- Tapioca balls are translucent spheres; a product of tapioca, a starch extracted from the cassava root. They are also known as boba (a transliteration of the word "bubble"), or "pearls" when in bubble tea
1/3 cup water
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup tapioca starch ( This recipe will only work with Tapioca starch)
1/4 tsp black food dye (optional)
Enjoy!

Notes:
1. Please sprinkle sugar on the readied/cooked pearls after draining it so they don’t stick together.
2. Adding the black food dye is optional. If you don't want any food dye on your food then you can skip that part. Using brown sugar can make the pearls brown in color anyway.
3. Once the cooked pearls are cooled down, they become even more darker (blacker).
4. Although, it takes time when rolling each pearl but it's worth it. They are not perfectly round but it is much better to have these pearls than nothing at all. Because it is not available in my location, available maybe but can't find any :) So it is very helpful to me since my children loves black pearls on their milk tea.

the first time I made it with starch it didn’t work but when I saw that I have tapioca starch it did work! but that could just be me!
Hello everybody ! I just tried this recipe and I RECOMMEND IT. I made it in a very (very) small amount (not enough for a drink). I wanted to see if it works. I followed the recipe exactly (except for the dye, I don't have one). I had no problem until the kneading. The dough was dry and did not want to form a ball. So I added a little bit of water (something like 2 or 3 drops) and I was able to form the ball (the water must have evaporated during cooking). I then formed balls (by dipping very slightly in water if it did not want to form). I cooked it, then add sugar as advised. It was perfect. Except for the color, the balls remained very clear.
PS: I used 1 tbsp of tapioca starch, 1 tsp of water and 1/2 tsp + 1/4 tsp of brown sugar
PS 2: if you have red, yellow and blue food coloring, you can use (the same amount of each) to make black. I thought about it too late
(I use google translation)
How do you store left over boba?

I tried this and it tasted really good! Really recommend this recipe
I had great success with this recipe today, after trying another one that was a flop. I did make my boba too big, so they didn't cook all the way through. I'd recommend taking one out to test how done they are before you turn off the stove to let them sit. I am storing my cooked boba in brown rice syrup (it's not too sweet) so they can hang around in the fridge for a week or so. For the coloring, I used 4 capsules of activated charcoal, and it worked great! Black as night and no flavor was added from it.
I tried making tapioca pearls from another channel but it failed. I found this recipe and made it. It's fool proof. 😄 Thanks.
You're welcome. Thank you 😘😘😘

Same! Decided to try this one n I succeeded on my first try!
I've failed 5 times so I will trust you and follow this recipe
Update: I made it today and it actually worked!!! If your dough is too dry/flaky then add COLD water (I had to add a little) if it's too wet then put more tapioca starch

It freaking wooorrrrrked. I think I needed just a bit more water in my recipe. I had the hardest time kneading the dough. Also, I just used raw regular granulated sugar and didn't add the black dye. I don't have any. But it came out so pretty. I just made mine too big but I'll try again for sure. This did take a long time but I had so much fun I didn't notice too much at all. Probably will need to make after working hours.
I have never ever tried boba since i live in a small country in europe, so i bought tapioca starch and made them myself! They turned out pretty tasty
I made this today. I was so scared it wouldn't work because it was initially lumpy and didn't seem like it had enough liquid, but it actually turned out great! Thanks!

So I decided it would be really fun to do this and it worked out great however I just have a few tips :)
I made some rainbow boba using this recipe it worked great but I made the bobas a little to big so they didn't cook evenly
another tip I have is that you want to half the recipe depending on how much boba you want...I made this recipe knowing I would have left overs as I was only making a cup for myself however and I'm not sure if you would have the same results if you refrigerated but my boba molded within a few days and I had to throw it out.
Any way just a few tips.. Hope you enjoyed :)
freeze leftover ones and itll last for a long time :)
Thank you so much!
Are they like the original boba or do they taste different

I made this with corn flour (corn starch) and it worked! The texture wasn’t as good but for me it was ok since I prefer not having too many tapioca balls. If you really want to make this but can’t buy tapioca flour, then maybe try what I did

It is also very common to use sticky rice starch, but it will become much softer and the color will be different.

@@sarahkhan07859 ikr? Sadly, it's my mom that thinks that so I rarely get to have it rip
Kenz Huynh bro that sucks! I feel bad 😔
Bro what-
I tried this recipe out. Here is my honest review-
It was the only boba recipe on youtube I could find that did not burn when I poured the tapioca starch in. It immediately became a thick gooey substance, which was later made into the perfect dough.
I assume all boba dough gets crusty while rolling the balls, but I was pleasantly surprised that this did not affect the way the boba cooked.
I could easily cut the dough, and it was even easier to roll into balls.
I decided to make two batches, one with black color, and one without, because I wanted to save the black coloring to make some more later. The one without coloring just looked liked big pieces of brown sugar, which was expected, because boba is naturally translucent without coloring.
After an easy cooking process, I strained the boba from the water. The water looked and smelled like well- crap.
The boba looked really dry, not at all like what this person strained from the water. It didn't look sticky, it just looked like brown pasta.
When the time came to finally taste it, It looked like something you would get from a cafe. But oh hell. It didn't taste very good. It tasted the way the pasta water smelled. But kind of almost... worse.
It was however a boba texture. It was perfectly chewy and soft. I wouldn't say it was a smooth ball, it was a little bumpy. But I still loved how chewy it was. It was a treat for a dweeb with braces.
In the end, I liked the process of making it more than tasting it. I will try the recipe again sometime to see what I might have done wrong. The video itself was very informal, so I could easily follow along. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
Ah, I see the problem here. Similar to how plain pasta tastes...well like plain pasta, you would normally add a sauce to it for it to taste good. You have to do the same thing here. You need to make simple syrup to give it that sweet, delicious unmistakable boba taste! Unfortunately this person didn't show how to make it in the video but it's rather simple and not very time consuming.
_Recipe:_
~ Add a cup of brown sugar and a cup of water into a pan, put on medium heat and boil it for about 5-10 minutes until it's at your desired thickness.
~Afterwards, wait for the mixture to cool down enough that it's still rather warm and not like molten lava, transfer into a heatproof bowl or cup large enough.
~Add your freshly cooked boba into the syrup, mix and let it absorb that sticky goodness for at least an hour.
~ Enjoy your boba!
_Notes:_
You can even use some of the left over starchy water as it makes the syrup more thicker but it's optional.
The longer you let your boba sit in the syrup, the better they taste. You can keep the boba refrigerated for about 4 days, so you could actually make it overnight and then enjoy the next day.
If your boba has gone a little firm or tough in the fridge, you can microwave it up in 30 second intervals. Keep an eye on it and make sure the syrup doesn't bubble up. Let it cool down before tasting one to see if it's chewy again.
Hope this helps you out!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I can't wait to make my own tapioca pearls at home.
To think all this while I thought this maybe something from the ocean or an exotic fruit of some sort!!!

I made Boba from this recipe and it worked really well although the second the tapioca flower hit the pan with brown sugar and water it clumped. I had to reheat the dough in the microwave for a few seconds to bring it back to life but overall it came out really well and looked fine and was smooth after cooking. I made 2 batches and now have bags in my freezer ready to cook whenever
Really Good but It took me more than 15 minutes while boiling them . I think it depends on the climate of where you live .

Wow, this actually worked really well. The only change I made was adding more water while rolling them out to make them more malleable; other than that, they were great. Also, you want to make sure that you cool them all the way through, so you may want to boil them longer depending on the size (i.e. 25 or 30 minutes). Thank you for the recipe. 😊💜💜
