"Hear the Drummer (Get Wicked)" is a song by English DJ Chad Jackson, released in 1990. It consisted of samples, and peaked at #3 on the UK Singles Chart.
The song was co-produced by Steve Mac.
I shot this. Great days shoot Chad Jackson lovely lovely bloke. We couldn't figure out what to do for the background so we stapled clear gel on 8x4 frame and just wellied a tin of paint on it and after initial shot doing that laid it flat, dried it out with 2k tungsten lamps. It was henceforth known as 'the flea'. I think, the big guy in the biker kit turned up at the studio to deliver something and just agreed to be in it. The feet stuff was up on the roof on a little hut with a angled roof and it worked fantastically well for the camera and we made the most of it. Everyone, crew, dancers, everyone was so up for it as you can tell. Great great day, and my only No1 hit video, cheap as chips, but hey glad it was this one. 16mm B&W. Arri SR camera.
are you still doing anything similar now and if not, why not. this was great
@@timdavis7661 The simple answer is I've retired. There are some health issues. I shot n directed this ua-cam.com/video/1GSGU8QDj_Y/v-deo.html a couple of years ago for less than peanuts and frankly the business can stink to high heaven. I'd say a rough estimate of 90 ish percent of what I shot over 40 years was editorially rubbish.
the best of life is spontaneous
Thank you however I've moved on...nearly 70. 🤓 @@timdavis7661
Thats dope, love hearing stories of how these shoots come together. I was studying under chad and hes a genuine guy, gave tons of insight and so passionate about helping spread the love of music through eras even of completely diff genres.
If you're reading this, you have a damn good taste in music
thanks
Back at'cha
But what if I'm (still) listening to this far in the future, but also am old/young and have some personal story to share with the clouds, or even pointing out that I heard it in a video game, movie, TV show, or other song?
Exactly Brother. 😍😊
Wiem
I am still listening to Chad Jacksons dance masterpiece in 2024
Old skool forever
Yep, I’m here after watching the Carlsberg advert. Soon as I heard it, it was an immediate blast from. Tune❤❤❤❤❤
Same!
Same here
The Carlsberg advert? Any links?
In that advert the beat is harder hitting.
@@gnyx1566 Type in Carlsberg advert 2024 in the search engine, you'll find it.
They should return this kind of music back from the past!
Just watched the Carlsberg advert then searched for this. Now remember the dance in the nightclubs. Also dancing with a pint of Carlsberg Special Brew too. Absolutely banging time! ❤
Special Brew - savage that was 😅
Things get crazy in my house, when these old school bangers are randomly remembered 🇬🇧
Do they aye
What a blast from the past, still as fresh as the day it came out.
I just remember in the night club 30 odd years ago and we’d jump once to the side then twice to the side in rhythm to beat. Happy memories. Class tune. So glad Carlsberg has brought it to the forefront again.
Wearing my British Knights and bopping to this. Hell Yeah. Pure Nostalgic.
Who's listening in 2020!! Banging old skool tune 😎👍
Hell Yeah! Chad was my production tutor like 15 years ago LEGEND!
Yeah he taught me production 15 years ago as well! You went to ACM right? I did the HND in something like ‘05
@@louiseallfrey9892 Yeah ACM Gang! I'm trying to think when I was there, I think it was '03 HND. I wonder if he's still there
I'm on yo ass! Loved my youth♥✌🏿
Lima Charlie - Why do you ask the same old question that so many people ask over and over on UA-cam? What is the point in it?
Takes me straight back to 1990!!! Cool times!😎
hell ya@, indeed. the '90's were the best years of my young Horse life!!
1990,benitzes in corfu, world cup on and 15 years old.take me back
Oh my! Was 16, loved this! Still do! X
I heard a piece of this song the saxophone part on djslinky yesterday and could not for the life of me remember the lyrics just that a ballerina was on it and so wanted to hear it, then suddenly remembered drummer get wicked this morning!! So satisfied to hear this classic after all these years!!! ❤💕🎷🥁
British Knights trainers, SPX shellsuit, and doing the running man. Oh, the better days.
I had Troop boots 🙈
I’d forgotten about this song. Absolute classic. Reminds me of my older sister blasting it out her tape player in the bedroom.
manchester's finest dj. respect to the 45 king for letting chad have this . rest in peace the 45 king, you were a king.
i used to drive my parents mental with this tune...cheers for the upload.
The broken beats from the UK still give me the bumps all over, never fails to get me back to the quality past! Thanks for sharing
Later went on to be called big beat !
I'm a break beat club DJ in Orlando Florida. One of my favorite scratches is ( here the drummer get wicked) My other favorite is ( get up on this)
🇬🇧
Imagine Fat Boy Slim doing a beat to this....? 😎
Please suggest more forgotten bangers like this!
I do drum covers and am always on the lookout for amazing grooves to learn
Unpopular opinion:
This wipes the floor with 'Summers Magic' every time.
Chan(SKZ) reminded me of this song 😌💕
Was a teen when I first heard this back in the 90’s. Still cool today.
1990
WTF? It wasn’t cool then and it’s not cool now. This is naff. In the early 90s we were all listening to the Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, the La’s and the like. If hip hop was your thing, then there was Public Enemy, NWA, etc… This was about as “cool” as that Eat My Goal rap that featured a feller who now goes about calling himself a Gentleman Rhymer!
And I`m still amazed. Didn`t know I still got those moves.
Not heard this in ages but it popped in my head yesterday. My brain is leaking music FROM OUTTA NOWHERE! :)
Whatta tune. This sounds so good in 2016!
Real talk man
Chad Jackson took the "45 King's - 900 number" and made something really special from it ...I have and love Both , but Chad Jackson's version is by far the BEST _ I still listen to both in 2021 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OLD SKOOL WINS AGAIN !!!!!!!!!
Indeed, layered up over this ua-cam.com/video/8XcEmy_w4Q8/v-deo.html&lc=UgyMLVkLP9VcTePIUit4AaABAg.9Wr0W00ZXpS9flu4hxhE5H
The sax is sampled from Marva Whitney's "Unwind Yourself", a funk and soul classic from the late 60's. Chad Jackson hails from my home town of St.Helens. I'd forgotten about this till I chanced upon Marva Whitney on You Tube and searched for this. I used to play this when I was a DJ myself in the 80's.
Wow! Marva Whitney's "Unwind Yourself" ua-cam.com/video/ym7IOodKeWI/v-deo.html

