This channel deserves way more subs. Also that Aphaenogaster species is large and beautiful. Wish I could get my hands on a Queen during a nuptial flight.

The Ant Network np man. Would you recommend any aspirators for catching larger queens/brood? I love camponotus colonies and I want to try a different way of catching queens this summer

Very awesome video! I am just wondering how one would transfer this kind of curriculum to the continental U.S. Do you have plans on producing videos like this in the future pertaining to ants found throughout the lower 48?

Thank you, Chris! We had a blast filming these ants, and thanks to the support of our institutional partners and viewers, we've been able to significantly upgrade our macro capabilities. This was our first opportunity to try those out!

Another Great video. The largest colony I have so far is the Australian Aphaenogaster longiceps, they always look so funny running around with their down turned gasters.

4:00 Interestingly, genetic analysis has found that these ants, while classified as Aphaenogaster, are actually a separate undescribed genus unique to Madagascar.

That’s correct! Dr. Fisher will share with us the final determination once the genus has been described.
