    The Amiga version of this licensed Out Run game for home computers isn't half bad, with decent artwork making it easy on the eye and plenty of stages to keep you occupied.
    Unfortunately, it would have been better if the agent/police car appearances weren't quite so frequent. Get both of them on-screen and you'll have a pretty tough time evading them without a boost or two.
    The issue with the car driving stages is the vehicle position on the road makes it far too difficult to see other vehicles, or the ability to spot power-ups (not that driving over them is any guarantee you'll collect them).

    Love this game because it's a European tour. Would love to see a remake in 3D.

    Could you imagine a modern remake of this game? I like to imagine a 32-bit remake of this would be Ray Tracers mixed with Jet Rider(Moto).

    Crazy that the Master System version has music + sound FX but not the Amiga version. And the frame rate seemed better on Master System too. I know that there's also a C64 version but I barely checked that one other than it having a funky and hilarious title theme.
    Wonder how they got the OutRun license for this game, BTW! edit: guess Probe Software ported an OutRun game prior to this (Turbo OutRun?) on western computers and then went on an agreement with Sega in order to reuse the license for a whole new game just like US Gold did with Strider.

      @@besotoxicomusic Monkey Island 2, Cruise for a Corpse, Ultima series, Epic, Stunt Car Racer... Amiga does what Mega drive don't. Just a question of specificities... and skill. Have you played The Killing Game Show ? One of the best arcade game developed for Amiga. On Megadrive, it lacks lot of visual effects, music is awful and some levels are missing. Question of skill. Amiga lacks some animation specifications for games but with skill all is possible. If only Magnetic Fields worked on Out Run license...

    • @ryzmaker11

      @@iXien all of those games could be done on mega drive
      then killing game show was just a cheap port on mega drive YET it has several improvements cvompared to amiga version (better frame rate, music + sound FX..) and the same dev team later did wiz 'n liz and this game turned out significantlty better on mega drive than amiga
      and then there are a lot of mega drive games that the amiga could not handle (sonic 2, streets of rage 2, alien soldier, batman & robin...)
      it's a matter of skill but ALSO technical capabilities of the hardwares

    • @iXien
      @iXien 3 роки тому +4

      @@ryzmaker11 Interesting that you think Megadrive can handle Point n click games with plain screen bitmap GFX. I would be curious to see how to store Cruise for a Corpse on a cartridge and load the elements with only 64kb RAM. I would be curious to see Epic on Megadrive too. Megadrive is superior to Amiga on a lot of points, ok, but there are some limits due to low storage, low RAM and tiny sound specifications when the idea is to load and display big data.
      I really like Megadrive, I'm not glorifying Amiga but I'm a little tired by the glorification of a console system that had its own limits if you tried to make something different than tile based worlds with chipsound musics and SFX. 3D games are not usual on Megadrive, displaying plain screen pictures seems to be a pain and you know my opinion about the sound.
      It's a question of technical specifications ? Take again the example of Out run Europa. When you see Lotus series, Crazy Cars 3 or Jaguar XJ 220, can you seriously consider that Amiga couldn't do far better ? Amiga was less powerful on some aspects but could shine like Megadrive on a lot of crap conversions if they would be made with more time and skill.
      That's not true that all that Amiga make, Megadrive can do better, because of a lot of technical differences, not only a question of power. A lot of Amiga games couldn't be handle by the Megadrive, but of course we are not talking here about action games using tiles.
      And sorry but even with SFX and smooth scrolling, Killing Game Show is awful on Megadrive and I invite everyone to play it on Amiga, even on Atari ST but not on Megadrive. Question of time and skill once again but this time Megadrive was the victim 😉.

    Good playing! It's a bit like an arcade game. Nice graphics, outstanding music, cool animations, seems like the control is ok. But there are no sound effects, the water races are not that enjoyable in my opinion. There are better racers but It worth playing through once at least if only because of the good music. It's similar to Chris Hülsbeck's music, but the composer were the Krisalis and Matt Furniss.

    • @AL82RetrogamingLongplays
      @AL82RetrogamingLongplays  4 роки тому +7

      It could, but it had 4 channels for audio - it means if you wanted effects AND music you had to share channels. Listen to some games that use both and you lose the music in one channel while an effect is playing, which detracts from the music - to get round the issue developers would give players the option of FX or music.
      Some games, like Turrican II, have FX and music, although Turrican uses a proprietary sound engine to increase the number of channels 🙂

      @@miked4377 The sound system designed for the Amiga is actually kind of revolutionnary for 1985 and unique. It is like a mini sampler with 4 voices. Arcade games at that time had more voices but FM Synthesis sound in the best case with one voice for digitized sound. In 1985, you had 3 synth voices with SID processor on the c64, 3 synth voices with Yamaha processor inherited from ealier arcade games (+one digitized sound channel) on the Atari ST and the Amstrad CPC. To sum up things, Amiga had the best sound system in the 80's for a personal computer. PC would be better at the beginning of the 90's.
