How to prune Mahonias

I have a 10 - 12 ft tall Mahonia. It's very leggy. How far down can I take it? Could I effectively coppice for example? Thank you....

You can coppice them, may be worth putting some fleece over if there are frosts about. Try and find nodes to cut back to if possible, cheers Mike

Hi Al, you can feed them with Vitax Q4 and then mulch, to add some nutrients back, cheers Mike

Can you plant the Mahonia under a bird feeder because I heard that birds love the seeds and stuff

Hi Judy, that is correct it gives them an energy boost. You can also touch the centre female stigma part of the flower and the male stamen close on it. The latter doesn't always work, but it is great when it does, cheers Mike
