Chinese diesel heater, 5kw versus 8kw. do they even make an 8kw?

    I've had my heater installed for several months in my 40' container home, and the 5 programmed heat settings give me all the variety I need for this dwelling.
    I can't remember if it was 'supposed' to be an 8kw or a 5kw model, but it gave me the options I wanted (external tank and pump) that I wanted at a great price. The only negative was that the instructions were the worst I've ever had for a Chinese-made piece of equipment of any sort. From memory it was a single sheet of paper folded in 4 to give 8 faces. I had to nut most of it out for myself by trial and error.
    I only recently discovered that between the 5 and the 1 setting it will keep the room at an apparently preset 16ºC, starting itself on '5' and slowly ramping down to '1' when the room temp gets over 16.
    The instructions were inscrutable.
    I've heard about "factory settings" being available via some controllers, but I haven't even been able to change the thermostat, much less follow any of the more complex instructions that appear on some YT vids.
    Something like hold one button at the same time as another button for so many seconds while rubbing your right knee with your left elbow, then... God knows.
    I gave up, preferring not to try and "fix" it as long as it's working.

    Perhaps John Mk4 will do some lab measurements to determine what the higher settings you changed your ECU to is actually generating interns of KW/BTU, fan rpm, fuel flow, etc. Clearly, increasing the settings has empirically increased the heat produced; it is higher than the 5KW while don't know how close to 8KW. Manufacturers like to have a wide safety margin and the increased settings will reduce that margin, increase the wear of the components, and chance overheating/burning the device. Good to know its possible to get more if only just a wee bit more while not to the extreme maximums.

    you should try the special settings on a 2 kw diesel heater I increased the airflow and speed of the pump in Hz and all it brought me was trouble the burner over fueled and created black and white smoke and extinguished its self twice, it also produced 33 parts per million of carbon monoxide, if you brethe 33 parts per million of carbon monoxide for about 15 hours there is a high chance youll go to sleep and never wake up, I turned the heater off disconnected the power and the settings returned to the factory settings minimum 1.0 hz on the pump and maximum 3.1 hz now there is no carbon monoxide produced the readings are back to zero. the heater is mounted in an outside home made cabinet extracting air from my kitchen and pumping hot air into mmy living room, I can maitain a constant 20 degrees C all day with only a 2 kw heater set at 1.7 Hz, it only becomes necessary to use a 5 kw when your heating outside air and pumping that air into your home, we have one on a caravan doing exactly that it is heating outside air. for the future I will not be messing with the special settings menu again on my 2 kw heater I believe that they are set in the factory to not produce carbon monoxide as a saftey feature of the unit, there has to be a reason why they are set the way they are so they dont kill poeple.

    Hey James hope things are well.
    There are a couple of things that can help calculate efficiency however convenience is a major player in deciding to purchase one of these machines, not efficiency. You do not need any permits or government regulated storage containers for fuel (as of yet) to buy or install. They take up very very little space for the heat produced and there are many configurations that can be used however Insurance companies might object to the use of these in their insured spaces.
    When they quote kilowatts (kw) it should be per hour. 8 kW = 27300 BTU/hr. Diesel produces about 36,500 BTU per liter when burned. My 8kw heater burns exactly .4 liters per hour on high therefor 14,600 BTU per hour so their numbers don't make sense. The way to check if there is a difference between 5 or 8 kw heater is fuel consumption.
    Temperature and CFMs from heater minus temperature and CFMs of exhaust will tell you how efficient it is. I would guess this machine is about 65% efficient but I have not done tests or math

    The 5 KW heaters have just been relabled as an 8 KW heater for quite a while now. But now there are an actual larger heaters (there's a few videos about them) with a longer burn chamber selling for 8 KW heaters. I assume they put out more heat because of the larger burn chamber and maybe the pump puts out more fuel by speeding up a little, I don't really know? I'm sure some one will be testing the newer one to show how much they produce.

    Ok, I stuggled to get through that due to redundancy. I thing we all understand the relationship between fuel consumption and air flow. What I didn't learn is how to adjust the parameters on my system? What is the control interface? are there jumpers or pots on the board?

