Yeah I live the simplicity of it. I think it would even be cool to see the comparison with out smelling. Just taste and no guessing the brand. Than see it pan out on the end. Thanks Jeremy for an awesome video
Whiskey Thieves TV yeah it could be cool to see one where Jeremy doesn’t know what the options are. Just let his wife pick a few from a bigger selection so he can’t guess what’s in each glass.
Great fun video. Funny story about Wild Turkey…..asked my wife to pick up a bottle of WT while she was at our local ABC store. She comes home with a bottle of Old Crow! Asked her what happened and she said she forgot the name of the bourbon I had asked for but had remembered it was some kind of bird so she grabbed the Old Crow!
Do this more often. I love doing blind tastings with friends, and yes, while it might make you feel foolish, it's not about that. It's about being honest and separating perception vs. reality, or what YOU really like. Love your channel, keep it up!
The best thing about blind taste tests is that it shows how much we like what people tell us to like. When you lick it apart not knowing what it is you realize you like what you hate and vice versa.
Jeremy, this has to be one of my favorite videos! I really enjoyed the element of Allison being involved as well. Early Times! Never had it, but will be trying it soon. Will you do another Bourbon Brawl with your higher end options? It will be fun seeing the face Allison makes when tasting each of the selections, like when you both did the Asian Snacks Taste Test. Thanks again, for all you do to educate and entertain.
awesome! Glad you enjoyed it!! Yeah we had a blast shooting this one, so there will be more in the future. And we talked about maybe putting her on camera next time. 😉
I did a 100 proof blind bourbon brawl between WT 101, Knob Creek 100, Evan Williams BiB, and Old Grand Dad BiB. The overall winner was Evan Williams but it was close across the board.
Brand new to this world. As a diabetic, drinking liquor is the best option (after not drinking). Zero carbs!!! Thanks for those video. Very interesting!
Great bourbon brawl! There’s a reason Brown Forman products finished 1/2. They’re both awesome bourbons and the best value IMO. I lean more toward OF signature. Hopefully Sazerac doesn’t ruin the Early times reputation. Gonna stock up on it myself over the next year. Cheers!
What you've had to eat a short time before tipping some bourbon changes the way it tastes especially if it's something spicy. My favorite moderately priced bourbon had been Buffalo Trace until Bulleit came along. To me it's similar to Buffalo Trace, but it's a little thicker and has a nice butterscotch flavor note that I really like. Wild Turkey always reminds me of Christmas because my mom used to marinate her holiday fruit cake with it.
Great watch Jeremy. I did a $25 and under blind flight with the wife a while back and we both chose Old Tub as our number 1 out of the 4. Buffalo Trace came in dead last just like this one! After watching your video I'm going to try to seek out an Early Times BIB, haven't seen one here in Nor Cal but hopefully I can get my hands on one. Here's our list and rankings- 1. Old Tub 2. Evan Williams BIB 3. Jim Beam Single Barrel 4. Buffalo Trace. Cheers! 🤘
I love how the last half of this is so full of "I said F--- again!" What a great show. First time watching.. really enjoyed the banter and the humor throughout!
Blind tastings are exciting! I literally tasted 7 bourbons blindfolded! I did that so I couldn't see the color of the bourbon. Top pick was the most expensive on my counter : Blanton's Single Barrel. Tied for 2nd place was Four Roses Small Batch and Maker's Mark Private Selection!
my small collection: Extra Brooks cask strength Rebel Cask Strength (favorite Daily) Wild turkey 101 Blade and bow Evan Williams bottled and bond Early times Scotch.... Edraddour Oban Monkey Shoulder (Favorite daily) Irish... The Classic Laddie
Thanks for this one Jeremy, you opened me up to some new bottles I wouldn’t have normally looked at. I keep a bottle of old forester 100 on hand at all times now, you should try the bottled in bond old forester sometime. We need mor bourbon brawls!!
I did the same 5 while watching this video. I know Wild Turkey. By heart. Same for ET. Lol. I went Wild Turkey, Early Times, Old Forrester, Buffalo Trace then 4 Roses.
I don't know a thing about bourbons, whiskeys, I know something about cigars (but I don't smoke anymore) but this video just made my Sunday. Thank you for sharing
Jeremy, this needs to be a regular thing! Not only was it funny as hell but as a bourbon lover it was nice to see your take on some budget bourbons that I love. Love everything on your main and secondary channels!
