Lupe Pintor. One of the Greatest Mexican fighters there was. And this also shows what a great man he was and a Brave man too.Pure class. (R.I.P) Johnny Owen. You were one Strong Lad.
RIP Johnny Owen, forever beautiful young boy..Lupe Pintor told you are his guardian angel, he watches you in his dreams as a grown man, not anymore a 24 y.o. guy, but like a 50 or 60 y.o. man taking care of him and his family, talking to him, maybe Death is just the beginning of another journey
Power of love and forgiveness. This is a lesson of forgiveness. Lupe Pintor was not ever the same after that fight. RIP Johnny Owen. A great warrior! And I respect and admire to Lupe Pintor. A great mexican fighter with a great heart and human kind.
Such a beautiful interview ❤️ but I hate it at the same time because I cannot stop tearing up everytime I see it. THANK-YOU JOHNNY FOR SHOWING US WHAT A REAL CHAMP 🏆 LOOKS LIKE. NEVER FORGOTTEN AND ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS 💓❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍🥰.
What an amazing act of strength and understanding by Johnny Owen's family to extend their hand to Lupe Pintor. Johnny was a credit to his family and they are a credit to him.
Heartbreaking story. What a humble down to earth warrior. It’s a shame we don’t have many young up and coming sports stars like Johnny Owen. It’s all about the fame and greed nowadays.
I watched that fight, had the newspapers for the day before and the day after. I still remember how it happened, will never forget Johnny's face. Great documentary, my most sincere condolences and admiration for Johnny's family, such a tragedy in a sport we all love. He'll always be remembered.
I first saw Johnny's death occur in a Faces of Death film, where it was presented in a despicable and disrespectful manner. But to see the triumphs that both his family and Lupe Pintor had to overcome from that tragedy is truly moving. Much love and respect to Johnny, his family, and Lupe Pintor. This legacy is one of greatness.
Exactly, I hated those tasteless films when I worked in a video store, idk why but something about johnny Owen makes me tear up everytime me I see his story, idk why, maybe it was his bravery and determination he showed from his frail frame. Like the sad saying goes, the good die young. A REAL CHAMP. FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS JOHNNY❤️😢👍.
🙏🏼😭😭 cried watching this xx love Johnny so much and it's a massive shame he is gone 😭❤️ I would do anything to help his family xx 😭❤️ he is my most favourite and inspirational man in the universe 😭❤️ xx RIP my hero
John Owen was a brave boxer, he deserves a place in boxing history. He died but always will be alive in the heart of the boxing fans. Lupe Pintor is better like human than like boxer.
Batroc Bjj I agree, but by that time there were so much better champs in Mexico, for example Carlos Zarate, Alfonso Zamora, Pipino Cuevas, and many more..
I was a young man watching that fight and was in awe of Johnny’s fighting style and boundless courage and determination. I checked the news paper every day to see if he was improving and might possibly come out of that coma. It was so Sad, and I was saddened that at the time his condition got little media attention. Eternal peace and rest Johnny Owen The Bionic Bantamweight My Hero

