- Welcome to The Halo Files, a series on this channel devoted to fast-paced trivia about the modding, pre-release, and other barely-known facets of the Halo series. This installment focuses on Halo Reach's HIDDEN vehicle health regeneration system, where your vehicle will heal to specific values depending on its health.

Massive Ultra Elite jumpscare
I forgot the "scary alert" :(
@@TheVengefulVadam I mean, I don't think anyone expected an Ultraman reference today...

Just started making gaming vids and tryna make it come support me got halo clips and other kinds❤

To clarify on something, vehicles in Halo always have separate health values from drivers. You can shoot an unoccupied vehicle and it'll die. In Halos 2 and 3, however, if someone is in the driver seat of a vehicle, it won't blow up unless the DRIVER'S health goes to 0. This is not the case in CE, Reach, and the other Halo games, where the vehicle blows up when ITS health goes to 0.
Does a vehicle being heavily damaged in 2 or 3 make it die faster even if the driver has full health and shields?
@@MrBohijnope, it’s all dependent on the driver’s health. The vehicle can look like a pile of junk and it’ll still transfer the damage to the player the exact same.
@@TheVengefulVadameven in halo3?
I remember a lot of people saying having more vehicle health would reduce damage recieved to the driver.
I heard something similar with passengers reducing damage to the driver.
Unless it's a CE Warthog or Scorpion, those things were made out titanium nanotubes folded 1000 times by Sinoviet or something
@@Thomas.c4647You’re correct it does work like that in 3.
I always was so confused how much gunfire a flaming banshee could withstand when it would duck into cover. This explains so much
I think it's the Warthog in Reach you can actually audibly hear the vehicle beep at a fast frequency on its final damage threshold. When it's near 0%, it'll beep really fast, but when you don't take damage for a bit, you hear it slow down
Still learning about this game, amazing
Just started making gaming vids and tryna make it come support me got halo clips and other kinds❤
I think almost all the multiplayer vehicles have the same damage thresholds. Even the multiplayer phantom has an unfinished "damaged state" at 25% health. It's been possible to see this state all along too, since the phantom "animation device" on Boneyard is also a multiplayer phantom. We only discovered it recently when we discovered how to bypass seat restrictions and pilot the phantom in multiplayer without external modding
Some have a 20% health threshold instead of 25%.
That hud mod wpuld be op in multiplayer provably why the game hides it from us
As if the Banshee wasn't OP OP OP enough 💀
@@TheVengefulVadam yeah exactly a good pilot pretty much needs a dedicated spartan laser to take out
No wonder why it felt like some slippery bastard could stay in a banshee for half the game despite looking almost destroyed half the time. Conveniently about as long to fully recharge your shields too.
@@alexanderrobins7497I can confirm I was one of those pilots that knew about this early on in Reach's release and exploited it as often as I could.
"...It REACHed ..." Ah yes ... I see what you did there...
You could say he was REACHing for puns
@danteprokrustrs4795 @@miceltusav88 That's one HALOva joke😂
What I don’t like about reach is that it has both systems
Both the ce covenant seperate from player vehicle health
And halo 2-3 player health is tied to the vehicle itself being hit
I’m fine with both systems individually but together it’s just stupid
That Reach Multiplayer Beta Trailer Music ......
*DEEP BREATH* MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMHMHHHHHHHHHHHHHMHMHMHMHMH
This has been known to seasoned and competitive players for ages but still cool to see someone going in & giving us specific data on those damage thresholds
I always knew this was a mechanic, would take my vehicle out of harm to regenerate my shields, noticed the vehicles seemed to get healed somewhat as well
Please, stop jumpscaring me with the sangheili
I'm gunna be honest, if you didn't know about this you didn't spend nearly enough time messing around in forge with vehicles.
It’s not visually communicated to the player, similar to H2 and H3 player health. You’d be surprised how many people don’t know about both of these things.
Vadam out here going ham with all these jumpscares lately.
I love Halo files series!
Damn another similarity between the Best two Halo Games of All Time(Halo CE&Reach) thx!
Loved you using the beta trailer music. What a throwback
Thie explains how i saved the troop warthog on the oni base misson. I forgot how, but im pretty sure i just stunned it long enough to keep the wraiths away from them
So you’re saying it would be super easy to mod in a repair kit working off the med kit code?
Doing that damn saber mission on legendary was truly hell for me, it was harder than any other mission ive done across all of halo on legendary
Gonna watch this 200 more times to help with algorithm 👍
Do you know if the vehicles had this in the Reach beta? I remember vehicles being death traps at health in the beta and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the reason why.
The Reach Beta vehicles did have this, but once they got to their last damage threshold, they started to take burn damage for a few seconds, then explode on their own. This was cut from the final game, and a similar system was brought back into Halo Infinite's vehicles.
@@TheVengefulVadam Oh, so that's what it was, thanks!
Big elite reminded me of the glitch you could do on Halo 2 Burial Mounds map 😢

