Kyosho Optima Pro Legendary Series & My Plans

In this video I talk the upcoming rerelease of the Kyosho Optima Pro in the Kyosho Legendary Series and also about my plans to build a Kyosho Optima Pro out of a standard Kyosho Optima, using a repro body, wheels, tyres and decals. Although the Optima Pro is still being rereleased, I will continue with original plans to build one myself using the parts I have as the rerelease has different coloured alloy parts, which I don't think lok quite as good as the original. That said, I think I will still get the rerelease! :)

I’d use the decals for that build you plan on doing! I’m quite happy the Pro is coming. Hopes when Kyosho made the body for the prototype, I had my fingers crossed they would bring this back.
Haha, no way! I mean if you're referring to the big decals, as in the like rere Optima how they used all decals to basically make the paint job.
That's kinda 95% the reason for continuing with my initial plan. The paint job is probably gonna be a pain to do but for me it's all about the challenge. I think that's why I never built my rere Optima, after painting the original, the rere didn't seem to exciting. 🤷♂️
Yeah, I had a suspision the Pro would come back. It's so close to the original Optima they'd be silly not to bring it back, they already had 99% of the parts. Great to see it back though! My crystal ball says the Turbo Ultima and Ultima Pro may not be too far away either! 😁🤞🤞

Yeah they're not easy to come by. I've had this one for a lot of years, finally restored it about a year ago. I'll leave a link to the video, maybe it'll be helpful if you do find one and need to restore it. Good luck in your search! 👍

Hoping this one will turn out as planned. For the Pro it's all about getting the paint job right, so fingers crossed! I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of the Ultimas. I really think they'll bring back the Turbo and Pro, purely because they have 90% of the parts for both in the standard Ultima. Lets hope! 🤞

Your magic Custom Ultima looks hot!. Yeh I remember you showing the alloys before too, they're nice. Yeah I thought I'd shown them before. Getting old now, I forget a lot 😂. The Pro looks awesome, the body is so low and sleek. Those body details, like the ones you mentioned plus the bobtail just looks awesome and who would have thought brown would ever work too but they pulled it off though!
No probs at all mate. I really wish I have of stuck to my plan and got my Pro done earlier, oh well.
I'll still do it though as I really want to do this paint job, even if it is a total pain.

I meant the rear spoiler, or bobtail, I'm not really sure what they call them, but yeah the one on the roof is also a nice touch.

Hello Sir. Good to watch your videos and they gives a lot of information. I appreciate them. I just bought the Kyosho Optima Mid 2022 and just finished the body. The paintwork is good with the tamiya PS sprays, but to place the decals right can be hard. Either you place them a bit wrong with the angels or maybe you will get some airbubbles underneath them. I´m strugling to try to get this right, but I can never get it to look precisely right as the originals. Maybe I just have to practice more...it means purchasing more kits and that is not so bad anyway. Well as said befor I really appreciate your videos. Best regards from Hans, Copenhagen Denmark.
Mick, that's cool! So you beat Kyosho on the Ultima build (awesome paint job, BTW!), but this one they got you? You almost got it ready in time, he he... Well, good you had it safely stored and ready, it didn't rust in pieces, he he... I'll be looking forward to this one, whether you hurry get yours built, or it's the release that comes first... I'm actually quite keen on it myself, it looks cool, and from what I could see, a bit cheaper than the Turbo Optima, so might be good for someone like me, might need to add a rear wing, though...
G'day Mads! Thanks mate. Haha, well the Ultima was really just a resto/mod but yeah I guess I had the slipper and stuff in mine before Kyosho did. Funny, someone actually reminded me that I may not be beaten with the Pro just yet, as it won't actually be out till late June. So if I get onto mine I may just beat them 😂

Yeah it kinda seems pointless for me to do mine now but since they've changed alloy colours to colours I'm not really keen on, I might as well continue. I'll probably end up with both at some point anyway 😂.

Always good great to be here, things get in the way sometimes though. I think I saw something about the FAV coming back, good stuff! I have a XB version of the FAV and I've never even run it 😬. They are a pretty cool beast though and great for modifying. Maybe I'll add the FAV to my wish list and see what can be done with it. Thanks mate! 🙂👍

I just found out that my OG Optima has the Optima Gold Package put on so I am going to wait until the Pro upper tray becomes available, buy the Turbo and turn it into my runner.

Do you play any instruments? Just thought I'd ask cause I see you wearing metal shirts. I took up guitar recently and just curious if you play drums or any instruments
Haha, I wish! I do have a guitar and amp but couldn't even get past Smoke On The Water, so the guitar is just an ornament now 😂. I've always been into metal and other music too but metal is always there, and always worn the shirts. I hope you do better than I did with the guitar. Good luck with it! 🙂👍

I'll have to get back to you on that. I'm thinking I'll be mixing my own but maybe using Tamiya Camel Yellow as a base. Not sure if I'll do it in layers, like Yellow backed with Camel Yellow. Or maybe I'll decant them and mix.
Then another option is using Createx airbrush paint and mixing it, which might be the easiest option.
I'm hoping to get started on it very soon so keep and eye out for the video. 🙂👍

Is that a triumph body on your ultima
Yes it is! At the time I had a Triumph and a load of parts. This Ultima was actually built from about 70% Pro XL parts, the Triumph body, some rere Optima parts, some custom parts and a handful or other bits. Don't ask what the wing is though as I can't remember for the life of me 😂. The side plates and stuff I made but the wing itself, no idea! 🙂👍
I’m going to pass on the pro. I have a Turbo I built into a Javelin. I painted the turbo body too so I can change back and forth. I’m waiting on the Turbo Optima Mid Special.

Sorry, that I don't know but I think they'll be a similar price to the base Optima. Just now I'm seeing $639.99 at Metro Hobbies here in Australia. 👍
Bit of a shame as the Pro is basically the same again.
I guess it wouldn't be a Pro if it was too different but I get what you mean. Although it looks the same it is quite different up close. Belt drive instead of chain, hex hardware, the newer gears and so on. I just would have preferred they left it with silver alloy chassis parts and red shocks. 🙂👍

Hey folks, just a warning about the Pargu Store fellow, not the best at correcting their mistakes. Sent me some Avante wheels (gold & black) that looked like they’d been left in the sun for months. Terrible-looking things though the wheel machining was excellent, credit where it’s due. One of the wheel locks was also threaded so had to be recut with a larger screw. Just a head’s up. Think ignoring my complaint will go away, the poor soul :) :)