Adding to the top comment. Dude you have a very unique approach to Whiskey & Cigar reviews. Super high quality, Peter McKinnon style videography from a relatable guy on Whiskey and Cigars is needed. MAKE MORE, FORGET THE COMPETITION!!!
Loved this! You could then taste each bottle and rank the bottles. Then compare the 2. PLEASE do this in each $25 category ($25-$50, etc) and different categories, scotch, bourbon, wheated, etc.
Over the last two days I destroyed a 101 Rye from Wild Turkey. That bottle was used to try multiple bitters and syrups to find some mixes that were keepers. What a beautiful bourbon.
Looks like I'm headed out to get a bottle of Early Times. The only one on this list I haven't tried yet. To be honest, though, I like all four of the others. Hmm... Maybe I just like Bourbon.
Unfortunately, I was trying to go by memory, and went to get a bottle of plain Early Times, not the Bottled in Bond version. I should have known by the rock-bottom price and plastic bottle... It is completely undrinkable, like gasoline. Oops!
@@caldrumr If you haven’t found the Early Times bib yet, you’ll probably have a tough time finding one. In June 2020 Brown Foreman sold the Early Times label to Sazerac , along with remaining barrels. I heard that Sazerac will likely be using some Bardstown to replace the ET. I’m still looking but, have yet to see this great budget buy on the shelves.
I found Early Times at my local liquor store for $23 and decided to try it not expecting much. I have to say it has become my favorite bourbon. I used to advocate for Buffalo Trace but when it became scarce I had to look for an alternative. I was a fan of Wild Turkey 101 before but it has also taken a back seat to Early Times.
I can't fault your placement of Buffalo Trace. I have always thought it was a bit over rated. But then again what do I know, I'm a scotch guy. Lagavulin 16 is the nectar of the gods.
Thanks for the video - enjoyed it. I'm a staunch single malt scotch person myself. I've tried just a few bourbons - Four Roses Small Batch, was "okay", but will not buy again. I feel good that you chose Early Times. I tell people that it's "cheap", but it is the one that I keep on hand in decanters to nip on when I'm out of scotch.
I finally got my hands on a bottle where I live. I didn’t get high expectations, because I’ve been let down by bourbon hype before. BT is good, decent, fine and has a good finish but it’s definitely not my favorite.
My wife will drink whiskey if mixed with Ginger ale, lol. We did a taste tasting too with Jameson,Markers Mark, Jack Daniels, Jim Beam. Jack won to my surprise, we left Crown Royal out as been a fav of mine. Great video! Thanks
Those are all perfectly fine for mixing. If you're a sipper, you should spend more money, but you don't have to go crazy. My mixing/cooking bourbon is Jim Beam white label, and my go-to sipping bourbon is Knob Creek. I don't think spending a lot more gets you enough improvement to justify the price. I'm more of a Scotch guy, so maybe I have bourbon wrong. And I grew up in Kentucky! Love your whiskey shelves! Enjoyed the video.
Great video! To bad most say 4 roses is to floral, I really don’t get that much. I think people expect flavors to appear because they are supposed to be there. I’m new to bourbon drinking at 61 years old and I think 4 R is pretty good. I have bought about thirty different bottles in the last three weeks and I have only a couple that taste no that good. Keep the videos coming!
I agree Four Roses Yellow label is my least favorite out of this line up. Their single barrel is great. People sleep on the Early Times lol. Keep 3 bottles on hand for daily drinker
I tried BT, OF, and 4R about eight years when first starting to drink whiskey. They didn't taste bad but they didn't taste good either. Col EHT SmBa BiB, 1792 BiB, and ET BiB are current favorites.
I'm going to need to try the Early Times now. I absolutely love the EW white label and the OF 100. I have started keeping a bottle of both of them in house lately.
Never had the Early Times, but of the other four you had, I would rate exactly the same. I think BT is floral. I'll pick up ET BIB. Try OF rye 100. Really good.
Exactly what I was thinking, though I also haven't tried OF rye 100. I can't stand BT. Worst Old Fashioned ice every had was with BT. My two favorites right now are Evan Williams BiB sms the OF 100, which I tried when my liquor store was out of the EW BiB. Now, I try to keep a bottle of both on my shelf.
Totally get what you say about buffalo trace, I don't like it, get green apple on the nose and palate and a floral aftertaste I just don't care for at all!