Rightly dividing is key to unlocking the Bible. Paul is our apostle and says to follow him. So study all 14 of the books of Paul. Anything that doesn’t agree with Paul is not for you to take. Any questions ask me below.
So that's why halo infinite's vehicles feel like wet tissue paper. They probably don't heal on top of having less health.
I. WAS. RIGHT! I always knew something like this was out there, but couldn't ever test it properly.
343i in lore excuse Nano Machines.... Inside master chief's suit.
In Halo 4 has the same regen, i was driving a Mantis and it was on fire but some time later the fire stop
pretty sure it's in Infinite too so probably never left. also technically speaking Halo 4 is mainly a reskin of Reach with loadouts and UI changes
Just started making gaming vids and tryna make it come support me got halo clips and other kinds❤
It would have been really cool if they had made this feature exclusive to the Covenant vehicles. Adding a whole other layer of technical complexity to their hovercraft.
Hingehead jumpscare was not appreciated. (Keepup the good work man!)
Reach really did have the best vehicles. Minus how abusable the banshee flip controls were in particular. Just a bit overtuned
They either got rid of these entirely in Infinite or severely nerfed the regen because the number of times my perfect health ghost pops its engine covers because of 1 plasma pistol round after being out of combat for 5 minutes is ridiculous
You can see this in some modded invasion modes in the custom browser where vehicles are an objective for the attackers to destroy. If they don't take damage for a while they heal up to the damage threshold
Noticed this thanks to modded invasion lobbies
I always felt there was something like this going on.
kinda cool to know tbf. im not really a fan of reach, i prefer halo 1 and halo 3 and halo infinate but its cool to see the unique differences between the games still.
Oh no the UNSC ain't winning the fight now The covenant have kaiju's 💀
In some invasion cgb modes where vehicled are objegt8ves you can see this
Fun fact: vehicles in destiny and destiny 2 have this property as well
Yeah this was well apparent to anyone who played invasion a lot thanks to dmr sniping those crazy banshee players
Halo files soundns like bateria that throve in salty conditions known as halophiles
I always preferred vehicles in 2, 3, and ODST, but at least CE and Reach have leeway by either showing the health or the damage threshold. It didn’t help Infinite that they put the doomsday mechanic on top of the sustained damage (shooting off entire wheels) mechanic. I haven’t played Infinite in like 2 years, and part of that is how radically different the sandbox has become due to poorly managing new features. These little details add up.
That'd be neat if I could use it. Most Reach vehicles are made of tissue & hope.
Bungie also carried this feature over into destiny! noticing all these little details that bungie kept around in their next game is fun
That explains so many banshees I've seen on fire with a 25 ks.
I feel like I've seen some flames on damaged vehicles go out due to said partial health regen.
After all of these years. I had no idea.
Someone at bungie really thought this was going to be a good idea for some reason?
I tested this and was gonna make a Reddit post a month ago on exactly this!
Wait why did I open UA-cam again?
Biggest downgrade to Halo's sandbox
I never knew this in the 14 years ive played the game
I wish they left that in the HUD.
I used to explain this to people on why a banshee that’s on fire could technically take infinite sniper shots. As long as it’s only a single sniper shot and ZERO damage from something else like a DMR, when your shields recharge, you can tank another, as long as your shields are recharged. I’ve been hackusated a lot because people hadn’t known this.
I just found your channel man. 👍
Great episode Vadam!
I love this series you're making, I wonder if it's possible you'll ever turn some of these shorts into full-length, I'm particularly interested in the weapons scare value
yes I noticed that in some mcc invasion maps
VEHICLES HAVE REGENNING HEALTH WTF
How many times can I see this short
That’s so cool
fire 🔥
Reach is the best halo ---->
He reached for this video
Why tf did that scare me
Ahhhh ok I did not know this
That's a big elite
Oh so that's why the fire goes out on vehicles sometimes
REACHed lol
Does that mod work for multiplayer // does this apply to multiplayer, for the banshee values.
The HUD mod I did can work for multiplayer but not for personal use in matchmaking, standard custom games, or the CGB. It'd have to be its own mod on Workshop and everyone else in the game would have to have it. The health system does apply to MP, though.
What's the song playin in the background?
The Both Ways remix from the Reach soundtrack.
people didn’t know this??
It’s not like it’s communicated to the player at all. Some people don’t know H2 and H3 have player health regeneration.
So thats why its called halo reach
what song is this
