    When he starts to talk about canons white balance, I realized that he is a nikon fan boy, I love nikon theyre much more sharper and has better dynamic range than canons in general, but I shot people, I shot editorials weddings and so on, so of course I stick with Canon for its better skin tone and color reproduction, saves a lot of time in the editing, especially when you shot like 1k pics at once. For me, the ISO comparison beyond 6400 is quite pointless, I've never shoot with ISO beyond 3200 with my 5d mk iii

    The auto-focus points in both cameras cover the exact same amount of space in the frame, additionally Canon has dual-pixel auto-focus, he didn't mention that which is one of the best things the 1DX II has. So for me this review is not objective.

    The Canon allows users to customize the delete button to hover over "cancel" by default or "delete" which makes deleting an image very easy. Use the scroll wheel next time and get economical with your finger movements. You can even customize the zoom button to zoom in 100% to the AF point. See it's out of focus and press "delete-set" and never mover your fingers. Reviewing and deleting images on a Canon is a very strong point of the camera, few reviewers explore customizing anything beyond shooting features.
    How about assigning AI-Servo to AF-ON and then One-Shot to the * button? And being able to customize those parameters such as which zone or Servo function...amazing stuff that catapults the 1DX2 over the Nikon.
    With more seat time on the Canon you may find it to be a much more user friendly experience. Seems the only people that think Nikons are better laid out are Nikon shooters and everyone else thinks Canons are. The backlit buttons would be nice on occasion, however!

      Nikon d5 allows foolishly high iso's that look awful, it's just an advertisment gimmick for non professionals.
      The pixel peepers and tech geeks. Cameras like the 1dx mii and d5 look the same at 102,400. And anything higher they just get blotchy and dirty looking.

    My last film camera was the Nikon F5 which I eventually sold to purchase a D200. Admittedly at the time the F5 was superior in every way except it wasnt digital.
    Over the next 2-4 years the camera basically disappeared. The market shifted and went on an upward digital trajectory.
    I'm getting the same feeling about both the 1 Dx ii and the D5. The cameras right behind them are becoming so feature rich and more affordable they're going to blow by these things probably in 2-4 years.
    The a99ii just debuted shooting 12fps 42MP raw, the olymous em-1 mk ii shoots 18fps raw and 60fps grabs from video. The new gh5 is going to have 4k 60fps and internal 10bit 4:2:2.
    Its just a matter of time. These cameras are incredible but their running out of time

    • @improver1849
      @improver1849 8 років тому

      Great points! And the people who are after speed, are doing zooms with extreme telephoto lenses, as well. Something like the new OMD EM-1 MK II with it's hyper speed, next gen features and 2x crop could be actually excellent for sports, wild life and even paparazzi .
      I haven't looked at shots yet from the D5, but I've looked at plenty from the 1DX II. That camera is definitely built for speed, not photo quality. Not that the photo quality is bad, but... The smaller sensor Olympus might just equal it, if not exceed it's IQ. I recently bought the lowest end OMD to try with my PannyLeica lenses (was considering dumping m43 completely) and was shocked at how good the photos are the little cheap guy makes. Oly is impressive.
      The 4K, though, from the 1DX is spectacular, and the dual pixel autofocus is equally as impressive. Still, a C300 Mark II is still perhaps worth the extra $ for video, as it's still a more integrated video package. Or perhaps a C300 as main cam and 1DX for b cam makes sense. I don't quite know. I have a bunch of camera already (included some Samsungs which autofocus almost as well as the Canons), so I decided to wait it on the video end to see what Sony introduces this year. If they don't introduce anything amazing, and if I can get my head around handling the huge 4k files from Canon, then I may just go for the C300 II and/or 1DX II. Their 4K sure is beautiful. Very filmic. Almost like a high end Panavision or Alexa cam w/ those artistic Cooke lenses.

    • @trevorpinnocky
      @trevorpinnocky 8 років тому

      Personally, if the em-1 lives up to its billing, i think it's on a short list of candidates for camera of the year, probably neck and neck with the GH5.
      This is the issue I have with Canon, a very clear lack of confidence leads them to cripple their products in a way which actually limits their audience.
      Here's the thing mjpeg is a very clear effort to protect the cinema line. But mjpeg makes workflow on the 1dx ii, a camera supposedly designed for speed, doggedly slow. So, what, you go out and shoot 11fps so you can rip through your subject matter and then leave the computer running overnight while it transcodes 15 minutes of footage? I'm exaggerating, of course.
      But, someone looking at the 1dx ii is in all likelihood not a candidate for a content video camera like the c300 or c500. They want a DSLR. That's why they bought it. So give them a flexible feature set. Give them the option to shoot h.264, mjpeg or whatever they like. You're charging them more than you would for a C100. Don't be stingy.
      Quite honestly, I don't know who the camera is for. If they just put the right codec in it, I would say sports shooter/writer, event shooter/filmographer. But those guys need ease of use. mjpeg is not an ease of use scenario.
      I don't think commercial shooters are gonna be interested. At that price point they're gonna go ursa or ursa mini 4.6k and get 15 stops DR and proper codecs and log.
      Cinema guys aren't even gonna look at it because they're gonna take the RED Raven and spend $8 or $9k and built that out and absolutely destroy this camera. Or even a BM 4.6, Kinefinity Terra 5k or 6k, all of which are at a different level in terms of video workflow.

    Low light comparisons are always helpful but only tell part of the story relative to how the cameras compare to each other in daylight conditions. The absence of any daylight comparison tests is strange to say the least.

