  • Pruning Mahonia revisited. In today's video we are revisiting some Mahonia shrubs that I pruned 2 months ago. Before pruning they had several issues that needed corrective pruning to: 1) re-shape them and control height, 2) remove over-vigorous branches, 3) stimulate growth from bottom of shrub to eliminate "legginess" 4) open up the centre of the shrub to let light and air circulate. As usual Mahonia always responds and in just 2 months there is a load of new growth below and the shrub now has layers which is just the way I like it. What I thought would take 2 growing seasons to recover, has only taken one - even less, just 2 months - what a shrub!!!
I end the video with a walk around in the rain which continued into the night with gale force winds. That is mountain living for you. Weather can be extreme but non the less quite beautiful. I was glad to get back inside to my log fire though!!!
