The correct way is to fit the bar almost the full width of the door, then cut the frame to accommodate, with a bull nose on the opening end of the bar to allow the door to close.
I've just stripped and painted one with holes on the outside - there wasn't even any filler in the holes. I was wondering if the holes should've been on the other side too. That looks so much smarter.
Iv just completed a conservatory rebuild and paint I used car body filler as it comes in 3.5 litre pack for about 28 quid you can pick one up at euro parts of your interested as you will use a lot it's grey but takes paint well and easy sand easy mix as hardener is pink regards sl
It's a case of finding the screws and seeing if you can unscrew them. Usually come off easy if they need replacing. You may have to cut round the sealant to help remove it. Sharp scrapper and a hammer can help also. Thanks
Did you say you used foam to fill the hole between the sill and the floor please? I just fitted a new sill, and foamed the gap left, but put a layer of caulk over the top to protect the foam. I have a similar threshold to fit on top today, then Sikaflex to seal the edges. I am only hoping it all works.
do you have a video - on how do fix a weather bar to a PVC door? or is it just the same? I am new to this DIY stuff -sorry if obvious question. my backdoor in the garage is letting water in at the bottom of the door. thanks, Lizzy

Do you have to remove the door? I want to attach the to a couple of gates. Was thinking of using glue. Would be too much effort for someone to do solo.

I'm hoping you can advice me on pricing jobs I know it's a bit of a liberty but I've been out the game that long I am struggling on pricing. At the moment I'm working part time as well as doing the painting and decorating and so I'm charging double my hourly rate at the part time job but would appreciate your guidance as one old school p&d to another. @@BillsAllotmentDiary Hi Bill... pricing is the most difficult thing to do... and no easy answer.. you could have two painters and give them a priced job. one could turn up early and leave late finishing the job twice as fast as the other who turns up late disorganised and leaves early. You need to know how fast you can paint certain things done correctly. Then when you quantify a job you have a good idea how long it will take... better putting a price in because hour rate puts people off.... one price unless unforeseen circumstances that are not your fault on the price... practise makes perfect..

At the moment i'm saying if a job takes me a full day, in my part time job id get this amount so I base it on that then double it. but if the going price for say papering a wall is more then I'm under quoting but then I may be over quoting. I've just done a porch and bay window it had rot which i've sorted with two part filler sanded prepped and 3 coats of stain. The customer paid for all the stuff so i charged £60 but I don't mind on this job as its for a neighbor who's short on cash and its giving me the experience so win win however going forwards that wont pay the bills. Luckily the mortgage is paid lol
@@BillsAllotmentDiary That's okay as a favour again for customers give them a price at the start including materials and get trade discount. Only leave colours with your customer and charge only for the amount of paint used for anything else i.e. whites also painters rates are different from painter to painter and in different areas. It's about being priced reasonable my customer gets the paint discount a lot of the time. Keeping the jobs coming in is about word of mouth and that comes down to your skill level.. how good you can make a room look.

Agreed I was under the impression you have to let the bar into the frame a bit to stop rain getting in round the ends of the bar

Yes it's a nice house... Dulux and Sandtex are both really good paint... both last just as well... but I find Dulux has better opacity.

Why would you fit one to your gate?