    A camera should be fast, when I say fast I mean how a camera reacts to my commands. A professional chooses a camera with fantastic ergonomics.
    The choice is clear in Canon ergonomics: if you're a full-time sports, news, outdoors or action pro, the 1D X mii is your camera.
    the reason pros demand the 1D X mii is simple. If you work with things that don't move under nice sunny skies all day, then as soon as things start to move you need the speed of the 1D X mii, and as soon as it starts to blow... rain or snow, the 1D X mii gets going.
    Canon has multiple nine buttons+two dials that can be custom set for...
    (ONE TOUCH)commands to change the way your camera shoots,providing the photographer with eleven different options. Canon has dual back button options you can change the entire camera to operate as a totally different camera with register recall function.
    With Nikon you get three buttons for three options in one touch control.

  • @thesharpercoder
    @thesharpercoder 5 років тому

    What good is having 150+ AF points when you can only select 55 of them. The Canon has 61 selectable AF points. What is the difference? Spot Focusing. Either camera can use any of the selectable AF points in Spot Focus mode.
    The Nikon AF points have supplementary AF points that surround the selectable AF points. These supplementary AF points help to expand the coverage of the selectable AF points.
    Canon has two focusing modes on an AF point, Spot Focusing and a slightly larger, normal AF point focusing mode. Spot focusing is just what it sounds like, autofocusing is a very small spot. The normal AF point mode is expanded, and larger than the spot AF point, due to an AF point that is larger overall. .
    In other words the Canon AF points have the same expanded coverage feature as the Nikon AF points, but with one basic difference. Canon has 61 selectable AF points and the Nikon has 55 selectable AF points.
    It is pretty obvious that we were watching a Nikon enthusiast in this video. His lack of familiarity with the Canon bodies was obvious when he compared the video. Canon uses Dual Pixel Auto Focus for video.
    While he was going on about not being able to use the touch screen to focus on the Canon, he should have left it be. The Canon an refocus and track subjects in video mode, which the Nikon cannot do. Canon bodies are the only DSLRs that can autofocus with tracking in video mode.

    Drawbacks on both on these bricks:
    1. No ATG Penta BOSS
    2. Reduction/close to half frame in 4K
    3. Can not save video on computer with Canon WFT/Nikon WT
    4. No WiFi
    5. No flexible LCD
    6. Nikon can't use Canon lenses
    Just move over or try testing these amateur cameras for under $4,000.00:
    Sony SLT-A99 II and Olympus OM-D E-M1 II
    Both have ATG Penta BOSS
    WiFi plus live-view to computer
    ATG Focus Peaking on all lenses
    Flexible LCD
    Canon/Hasselblad/Red/Leica/Olympus/Nikon lenses are compatible w/ATG Penta BOSS

    Canon 1DX II (iTR AF Tech) actually has the WORST AF Tracking Prediction,
    when compared to Sony a9 (4D Focus) or Nikon D5 (3D Tracking)
    Quote from DPreview;
    Our Sony A9 initial impressions line up with these claims: every now and then the camera might lose the subject, but it very quickly returns, something we can't say about the Canon 1D X II when its "predictive algorithm fails."

    When you said "the two biggest behemoths" I thought you were going to say something about the woman at 23:13. Sorry that's where my mind went.

    Really it would have been good to test both with fast moving subjects to show the amazing AF system in the D5 which beats the canon. These sort of subjects are too easy for these cameras.

      Canons AUTO FOCUS has fewer focus points but Canon has different case settings like,the ability for the user to follow focus on different subjects. Whether you subject is moving erratic or moving in a constant motion. The ability to stay locked on to the subject or to focus on a subject suddenly entering the frame. And each case can be changed by the user to respond differntally for individual settings.

    Seems like a Nikon fan boy. He would say something good abount Canon and then be like "well Nikon does this better" And the High ISO at 800,000 is double what canon can do. It looked like dog shit. Canon doesn't go that high because it's pointless!!! Not a good unbiased review to me. Way too into Canon.

    • @TapRackandBang
      @TapRackandBang 7 років тому

      I second that. You can clearly see his bias towards Nikon. I understand everyone has a favorite as mine is Canon but when your doing a review for a lot of people, it seems like we agree it needs to be facts and unbiased points. Not sugar coating something. Sure light up buttons are cool but your right even a week with your camera you should have the buttons down no problem. Well said

      And the part about him saying the D5 can compete with Canon on video I find to be not true. Nikon has no cinema cameras whatsoever, Canon does. Personally id have to say Canon has the video secured but that's just my opinion

    • @TRealGz
      @TRealGz 7 років тому +1

      CrypticMediaTV He did criticise the Nikon for having pointless ISO levels. In fact, he even roasted here and there. Maybe you should fucking open your ears

    • @TapRackandBang
      @TapRackandBang 7 років тому

      TRealGz lol shut your mouth chump. I've been using the 1dx mk ii since launch day. And I've used a D5 and it blows the Nikon out of the water. And I'm not saying that because I'm a Canon fan I've used Nikon for years. But once I swapped to Canon and realized Nikon is not even in the same league there was no going back. And ya he said a couple things here and there but if you don't realize how biased he is you are the one who needs to "open up your fucking ears" 😂

    my friend you can't compare Canon 1DX Mark II with Nikon D5. I don't know what do you think about two different cameras . but I know every person going to the college after one year .they thinking they very professional master . every person who has Nikon or Canon they know about two different camera . so you can't compare an old horse with young horse
