this game
i really love this game, its chill, fun, and challenging. thats what games are for! (also a steal for only 6 dollars...VERY WORTH IT!!!)
Your channel reminds me quite a bit of Mortismal Gaming. He's a smaller game reviewer I discovered a year ago who's been really picking up steam as of late because he puts out genuinely well researched, technical reviews. I must say, I really really REALLY enjoyed your review of this random game I found while browsing the Steam store. I hope you continue to make more video game reviews. I think you've got what it takes.
Also small side note, but are you a fan of TotalBiscuit? It's been years since his passing (RIP) and watching you go through the options/settings menu at the start really reminded me of him, since many reviews these days don't touch on that aspect at all.
Big fan of him, yeah.
this game brings massive surprises
I will seriously pay twice more for an update that'll make me play this with other people. I hope the devs consider it!!!
Multiplayer would be awesome