    Lots of great information, thanks. -Can you elaborate on the motherboard a little, regarding the MB only allowing either 5kW or 8kW settings? I'd assumed you can configure the pump to go from 0.8Hz to 8Hz, to give you full range, but are you saying you if you raise the max setting to 8Hz, the minimum setting will increase also?- Your "Grinding noise" video answered my question. I've learned almost everything there is to know about these things given the scarcity of information out there, but there were some odd specifics I still had questions about, and you've answered some of those. Thank you!

    This is old news. Years ago people started to do test on a 5K and 8K they found they both are the same, yet people still believe they have a 8K Chinese Diesel Heater . By changing the Hz and rpm is not going to make a 5K to a 8K Chinese Diesel heater.. Like I said others have tested these in every way they can and none said there is a 8K Chinese Diesel Heater.
    I have been using Diesel Heaters over 6 years now

      @DRNEGOLICIS the 5K and 8K Chinese Diesel Heater are the same thing, there is no 8K Chinese Diesel Heater.

      I have both the 8kw burn chamber is about 2" larger but it will heat my garage in almost half the time, so there definitely is a difference between 5 and 8kw heaters.

    What brand of heater are you running or do they all use the same controller that allows you to change the parameters? Also it would be great if you could do a video of the amount of fuel per hour at a real 8Kw.

    Thank you sir. Great video i just bought a 5kw only because the price was good. Now it seems if i want to upgrade can just get a new motherboard.

      Hello Grease Monkey, thank you for watching the video and for placing comment. Yes that would be correct if you want to upgrade a 5 KW heater to an 8 KW heater you will need to change out the motherboard but also you must have a controller compatible to the motherboard. I would suggest if you were to make an upgrade you purchase a new motherboard, controller and a remote. Keep in mind that even if you purchase an 8 kilowatt electronic set you will only be running at 5.6 Hz. Most likely to get to it 8hz you would need to purchase an aftermarket pump 28 ml however that has yet to be proven. though. However by just swapping out the electronics you will in fact increase your BTUs. You don't necessarily have to buy the aftermarket pump to improve on the BTUs.

    If you bench test the 8 it will be 5kw..or there's a 2kw..The pumps delivery is 0.2 ml per pump..there all identical..there all the German Eberspatcher design 2kw or 5kw..it's a sales pitch..there's no 8kw..

    I don't disagree with anything you said, but you didn't discuss efficiency. Cranking up a 5kW heater to 8 Kw may well degrade its efficiency . I believe that's why some 8 kW heaters have larger heat exchangers than 5kW heaters - to maintain efficiency.

      they didnt its not possible to get 8kw out of a 5kw heater, there are no 8kw heaters, dont be fooled see above.

    You know wood working right well I've been installing and repairing diesel air heaters for over 20 years. Please just measure the btu output if you want to know the truth. Once again the setting of hz is how many times the pump pumps the fuel. Look at a 2kw diesel heater compared to a 5kw diesel heater , do you see the size difference

      Hi James, thank you for watching the videos as well as your comments. Please understand I do respect your experience in working with these heaters for 20 years. I'm no expert on this subject and I'm always willing to learn something new. So maybe you can educate me a little bit more. You stated hz pertains to the pump pumping. So each time the pump pumps that's one hz and that would be per second is this correct? So if I have my heater set at one Hertz the pump is pumping one hz per second correct, if I have my heater set at five hz that would be five pumps per second is this correct.

      I don't know if it puts out 8Kw, but increasing the pump frequency will definitely put out more heat. Each stroke of the pump, injects a measured volume of fuel into the burner. More fuel, means more heat. A smaller body will emit heat less efficiently. That is why the fan speed has to be increased to prevent the body from overheating.

    I honestly don't think there is a 8kw heater. Its only my opinion that the factory tweaks the 2 and the 5

    What it telling you is that your old heater is dirty and the new heater is clean and there for spins easier. Your so smart just adjust your controls alike you allegedly did to first heater changing it from a 5 kw to an 8 kw by adjusting the pump speed an fan speed. So what are you even talking about ? Your looping around and around and your answering your own question and then denying it. Your Meds need to be adjusted.
