His guitar doesn't do the silent scream of watch me dance with fancy pedals and moving in circles. The very fact he plays so efficiently, and can just stand there and make you watch his fingers says it all. He's not all rythmn, he's skill, mastery, and age, all rolled into one. You don't get a better guitarist.
I have been listening to this version of Telegraph Road for almost 20 years and I must say that I can hardly find a better piece of guitar solo on UA-cam
Mark Knopfler....life long and prosper.... 🖖 you cant imagine how much your songs mean to your fans. No matter how sad you are, no matter how hard the life may hit you.... just listen to MK's solo as loud as you possibly can, and the world is okay again.
Knopfler is in a very small, very elite group of guitarists....... and just like fine wine, gets better and smoother with age. Love how he just gets on stage and plays, no gimmicks, no bullshit, just him plying his craft. A pure joy to watch and listen too.
Marks way of playing goes straight into my heart. He delivers each note with a certain thump that I haven't heard from any other guitarist. He is truly one of a kind...
There is many guitarists in the world who have either 'speed' or 'feeling', but only handful of those like Mr. Knopfler who has marvellous combination of both - Big Thanks to Mr. Knopfler who inspired so many young people! Our ears will always tell the truth to the brain - that's what matters - and as someone already commented - you cannot reproduce those tones he played :)! NO, you can't! MARK, RESPECT! :)
Is it really important to decide on "who's the best"? Isn't it enough to enjoy the music? There are more than enough immensely talented musicians available and there's really no need to senseless bickering on who's better than the other, imho. I'm really getting tired of people claiming to know who's the best.
Possibly the hardest guitarist to imitate. Even when he's playing something that isn't very technically demanding, there's so much fine detail in the way he plays it, you can be theoretically playing the same thing note for note, but so much is lost.
Haha, yeah man that is so true! All those morons saying al the time that Mark isn`t technically that good. Well, how come no one can re-produce his sound so good then? Coz this man is a fucking GENIUS thats why! So yes, he is technically that damn good!
@PutItAway: Spot on mate and so true, so absolutely true! I`v seen a lot of MK copycats and wannabe`s and see them painful struggling haha. No one comes near this true master!
This gentlemen is a true master of his art.. His voice, his guitar are an extension of himself, his emotions and life experiences which are expressed so vividly in his performances... just watched Mark Knopfler concert at the Atrium 2012 and it took my breath away! It is on UA-cam.
"In concert, some guitarists make a huge spectacle of emotion, posturing and prancing as if possessed. Backstage, however, you discover it's an act, part of the show. Mere choreography. Knopfler, on the other hand, plays it cool onstage. Guitar against cocked hip, he lets his nimble fingers express the passion that smolders deep within. When the crowds are gone, the commitment remains. He's the genuine article, a player consumed by a love for music" -Andy Widders-Ellis, Guitar Player magazine.
This is the last 1/3rd of the song, obviously highlighting Mark's guitar solo. The entire song takes about 15 minutes. It is one of the best rockin' songs I have ever heard. It always gets me rockin', boppin', shakin' and rollin'! Awesome talent does Mr. Knopfler have!
I've been a fan since the first time I heard skate away. Have watched the natural progression of his life and how it's affected his music. Stood in silent appreciation everytime something new came out. I gotta say, he just keeps getting better. There are very few people who can make you feel an emotional attachment to a song like he can, and he does it everytime. All I can say is thank you. Glad that we lived in the same time period. His music is as close to perfect as music can be.
+doug fandel Underrated??? -Order of the British Empire -4 Grammy's -Edison Award -Steiger Award -Ivor Novello Price -Three honorary Doctor Titles in music etc etc etc... :D

As a young man, I bought "Love Over Gold" on cassette when it first came out. I'd listen to the "Telegraph Road" solo while cruising down a highway late at night. It may sound a little odd, but it just "seemed right" for lack of a better description. Knopfler doesn't get his due when great guitarists are discussed. This is pure artistry genius at work.
Mark Knopfler ! Need I say more. Prisitine audio recording quality ! On the Sony MDR-V6, this sounds unexplainably good. If you got the V6's or any other phones upward on quality, you'll love this recording ! Amen !
I think they are sparkng off each other to be honest. The only snag s you know you wont get any thong else done for the next two hours.... you just have to listen the rest of the album.
just pure magic,, the way he plays , a true master at guitar!! just watch his fingers move at an amazing speed but never missing a note !! a modern day mozart.God Bless him