Just discovered your channel, and dig it. But more importantly, wanted to say very little has changed with Buffalo Trace. I grabbed a bottle because people I know were raving about it and couldn't find it in stores - in other words I wanted to see what the hype is about. I hear you on the floral weirdness, and find it even more watered down tasting than the low proof would indicate. So glad to see it get knocked down a peg in a blind taste test.
For me, a good cigar masks many of the subtle flavors in the glass, so the cigar and spicy chicken sandwich may have effected your pallet. Interesting to try the test again without the contaminates.
@@clintsmith4026 I feel like Jim Beam & Jack Daniels are like the Bud Light/Miller Lite of the whiskey world. So many better options out there. I get hangovers only when I drink too much, which is every once in a while. Bourbon is perfect for like 2-3 glasses to get a good buzz going and then that’s it. Any alcohol in excess I think will cause hangovers.
I haven't had this four roses but have went thru a bottle of the four roses small batch and loved it. Then bought a bottle of Buffalo trace and was very disappointed... it was very weak, little flavor, and I drink all my whiskeys neat so it wasn't from ice.
I also don’t like buffalo trace, it’s not horrible but not good either. Has a slight rubbing alcohol taste throughout. Elijah Craig small batch is way better. I gotta try Early Times, other reviewers have picked it as best tasting in blind taste tests for value bourbons too!
Four roses tastes like chemically treated rose bathwater 😂 But anyway I’m more a whisky guy myself. Four roses I bough when I wanted to try bourbon and it’s scared me right off.
I remember drinking four roses for the first time and being blown away. I loved it! Somehow, the next time I got it, it tasted totally different to me. I still like it, but I wish it could be just like the first time I had it always.
I agree with you 100% only I have not tried Early Times but the rest is spot on. I have always wondered what the big deal is with Buffalo Trace and Four Roses.
You’re thinking Early Times isn’t a bourbon right? The Bottled in Bond version I have in this video actually is a bourbon. They normal Early Times is a Kentucky Whiskey. 😉👍🏻
When I was in the service our e-club kept 10-12 Kentucky Bourbons on the shelf. I got to where I could tell them apart in a second. Won a lot of free drinks doing what your doing what you are doing but naming which bourbon was in the glass. On a physical it was discovered I had a tumor and was given 2 rounds of chemo after the tumor was removed. The chemo killed the sensitivity of my taste buds and could not tell them apart accurately again.
That was a fun Brawl! I watched with great interest as I have had all of the five bottles. My palate is remarkably similar to yours ... the Buffalo Trace is by far my least favorite. The note you don't like is the wheated note that Buffalo Trace does. Conversely, Early Times is straight delicious! I would have had Elijah Craig Small Batch as an entrant in this competition.
Buffalo trace for me, tastes just like red apples! It’s one of my favorites, but I will have to try it blind with a few others and see if it still is my favorite!
Buffalo trace. Wild turkey. And that old forester I am drinking now actually is awesome stuff. Buffalo still my fav of them all but can't go wrong either pick
Your Video proves what I have seen on most "Taste Tests" Whiskey, Bourbons taste different when compared to others and will taste different on different days and after whatever you had as a meal. I'm no expert but I have had the same drink on different times and it tasted different to Me, Sometimes I like it more and sometimes less. I also find it's very different neat or "On the rocks"
Enjoy your personality, you seem genuine and Allison was a great edition. I find my tastes can shift from time to time and bourbon has variations barrel to barrel so with that thought in mind no worries that you put Buffalo Trace in last place. Maybe recording round one a day or two before recording round two would have given a more balanced outcome relative to your tastes. I do like Old Forester and Wild Turkey 101 but have never tried the Early Times, I'll have to give it a go. Agreed Four Roses has never raised my eyebrows but is still drinkable. I do like Buffalo Trace but find Eagle Rare more pleasant on the tongue. Thanks for the Bourbon brawl, well down!
Totally agree with Buffalo Trace being last. No shame it’s floral man you like what you like. I gotta try Early Times and hope it shows up in my area soon. Great video 👍
@Jeremy Siers I hadn't heard of Early Times and since you raved about it, I decided to pick up a bottle today and I really enjoy it! Thanks for the recommendation! Enjoy your videos bro!
I bought a bottle of BT and about halfway through i couldn’t drink it anymore. There was something I just didn’t like. I am going to be picking up a bottle of Early times this week. Can’t wait to try it out
It’s a brave man that checks his ego and does a blind tasting video for everyone to see. My whisky club does blind tastings from time to time and we are RUBBISH at them. Oh, and if Early Times was put into a fancy bottle it would get much higher ratings (IMO).
