I was just listening to Furtwangler's 1943 recording of this, then stumbled onto this... no words, just tears. Furtwangler's recording didn't make me feel half of what this did.

After listening to this a bunch and proberly comparing it with the full movement of the symphony i gotta say:
although I´m glad that this musical idea was developed in and for full symphonic instrumentation, the string quartett format can express the intimacy of the music way better. For me this movement (and the whole symphony for that matter) was always about love, and while symphonic instrumentation can produce that feeling of intensity and "all encompasing" emotion way better, I´m kind of dissapointed that it cannot express this intimacy as well as a string quartett could.
I just want to thank you again for uploding this, you cannot imagine how much it means to me! And altough I´ve since seen that there are more than just your versoin available, yours was the first that brought me to this idea and has much less love (in terms of views) that it deserves.

Interesting since Beethoven actually intented to use this theme for one of his String quartets

Is this true ? If so , would you please educate me ? I’m actually curious about this

@@jamiedunn6543 I dont know whether it is true tbh. But in the german wikipedia article of the symphony says so, the score version of "Bärenreiter" mentions it and I aswell read a book about Beethoven in which this was mentioned. Beethoven apparently intented to use the theme in his 9th string quartet but decided against it and used it 5 (!) years later for his 7th symphony. ofc these facts can never be confirmed with certainty but I am relatively confident in this fact, although I am not a beethoven ecpert or even a professional musician, so idk whether I have sufficient knowledge to judge the authenticity of this information. Kind regards!

The citation given on wikipedia is the following: "Alan Tyson: The Razumovsky Quartetts. Some Aspects of the Sources. In: Alan Tyson (Hrsg.): Beethoven Studies. Band 3. Cambridge 1982, S. 126 f." but I couldnt find it :D

Doing this right now for a cello group of ten so might be a lot of shifting as we have to play in treble but it sure is worth it
