We should have mentioned Canon's iTR, which is similar, but doesn't work with a single AF point. We always use a single AF point when shooting sports. If your style is different, you might be satisfied with it.
Also, on June 23, 2016, Nikon released a D5 firmware update that allows 30 minute recording in 4K mode: downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com...

Very good video, I really like the effort you guys put into them. But I missed one thing and that is the fact that the 1DX II has 21 F8 focus points making it an excellent wild life cam by putting a 2X extender on the 500MM F4 of 600mm F4. And still be able to track.

  • @Perk.Eo.1

or you know those pro wildlife photographers use the top of the line bodies because they are capable of withstanding a direct nuclear strike and have enough battery power to shoot a week without charging and still have enough juice to jump start a truck

    • @jeffrydemeyer5433
      @jeffrydemeyer5433 8 років тому +3

Yes I think it is one of canons first non top of the line bodies that has seen so much care in getting a sturdy body.
Probably the reason why Nikon introduced the d500 and didn't just update the d7xxxx again
But still if I were to be sent in the wilderness and had to pick a camera, I wouldn't even think about picking anything but a 1Dx or Dx, the lines have the reputation and $5000 is getting you a heck of a lot more quality control than some thing you can get for less than $1500

Great Review as always, but one slight point I'd like to make that is often overlooked in deciding which camera you need that suits you and that is hand size & grip. If a camera fits well into your hand & you can hold it and reach buttons comfortably then its going to be simpler to get shots that you want. For me, and it is only a personal thing, I have found the 5D 3 with battery grip attached the best simply because I can hold it at any angle. A friend who is a Nikon user hates the way the Canon is laid out. I know with time you can use to anything but handling a new buy prior to purchase is always a sensible idea before parting with your hard earned cash.

Great video Tony and Chelsea, it's amazing that DSLRs hasn't changed in 15 years. I can pull out my Canon 10D from 2003 and it look and feel just about the same. Canon and Nikon need to get some younger engineers working on their equipment, because DSLR are like 10 years behind on technology. I'm always apprehensive watching these Canon vs Nikon videos, but you guys did a great job. Great video as always guys.

Hi guys!! Thanks so much for this video! I've been considering replacing my aging D2X with something newer and was almost ready to pop for the D5 when I saw your video. Since I'm mostly a bird photographer it makes much more sense to me to stay with the APS-C sensor size. I am looking forward to being able to shoot at higher ISO since the D2X gets pretty noisy above 640 or so. How about yu guys having a meet up here in good ol' CT?

Excellent, I was about to get the Canon 5D S R, to go with my 1D mk 4, but I was thinking maybe get rid go the 1D mk 4, and get the new 1D X mk 2. But after seeing this video, think I'll keep my 1D mk 4, for action (10 frames is mostly ok), and get the 5D S R, with its 50 mega for other stuff (even though it's only 5 frames)!, great great video as always, you two really make the best photo videos, thanks Greg (from the UK)

Very clear and helpful information. Thanks for saying how loud the DX1 is. I have many photos of birds looking right in my direction thanks to the loudness of Canon. Not really happy about that. Would rather remain stealth. Interesting about the pixel quality and rather disheartening, as I often have to crop. Looks like I'll be renting the 5Dsr in the future.

Not that I am about to buy any of these two cameras, but it is good to see an objective and insightful comparison of these two flagship products as well as a few very sensible recommendations to buy more appropriate gear for what one may be shooting. I loved the commentary on why pro wildlife photographers shoot the big guys. I guess habits die off very slowly.

Great review, the first thing that I always get from you (and Chelsea) is honesty, I never got the impression that you are getting paid by manufacturer “XYZ”, unlike some other reviewers on you tube. Now having said that, since i’m not a professional and just for family and some street photography I got the Sony A7-II with the 55mm f/1.8 and I couldn’t be happier, printed as large as 20 X 30 and they look great on the wall. Keep up the great work.

Nice bird in flight photos! I've used a Canon EF800mm f/5.6 handheld shooting BIFs for half a day before and I couldn't get out of bed the next day. One of the coolest things I like about the new 1DX mark II compared to the original is that the lcd does not black out during live view high speed continuous shots.

Thanks for these practical reviews of these flagship cameras. Being in the Canon ecosystem, I suppose we were all wondering if the Canon sensor ADC would finally get upgraded to the Sony/Nikon equivalent, so that us common folk will eventually see these improvements funnelled down to less ethereal camera bodies, like the upcoming 5D mark "whatever". Your video reviews parse out the realistic parameters from all the spec puffery.
    Keep them coming.

Great vid, your wildlife conclusion took me by surprise. I crop ALOT so perhaps the low MP of the 1DX isn't up to my needs. But video is important to me too.. perhaps I need two different cameras instead of hoping the 1DX will answer all my needs in one body.

Not really, they talked about the Nikon 3d focus mode or whatever it's called, Canon has the exact same thing... Also if you need "light up buttons" you probably shouldn't have a $7,000ish DSLR, i usually love their videos but this felt rushed, i couldn't make it past 12 minutes, maybe the video improved after that... and the intro was cheesy haha. That was a great review! The upfront video wth the kickball was fun! Great analysis of nature photography. Any chance you'll do a revue of the EOS-1 and other film cameras? To me film still beats digital in everything except convenience -- which is a big deal. It seems to me that film cameras require the photographer to better understand what is going on to get a good shot. What do you all think?

Great video comparison. Being a wildlife shooter, I particularly liked that portion of the video. If the D810 were included, where would that fall in your recommended wildlife camera list?

First time here because I want to buy a camera for personal projects. Torn between a great dslr with 4k or a cinema camera, film being my first love. I think Im gonna go with the URSA 4.6.
Chelsea is gorgeous! (Im sure also a wonderful photographer) and very complete review. thanks!

Very nice comparative review! If money is not an issue and I can purchase either camera body to cover all kinds of photography interests (portraits, nature, macro, gardens, architecture, and video), which Canon camera body do you and your subscribers suggest: a 5D Mark IV or a 1DX Mark II? Many Thanks!

The loud noise made by these DSLRs is a big no-no for shooting in door dance performance. However, in order to get accurate focus in doors in low light situation, fast burst rate, huge buffer, and good ISO performance, these cameras are required. I really hope these companies figure out how to implement the quiet mode properly.

I have the 1dx2 and I just shoot live view when it's needed in a quiet environment, it's nice n quiet :) also about as quick to focus and low light sensitive as the viewfinder, it's great

3:36 Full Auto Assault CANON?!?! It sounds almost like a full autotomatic rifle. Now on a serious note here... This video is EXTREMELY helpful on helping me make a choice on which camera I want to get for my upgrade from my Canon Rebel T3i. Overall your videos are top quality and lots of great information. Thank you for the great tips you share on your videos.

Love my Canon 5Ds-R, But birds I use my 5D mk lll, recovery time is quicker due to half the Mega Pixels, and faster shutter. but you are right, if you want sharpness the 5Ds-R is the best. Mostly use it for land / cityscapes. Very interesting how the big boys are so fast and noisy. but for media and sports you can't beat them.