Yes sir ther always will be on my behalf.may he rest in peace forever and obviously god is giving his family the courage to go on despite this tragedy.
Excelente documental! LUPE PINTOR eres un gran ser humano y orgullosamente mexicano! Y que decir de la familia Owen mi admiración y todos mis respetos!
What a great documentary. A horrible tragedy for everyone, but what stands out is the message of forgiveness and love. I truly respect the father and his family for their loving hearts, their ready forgiveness of the man who accidentally took their son. And Lupe, for his part, could have given up, turned to substance abuse or worse. He could have let his grief consume him, at the expense of his own family. He didn't. He moved on as we all must do. There are very good messages here.
This was a tragedy for two families - the Owens & the Pintors. This is a very poignant documentary and as someone else said on this blog: "it is easy to forget the dangers of boxing." It took a trip by Mr. Owen to Mexico to meet Lupe Pintor & family; and, a trip by Mr. Pintor to England to see Mr. Owen, his family and Johnny Owen's hometown. I hope every person affected by this tragedy finds comfort in the understanding of kind people on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. RIP, Johnny Owen.
Very moving. Everyone is talking about the sadness and that is true but there is another way to consider it too - Johnny Owen died doing something he loved. And these meetings, difficult as they must have been, must also have given Owen's family and Pintor a sense of closure and peace too. In that sense, it has an optimistic outcome. This story will always link Mexico and Wales
It's so Sad the way it ended up, not only that Johnny died but that he did not have any children to carry on his Legacy. R.I.P Johnny u will never be forgotten, and u will be a Legend until the end of time. 🙏🇺🇲🗽🏴🙏
You are right, of course, and I regret the error. I know that Welshmen, like singer Tom Jones, have pride in their culture, heritage & traditions which are different from that of England & Scotland. Thanks for pointing out my mistake. I'll be much more careful in the future.
Fathers should not be trainers to their son ....son's will go beyond that line of life and death to prove their worth i know people will disagree with me but more fighters have died in the ring while trained by their father
I Saw the match, with my Dad, I Said why they do not stop it, my Father Said “ Owen keeps fighting he is very Brave, they can not stop it white he keeps punching”. At the end of the match I started to cry. Owen must be in heaven, He was very Brave, my best wishes to the family and to Wales.
God! The father said he was such a nice boy and was only on lend to him😭 May he Rest In Peace. I can’t stop thinking about this young man and his amazing courage, bravery and his warrior heart. May your spirit shine forever Mr. Owen. May your family as well as the Pintor family find peace. I got teary eyed just writing this 🥺
A pair of Johnny Owen`s glove are on display in the Ruparra Arms in New Tredegar - he trained in a gym known as the lesser hall in Tredegar Road in New Tredegar
It is great to hear that other fighters have paid tribute to Johnny Owen. It should also remind us of the price some pay chasing a world title. RIP Owen ,Kim ,and Bejines
1 way a looking at it . In the next life . When johny is in heaven .he will be teaching the young kids how 2 fight .rip johny u were a true warrior .total RESPECT .
Jonny was a true Welsh warrior but his strength came from the truly amazing and beautiful family he came from. Both fighters suffered a great loss that night.. but how amazing is it to see the love and genuine respect both families hold for eachother. I watch this alot and I never fail to cry lol! This is the last thing any boxer wants but boxing creates these amazing levels of love and respect ❤ god bless Jonny Owens he will never be forgotten ❤
So sad... I remember that day. Also sat at ringside for an amateur fight. Kid fought twice and died in the ring. I am suprised it doesn't happen more often.
Very interesting that Lupe, absolutely rightly, tells Johnny's brother that he doesn't feel guilty, and the poor brother doesn't I think quite understand that Lupe's not apologising, just expressing regret about a terrible sporting tragedy.
+ysgol3 Johnny's family never wanted Lupe to feel guilty or to feel like a killer. They understood that what happened was an accident and that Johnny knew the risks of the sport.
Johnny Owen a great underdog story. He lived for boxing and died because of it. Only 24 years of age. A real tragedy and a true hero.Pintor also a class guy who was a great warrior and true worthy deserving hall of famer.
Great fighter great warrior and with the a big hard. Johnny Owen will always be remembered not only in England but around the world. RIP johnny and the best happiness to her family. All you will always be in our hard her in mexico and the usa.
I must admit when I first saw Johnny Owen enter the ring I didn't think much of him. Surely Pintor would snap that little twig. That was my first impression. 8 rounds later it was clear that Johnny could take care of himself. Alas he tired out and Pintor's body work soon took its toll. When Owen went down for the last time I was sickened and immediately knew something was very wrong. He looked dead the moment the punch landed. Sad.
Thanks BBC filmmakers for this documentary on Johnny. Is painful looking at his father, it seems like blames himself for his sons death. Very sad, but for me he will always inspire me. RIP Johnny.
On the plaques in the town hall in Merthyr Tydfil, beside the monument, you can read some interesting facts about this tough guy . For example that he ran every morning through the Brecon-Beacons before his work (as u can see in 5:18), and he did that usually in army boots. RIP
Johnny would be proud of his family, and at least some good has come out of this awful tragedy. The statue to Johnny is beautiful and this documentary is a lovely memorial to him and to all his loving family. He was a true champion. Although he's gone, he'll always be with you.
What were the ref, the doctor and the corner thinking? The bout should have been stopped after the first knockdown. The guy was fading and swallowing blood fast. Kid could have done more great things.
Johnny was a good fighter. Dedicated to it. He must have known he could die. Every boxer is told this when they first start. U are risking ur life so really have to love this sport to do it. U don't PLAY boxing like u play other sports. Lupe just did what he was trained to do. Its sad but thats the life Johnny Owens chose. He will be remembered forever in whales. Im sure given a choice die crossing the street or die as a champion, he would have chose to die a champion in the ring.
He was unusually thin and did extremely well to fight for the world title and also fight with determination and courage against an excellent champion. The greatest Welsh (and European) boxer was probably tiny Jimmy Wilde, flyweight champion, ahead of Joe Calzaghe. This was a fine documentary and I am glad Lupe Pintor acted with kindness and honour, as did Johnny's parents.
Johnny Owen will live for ever in the hearts and minds of many of us.
If you didn't shed a tear. You don't have feelings . R.I.P Johnny
why not, fearless and sadness are together . Great boxing legend , no one as him
That’s for damn sure.
The sweet science is a lethal business.
Descanse en paz. Nunca había visto la pelea. Lupe pintor era mi vecino solo de chiquillo escuchaba que el había matado un boxeador. 😢 Fue un accidente

Very beautiful. 😔
Beautiful documentary. Owen a brave man who died dreaming and fighting for a championship.
Power of love and forgiveness. This is a lesson of forgiveness. Lupe Pintor was not ever the same after that fight. RIP Johnny Owen. A great warrior! And I respect and admire to Lupe Pintor. A great mexican fighter with a great heart and human kind.

John Owen was a brave boxer, he deserves a place in boxing history. He died but always will be alive in the heart of the boxing fans. Lupe Pintor is better like human than like boxer.
Pintor has been a real gret champ in the Golden era of boxing, what the hell ate you typing? he was a great boxer and a very good man
Batroc Bjj I agree, but by that time there were so much better champs in Mexico, for example Carlos Zarate, Alfonso Zamora, Pipino Cuevas, and many more..
I know how Johnny's father feels. I lost my son too. There is no greater pain.

So sad... I remember that day. Also sat at ringside for an amateur fight. Kid fought twice and died in the ring. I am suprised it doesn't happen more often.
I used to watch a lot of boxing back then and I do not remember Lupe Pintor being an arrogant fighter like the narrator said.
He was as humble and quiet as they come. Went about his business with professionalism.
this reminds me of best of the Best, that film can also teach u everything u need to know about life #forgiveness

That was probably the most sickening and heartbreaking knockdown i've ever seen. 20 odd seconds from the end of the fight.
Still 3 more rounds
Yeah, the guy said 12th and final round. They fought 15 rounds back then.
Beautifully tragic. Heart of sport, Boxing.
I must admit when I first saw Johnny Owen enter the ring I didn't think much of him. Surely Pintor would snap that little twig.
