My old man was on the old Blue bottomed girl. I remember everybody from Portsmouth always saw the ships return. We are damn proud in Pompey. If you looked up to the top of Portsdown Hill we put up the White Ensign and Union jack on the front of the whole house. They were massive and could be seen from the coast. I remember my mum and dad went for a drink on his return and they always wore your ship's jumpers and they were not allowed to pay for anything-customers were patriotic people and looked after their sailors. For the record, Exeter shot down an Exocet with Sea Dart and not that 'Bull' about the 4.5" Gun from someone else. They had their kills chalked up!!!
My dad was on Exeter in '82. My brother and I followed in his footsteps years later. Matt served on York, Edinburgh and Cardiff, me for a short while on Liverpool. All of us retired from RN service now.
I served on board KNM Oslo in 1992 under Stanavforlant. HMS Exeter was one of the ships in the fleet. And I had the honor of being able to sail aboard HMS Exeter for 4 days.
This ship was attacked the 1st of may 1982 along with the HMS Arrow and the HMS Sheffield. Sheffield was hit by 250 lbs bombs from Argentine Air Force planes. The three ships were south of Puerto Argentino attacking the airport with naval fire, when they were caught by surprise by three Dagger aircraft. This was the second time the british invaded and attacked the islands... 1833 and 1982. Shame on you!
HMS Sheffield was hit by a Exocet , launch from an Armada (Navy) Super Super Étendard, I was in the Task Force on HMS Plymouth, at lease get your facts right cock.
I thinki you're wrong mate, Sheffield was hit by an Argie Exocet launched from a Super Etendard, the three ships that were bombed on May 1st were Glamorgan, Arrow and Alacrity, Glamorgan's stern was straddled by two bombs but suffered no damage, I know because I was in the 901 TS at the time, heard both the bombs and the aircraft passing overhead. We locked onto the outgoing aircraft with the 901 at minimum range but the Ops Room never issued an engage order because the target was no longer considered a threat. Never understood that, should have splashed him before he had a chance to return home, refuel, rearm and have another go!
These islands have British graves on that are older than Argentina itself as a modern country. But you'd rather support a regime that was a far right fascist one. Shame on you.
The Falklands have never been Argentinian mate.. Too busy torturing the Incas. Spanish Conquistadors. An Anglophone I assume from the tone of your comments.