Happy 30th for this Release, (1990) Classic, still sounds hot today!
A pivotal allusion in Public Enemy's "Welcome to the Terrordome"--- golden record!
I’ve to go up into the loft/attic now to find my roller skate🇬🇧👊🏼
Absolute banger !! 90's yo
Better than the generic CRAP they churn out today! ;-)
@@unlokia Summer of '89. Remembering the big sound system on All Saints Road busting up the crowd when this came on - and every last person jumped up and all but displaced the tarmac. What a riotous time.
Gives me chills 30 years later.
I have loved this song since day one, always imported in playlist to my phone
Bought this in 1990, swear to god, the CD is only 5cm across. never saw that before or since!

Hi I agree, but my Dancing days were in Newquay in a club called Steamers!! Brilliant days when u could have Fun & nobody bothered you...
Don’t get me wrong, I do like this track. But I always found it comical… “Let’s groove on, ‘cause it’s time to move on. Hear the drummer get wicked”… proceeds to play the saxophone . Hahaha!

Oh man.... What a beat 🎶 🎵
Tune
BRILLIANT
Very oldschool love it
Thank god for the "Amen Beat"
I like to think that back in the old days, the world actually was sepia-toned, and that we've only invented colour very recently.
What a great track! And so influential! Sampled on so many tracks! Outstanding.
What do you mean? This track is virtually made up all samples.
@@Raider577 no it didn't
@sallyjoan Yes it is.
I can hear a James Brown track he did with Full Force and a track called For the love of Money by the Four Tops or O Jay's. To name a few.