My favorite way to do blind tastings is to have my nephew pour me something from my collection, and first I try to guess Bourbon/Scotch/Whisky and then try to guess what brand (still pretty new to this). It was a bit challenging in the beginning because I only had like 10-20 bottles. Now it is VERY challenging because I have over 100. If you start off knowing what you're choosing from, you end up trying to figure out which is which instead of which you prefer I find.
People have different palates. No right or wrong. I love Brown-Forman products, but also love Buffalo Trace products. For me, Weller is fantastic, and I don't get any floral notes. I love Early Times BIB as well.
Bourbon Brawl should be it’s own mini series. High dollar challenge, certain brands, best wheated etc.
Hey, my name is on there. That’s cool.
I like it man!! Maybe that will be a thing. Also, appreciate they support brotha!!!

I remember old crow from teenage years. It was terrible.... so bad.
Old crow and wild turkey still mixes nice.

Got my 1st Buffalo Trace recently and was COMPLETELY underwhelmed. 4 Roses is thin - that's a perfect description.
The best thing about blind taste tests is that it shows how much we like what people tell us to like. When you lick it apart not knowing what it is you realize you like what you hate and vice versa.

I also don’t like buffalo trace, it’s not horrible but not good either. Has a slight rubbing alcohol taste throughout. Elijah Craig small batch is way better. I gotta try Early Times, other reviewers have picked it as best tasting in blind taste tests for value bourbons too!
Finally found Early Times and yep that beats out Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey 101 for me.
Jeremy. I will continue posting until you tell me HOW TO GET THIS ASHTRAY lol
Paddy's Irish Whiskey
I am also a brown Forman fan, both old forester 100 and early times bottled in bond are my go to's and wild turkey 101 is my no think drink.
Four roses tastes like chemically treated rose bathwater 😂
But anyway I’m more a whisky guy myself. Four roses I bough when I wanted to try bourbon and it’s scared me right off.
I remember drinking four roses for the first time and being blown away. I loved it! Somehow, the next time I got it, it tasted totally different to me. I still like it, but I wish it could be just like the first time I had it always.
I know it’s technically “budget,” but Buffalo Trace just stands so much taller to me
I agree with your choices….early times is a great budget whiskey and buffalo trace is too young for me.
It sounds like drunk may have gotten a little someone.
He's not as think as you drunk he is.
I agree with you 100% only I have not tried Early Times but the rest is spot on. I have always wondered what the big deal is with Buffalo Trace and Four Roses.
Jeremy: "fuck it up if one was a whiskey"
Me: I got bad news for you
You’re thinking Early Times isn’t a bourbon right? The Bottled in Bond version I have in this video actually is a bourbon. They normal Early Times is a Kentucky Whiskey. 😉👍🏻
@@JeremySiers I was implying they are ALL whiskey, they ARE all bourbons but they are all whiskies as well
Ahhhh, valid point kind sir! A few people had pointed out the Early Times wasn’t a bourbon so I thought that was it. 😉👍🏻
This very quickly became one of my favorite channels to watch
Much fun! Thoroughly enjoyed this video! Enjoy the back & forth with Allison! Hope you do similar more often.
Suggest doing the brawly without smoking the stick. It changes the flavors of the bourbon totally to me. Great attitude on video.
I love early times BIB! And in my area it is $20 for a liter! Best bourbon deal on the planet
Wives totally change the way we talk/act around our friends. Even if the friends are on the other side of a camera. Lol. Love it.
Enjoy your videos bro!
you have the best setup. it is clear, it is consistent, it is thoughful. well done.
Wow, I got 4 out 5. Not bad at all. Now I'm going to try Early Times.
Man all your videos are classics. Great review. Now it’s time for the budget cigar! CIGAR BRAWL BABY!!!
Right on!
Good stuff! I actually like Buffalo Trace. Try Eagle Rare, same distiller a bit more premium. I'm gonna have to try Early Times now though.
People have different palates. No right or wrong. I love Brown-Forman products, but also love Buffalo Trace products. For me, Weller is fantastic, and I don't get any floral notes. I love Early Times BIB as well.
Really enjoyed this! Agree this should be a mini series. So many options you could do.
Awesome video. Defiantly enjoyed this one. This needs to be a regular thing for sure.