Saw Mark on Sept. 11, 2019 in Salt Lake City, UT. Still as good as ever. Never gets old. Best song writer/guitarist ever. Can't wait for his next trip to the US.
I'd be honored if some Dire Straits fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performance of ON EVERY STREET on my YT channel in tribute to the genius songwriting of Mark Knopfler. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital enhancements. Thanks and RESPECT to the legends.
B string 13th fret + G string 12th, with a bit of gain. It then becomes this combo followed in quick succession (four times) by Bstring 13th + D string 15th
Was lucky enough to see the incredible Mark Knopfler on this very 2005 tour outdoors at the Fraze Pavilion in Kettering, Ohio on a beautiful summer night. All I can say is Telegraph Road was just out of this world --- I have no words to describe the power and soul of this song Live. Danny Cummings was with him, as were Guy Fletcher and Glenn Worf. This song along with Brothers in Arms and Song for Sonny were simply phenomenal. As a side note, about 1 month later and just by chance, I ended up on the real Telegraph Road --- it is in Michigan up near Detroit.
My favorite video of Mark and this song. Love watching the drummer get into it as the music goes along. What I wouldn't have given to have been there for this performance!!! One of my two favorite guitarists ever.
Mr. Cummings does a great job backthere indeed. Mark has always great musiciens around him. The thing is, they get even better by playing for him as well :D
Mark is the ONLY guitarist that adds an extra dimension, that of color. He touches all your senses...No one can do it as well or as effectively. Long live Mark!
Think I listen to this 10 times a day, imo his best live solo, so musical, melodic sheer mastery, I almost can't go back to the recorded version. But so glad this exists, this moment in time.
I know why 96 people disliked it. Some parts weren't loud enough or clear enough for them to learn it. Why else would you dislike the greatest guitar god ever born. MK's the man.

Same here
The ONLY musician that plays in colors...adding another dimension. No one else comes close, no one, period.
Wrong
agreed
Mark Knopfler is one of the few that could keep the listener entertained for a full 5 minutes with a guitar solo. Keep going!
10 min, 15 minutes , never the same only similar.
Mark Knopfler....life long and prosper.... 🖖 you cant imagine how much your songs mean to your fans.

There is no better guitarist, and no one like Knopfler that can stir your heart and soul in seconds, and fill you to the brim of enjoyment.
Mark Knopfler is the only guitarist that can create songs that can put pictures in my head. A true genius.
Mark Knopfler is in a class of his own, no one can touch him. A musical genius and a Guitar God beyond all questionable doubt.
Do you like Mark Knopfler
He is right though, and a top bloke...... For a Geordie lol!
He is a genius on Guitar & put an orchestra with him.& you get the most amazing classical sound ❤ that take you beyond pleasure 🙏
Musician par excellence 👏👏👏🙂
I could when I could play and wasn't terminal. I ended up out playing all my heroes.
live longer Mark Knopfler!! the world needs your music. I can't even explain how much I enjoy this solo.
Telegraph Road is easily one of, if not their most underrated songs. Beautiful performance
And it is one of their best, if not THE best song! An absolute masterpiece in every sense!
Absolutely amazing guitar player. Him and David Gilmore are in my mind the two best ever.
And Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac. Top tier picker.
Mark's simply the greatest most talented guitarist to walk the earth! So glad he was around in my time!
Marks way of playing goes straight into my heart. He delivers each note with a certain thump that I haven't heard from any other guitarist. He is truly one of a kind...

By far the best guitar player on the planet. He makes it effortless... The only musician who plays in colors and many dimensions... out of this world.
+quovadis1952 Him, and David Gilmour
+Ola Uteligger And Pat Metheny
+quovadis1952 your opinion,of course-Try listening to David Gilmour sometime, with or without Pink Floyd.

Everybody has his own best player/musician, there cant be a discussion , its art not sport.
One of the tastiest live riffs EVER recorded. Still get goosebumps after years.
What's your problem moron????? He's a brilliant guitar player and even Clapton agrees he's the best!!!!
I believe that you misunderstood him.
Jack Long: I even watch it every day and every time....goose bumps all over! It`s just INfukkingCREDIBLE!
great capture .... saw him live.... BOOM
Simply magic!!! Pure genius Mr. knopfer!!! I still get chills every time I hear this amazing solo!!!🎸
Mark is brilliant, as always I should say, but don't forget the drummer!!
Danny Cummings
One of the best guitar players I've ever seen and I'm old and been around music all my life he is an amazing guitar player
All his energy goes into the guitar, the music, And not into nice smiles to the camera /audience.
A pure music show and nothing else ,I love that
atmosphere Adr That sums up the great Mark Knopfler. Excellent comment.
Totally agree mate! Mark is a real musician, not a showman, a musician. Those are much harder to find these days.
